Hey all! I will be spending a week in Boston and on Cape Cod in mid October.
Any suggestions? We are staying on Cape Cod and plan to visit Battleship Cove, Mystic and New England Aquariums, the zoo in Providence RI and the King Richard’s Faire (Ren Fest). Lots of other places are on my list like Salem Witch Museum and a whale watching cruise or two…..
I plan on eating lots of clams, lobsters and clam chowder..
Any advice would be appreciated, any interesting things to do…we are staying in Hyannis.
Thanks, Kaya
I know there are a lot of Cat owners on the forum. I have an older (6? 7? year old) medium haired, feral female cat that hates almost every other creature in my house. She gets along with the other 2 cats when I am home to supervise.
Lately she hasn’t been grooming herself, at all…she is healthy, eats well, seeks affection from me, but I noticed she had matted hair in spots.
So I started brushing and discovered a lot of mats under her legs. Of course this process of me grooming her out took me a week of brushing, scissoring and at the end a bath, which almost left me without eyes. I have various wounds…
Even after the bath, I had to brush her dry, because she wouldn’t do any self grooming. The whole ordeal has been unpleasant to say the least, she hates being brushed and bites, claws, wails…..
No groomer will even try with this cat.
My big question is why would a cat refuse to groom itself? My other cats are immaculate.
She has always been a frumpy, angry cat…but no one would take her and she would be put down at a shelter. But she seems happy and healthy (in her own way) with me. She likes being petted by me…
Anyone who has advice, it would be appreciated…she has been checked by my vet…and she is in good health.
Just a side note: I ended up with her after she was hit by a truck, trailer and myself on a local highway. Her only injury was a broken tooth. SO I felt we owed her a home. She has her own room away from other pets when I am not home.
Here is a picture of mine which is emerald colored, not the darker jade.

The internet has so much information that it is possible to have too much information.
After reading and getting more scared, I decided that vaccines had helped more children than could be imagined. My heart goes out to the families seeing their child’s light turn in instead of out. I cannot imagine their lives.
There are many excellent books on the market that discuss pros and cons of vaccines. The BEST one is “What Every Parent Should know About Vaccines” by Paul Offit. I send or give this book to every person that I know who is expecting a baby. Including my sister. Another great source of info are any books that have the American Academy of Pediatrics approval on the cover.
Believe me, the AAP and the CDC are working every day to make sure that our vaccines and other drugs are safe. The internet is full of opinions, as a parent, you want facts! So make sure what you are reading is backed up by the AAP and CDC. Those two groups were established to protect the welfare of the people.
The American Academy of Pediatrics actually recommended the removal of Thimerisol from vaccines before the CDC recommended it.
The AAP is all about the welfare of children, without kids we wouldn’t have pediatricians. They are looking out for our children and they can be trusted!

It is one of my fears as a new mommy that Chloe might get Autism.
Don’t stress..vaccines are safe. I have practiced pediatrics for over 11 years and I have never seen an autistic patient that had a legitimate claim that vaccines caused the problem. Most children develop symptoms of autism at around 18 to 24 months. This is the age when they receive the MMR vaccine.
But, how does that explain that more male children are affected by autistic syndromes than females? Also, why would it only be the 2nd MMR that causes the problem? Kids get their first MMR at 1 year.
The CDC had vaccine companies remove Thimerisol (mercury) from vaccines as a preservative years ago.
Studies in the Carribean showed that children who ate cold water fish (tend to have high levels of mercury) could have learning disabilities, but not necessarily more autism, from mercury poisoning. The levels in the old vaccines were less than if an adult ate a few cans of tuna.
Autism is a very sad thing, but blaming vaccines that have prevented millions of deaths of children, and millions of cases of crippling polio and meningitis…well that is scary. If it were not for the vaccines, many children every year would die or be blind or deaf from HIB menningitis or crippled or dead from polio, or have birth defects from rubella.
Everyone has their opinion, but of you go to Africa and see children dying from preventable diseases…well, you would be a proponent of our vaccination program.
So get informed and go get the book “What every parent should know about vaccines” by Paul Offit it tells parents the facts about vaccines and I recommend it for EVERY PARENT!

Amen! My cars are all 6 speeds and I think it makes you pay attention when you are having to shift.
I rarely use a cell while driving, because I have to concentrate on driving.
Maybe we should go back to driving standard tranny cars and people and teens would actually have to “work at driving”
It isn’t just cells, texting…but also make up application, eating, yelling at the kids, and all sorts of things.
I road and drag race and the best thing you can do for your teen driver, is to send them to a defensive driving or performance driving school. I can tell you, my experience with this has made me accident free for over 7 years (knock on wood).
Here is the link to Skip Barber, but there are many others and you can email me at eschete344@bellsouth.net if you have a teenager and want recommendations on schools. I have done a Skip Barber school and a Viper Days school. They teach you how to control your car and you learn what it is like to loose control. I spun my brand new Dodge Viper into the mud. It really opened my eyes and made me a better driver. You can also get a discount on your auto insurance if you participate in these schools.

So adorable. I have a merle Dachshund. Is the merle gene dominant in Aussies? I am guessing so since you have 3 merle pups.
Just gorgeous! The merles are my favorites!
Congrats! Don’t you just love that puppy breath?

WINDSTONE EDITIONS PINK COPPER PEARL OLD WARRIOR ‘GOOF-UP’ EDITION #3
I didn’t know what to do with this small batch of Old Warriors, so here is a new category: This is a new dragon edition called a “Goof-up Edition.”
This dragon is perfect except that his eyes are weird. He has a wall-eyed expression because I was experimenting with ways to set some very thin straw colored eyes into the very deep eye sockets of the old warrior sculpt. I tried to place them out towards the lids by filling the sockets with epoxy putty and setting the eyes against that, but this left an odd gap around the inside corners. So then, I tried filling that with white glue… anyway, the results are what you see here.
We have 10 of these guys that are all pretty much identical to each other, and all the same color. This dragon was originally white. I often do test paints over painted pieces that aren’t good. The normal pearl white color of this dragon has been added to with an interesting mix of gold, copper and violet paint on his wings and other points. This “light copper mauve” color was so pretty I had the rest of these goof-up White Warriors painted this way too. He measures approximately 7-1/2″ tall and 11″ long.
Kyrin wrote:Well I finally decided to watch it, man it is like a train wreck, you can’t help but look. But what a depressing story. I didn’t finish it, I saw where it was going and just couldn’t see the rest.
I really like Heath Ledger, but this was one of his movies that I just didn’t care for, and it wasn’t the subject. The movie was kinda disjointed, a lot of time jumps, and the relationships on all counts just didn’t seem believable.
I stopped the film at the point where Jack came to visit and the two went camping. I predict that if I had kept watching Ennis would have come home to an empty house, since his wife saw him kissing Jack on the porch.
Anyway, I figured it would just go downhill from there.
I like happy movies, with happy endings and I just didn’t see this film going anywhere near that.
Anyone else see this movie?
Kyrin
I watched the whole thing and it was majorly depressing! You did the right thing…I hate sad novies! Kaya
Thanks Travistie…
I don’t understand why he is a goof up. The eyes look great! I know Melody had trouble with the eyes, but mine is simply gorgeous!
Thanks Melody! I think you should sell all your “goof ups”….
He is gorgeous and I don’t feel like I got a goof up!
