This is a really great tutorial post. Thank you so much for showing us. I love seeing the progress pictures. 😀
Here is a thought, has anyone ever painted a griffin to look like a macaw?
Alicorns is the term I have always heard applied to them as well.
O.K., speaking as a sappy sentimentalist I vote with the keep your first one crowd. There is nothing in this world so beautiful as a thing that motivates us. And just think about the campfire stories that can be made with him. Try sending him to each of your relatives and insist they take a picture with him. Then send him somewhere else. I for one feel much more comfortable with more dragons in the world. I also believe that idea is contingent on you liking the dragon enough to keep him. You should surround yourself with things that make you happy. I am willing to bet that there is a really nifty future version of this guy waiting to meet the dragon that started it all. I could be wrong but what would it really hurt?
O.K., for the real gold, yes I want to do that. I can think of no more deserving pieces than these dragons. I will have to budget for the stuff but I expect that I will be back to take you up on those lessons. And I will be reading here if you want to get a jump start on me. I have some pens on order but its the real gold that appeals to me, maybe for a personal piece.
So where is the best place to get those pens? or the real gold filigree? I have an idea for what I am going to term a thunder lizard. I do not believe that I have seen anyone else use it the way I plan too.
O.K. something else I am not quite clear on…the subject of gold filigree or leafing or whatever it is called. How does the gold get on these sculptures? Is it real gold? What if I wanted to use some on my sculptures, is it allowed? Or does that fall under the copyrite issue? Thanks for the clarification.
OMG how cute are those?!?
I would be in on either one. I love both very much. As evidence I got these guys…

I really want a Flion too, no lie! I think he would fit in very nicely over here.
I love both of these pieces and I also loved getting a look at your studio. Those poor broken pieces! Your collection is mighty and I just love the paint job on both pieces you put up. I hope you will put up more pics if you get more done.
Those are both very nice. 😀
O.K., these guys are so cute!

And they are so MINE!!!! Mwahahahaha! 😆 😆
I love these guys. Especially my little bad boy there!Cool, thanks everyone. I know what you mean about cat hair. I have two long hairs of my own. They are busily contributing to a third dust cat as we speak. I am told they will be done some time around next week. Something about the triumvirate feeling the void etc…since our third past away at a ripe old age of 18 last week. Kinda disconcerting all the cat chanting and carrying on and such. 😆
I am really looking forward to seeing this one finished. I love what I see so far.
My eye site is not what it used to be. I took out a magnifying glass to see if I could tell which it was. I see the eye sockets are painted but that is on the inside. I couldn’t tell that way so I came up with another idea. I ran my fingernail VERY gently over the spot and my nail catches on those spots so I am leaning toward those being cracks. So now the obvious questions. Does it matter? Will the paint cover it? Would a collector care?
