I lied! Here is this week’s sneak peek. Something that was parked at my painting booth a week or so ago since we are on a spectrals theme…

    Red flame rising spectrals!

And yeah, the timing about the pictures suck. But I don’t get home from work and dinner until late.

Hey guys! John and Melody gave me permission to start up a little “sneak peek” thread for you guys here at the forum!

Here’s the deal… On friday, once a week (or biweekly if things get crazy, or if we are boring) I will post a “sneak peek” suprise picture of something we are making here at the factory! I have my camera with me today, so I am going to snap a picture of something that’s going to be released soon, and post it for you later tonight between 10 and 11 PST (provided my internet connection cooperates).

    Stay tuned!

Come and get ’em! You know you want them!

I don’t want to look at these anymore. They look like a unicorn threw up on them. Buy them as quickly as possible!

dark zorse, I didn’t know you worked for Windstone too! That’s AMAZING! Congrats!!! When did that happen?

Just after thanksgiving…? Thereabouts? I interviewed the day before my birthday. Then for some odd reason, they decided to hire me (Still can’t figure that one out).

And yes, I am a “dark zorse” artist. 😀 Just like a dark horse, but full of stripey goodness!

And I hesitate about doing the PYO swap, if only because of the way things are down here. I could be shuffled to oregon at a moment’s notice, and that means I’d have to put all my artstuff away for months before I get to unpack it again. That wouldn’t be fair to the recipient of my piece. I figure that if I’m doing ebay stuff, it won’t matter if it gets put off for a month or two if push comes to shove.

I’m also not to sell PYOs I buy and paint on my own time, under my own name (not Windstone’s). I was just curious since you are going to be the new lead painter- even though you may not advertise them as ‘painted by Windstone artist’ everyone here knows you are a Windstone painter, and most the Windstone buyer base is here in the forum. Please don’t take offense! I was just curious.

No offense taken whatsoever. I was just pointing out that you are a well known, respected artist. No one knows who the hell I am. 😛

Are you allowed to? o_O I’m not.

    You have a couple things I don’t.

You are painting production pieces. Those belong to windstone, not any of us painters, no matter how hard we wish. PYOs can be painted by anyone as far as I know so long as they are purchased. (I may be wrong. If I am, John will correct me.) And there are rules to me painting them. I may not use airbrushes, and I have to completely handpaint everything, not be on Windstone’s time, and make damn sure anything I paint does not look like anything that’s rolling off the windstone line be it a special edition, limited edition, or production piece. And – probably the biggest one of all – I may *not* sell under the Windstone name. My pieces will not be sold through windstone, and will not have that label connection to them. In short – it means I’m a “dark horse” artist, and not connected to windstone other than that I painted a PYO by them.

You are one of three OOAK artists. Your work is known, you have a reputation, and people buy it (You mean you have time to do extra pieces?). Additionally, you are selling though Windstone – getting that label name, and your name is connected to the company as an artist. I don’t have the reputation, or the distinction of being a OOAK artist. I am hoping (praying) to get good enough so I can be the fourth OOAK artist since I’m getting pointers and lessons from both Melody and Olympia. I suspect if I make that prestegious level, then I will not be allowed to do so either.

I have one outstanding commission that is going to get done before I try this.

With some of the new skills I’ve acquired here at the factory, I was thinking about buying a few PYOs, handpainting them myself, and ebaying them. But I’ve been discouraged from watching other PYO auctions on ebay, and watching them tank. So… dumb question here. To those of you who paint them, and to those of you who buy them… is it worth it?

    Hello Jess,

Welcome to the Windstone family! You must have seen one of my drafts, which means it probably was a reject or a “maybe later”. I am working on a new relationship piece draft but nobody has seen that one yet. I have a feeling you are talking about the one that could be interpreted as very promiscuous. In the decision making process the sculpture was rejected for that reason. I still like it and hope that one day I could fine tune it for production. Nice to hear that you like it too. I always thought that the market could handle that one.

That’s the exact one I refer to. Well, darn. I thought it was promiscuous, but in such a way that was pure elegance. Such a shame it has to sit back on a dark shelf. It is really pretty. 🙁

    John MUST be the Wizard!!
Right now I MUST be the Scarcrow because with all this OT I need a brain!!! (I LOVE 12 hour day paychecks but the actual work is CRAZY!! Plus a 3 hour commute round trip)

By this rationale, that makes me Toto (But much bigger! And with many more teeth). Buyer beware: My bite is worse than my bark!

Was it you I out bid? I’m sure you’ll get me in the future. If I ever have to part with it I’ll post it here first.

Well, one of the people you outbid. I think Ddvm was in on the last rush but $190 was way out of my price range. I wanted it because the friend she makes reference to about the pencil I am actually boarding with here in LA (He is a really, really nice guy.), and incidentally likes to do laundry. So it was kinda like art from both of them. But I’ll get a crack at another drawing. Someday. When there aren’t bills to pay. 😛

in reply to: Squeak for Lavender-Eyed Silvers! #655289

Easy there guys. The reason we don’t have lavender eyed silvers out yet is partially my fault. I’m researching a better lavender color than the one we currently have. The two purples we have currently are a very washed out, ugly almost white lavender, and a color close to liver. I’m hoping to get some true royal purple eyes instead of lavender, but the research is taking time. The reason we don’t want to release them in the white lavender is cause we want the eyes to match. No sense in releasing two variations of purple in the silvers when we already have blue.

Hi there Maya. I’m one of the new hires at the factory, and today I saw something of yours there I have my fingers crossed you will produce. I saw what looked like a clay rough of a candlelamp of a man and a woman. This piece moved me in a way I find hard to describe. I find it to be touching, tender, erotic, very tasteful, and so much more. I have my fingers (and toes!) crossed that you might consider producing this piece.

    Thanks!

All of the pieces I paint (with the exception of a few PYOs that I do as gifts/trades/to keep) go to Windstone’s eBay auctions.

It’s really cool what you’re doing with the glass eyes, dark_zorse. 🙂 Dichroic glass is fascinating, and I’ve always wanted to play with it (just have never had the means nor finances to) as some of the effects you get with the oxides is very similar to opals!

Yeah, dichroics can be *really* expensive, but fun to play with. The stuff I typically play with starts at around $1.50 a square inch, and goes up from there (both black-cack and clear). The opalescent qualities are one of the reasons I like playing with them. My better pieces can’t be distinguished from truly fine black opal specimens. But they are a real pain in the butt to get them to come to gem quality. Only about one in twenty gains that distinction, on a good day. If you want to play with them though, you’d do better trying to find a glass blowing/fuzing class at a studio near you (They are reasonably common) rather than trying to gather all the materials yourself. It would give you a better background with COEs and all that along with kiln access – that’s the biggest expense of the whole thing.

And for those of you wanting some better colors on the eyes, just sit tight. I’ve got some samples I’m going to be playing with shortly. True purple is the priority, but I will be experimenting with lots of other colors! Expect to see some of these (hopefully!) soon!

Too bad you can’t hang onto him until I’ve gotten some true purple eyes. Until then, I don’t suppose you could try the dichroic eyes?

I asked Melody to send me some (dichroic). I’m not sure about them in this size yet- I gotta see ’em in person before I form a solid opinion. They look weird in photos, but then again so do spectral eyes and I like those. 🙂

Eh. They are bizzare looking because of the dichroic type used, and how it is applied (Can’t say too much more there. That would be blowing my glass fuzing secrets). I’m going to do some fuze experiments and try for something much more subtle, realistic, and better colors. The ones currently are bold, but they are to be used if all you really want to concentrate on in a piece is the eyes. But who knows? They seem to look fine in the sun dragons, but they look awful in the gryphons.
