The shpping cost is so expensive to Japan it’s like half of what the auction went for, so we’ll see what the buyer says. Sometimes shipping expenses alone cause a backing out, which is yet again why I say ask about shipping prior to bidding, so people don’t get into arguments, especially me. We’ll see though. I should find out today or tomorrow since I sent out the invoice, but the bidder is trying for the dragon too and may not respond until I re-invoice him/her if he wins that one too.
Oh yeah, highly labor intensive! If I do others I will be doing them with a dremol and not solely with files. I have a bunch of stone left so I suppose I should. I need an excuse to get a dremol anyway…
Aw, my favorite dragon of yours too. I am surprised it didn’t go for a lot more; officially listed with Windstone to boot. I thought people liked dragons more than griffins anyway. I hope we het to see your other paint jobs soon, Nam.
Did Nam sell a PYO dragon on ebay and I missed it!? Which one did she sell?
And thanks for the compliments guys…I work very hard on these Windstones and it’s really a new form of art for me…but then I try just about everything to see what works best as an artists making a living on what I do. Now I’m even getting into origami. I’m crazy.I have been meaning to change that ship to US only. I do say I need to be informed if you are an outside the US bidder…mainly just for shipping reasons and this bidder did not contact me prior to the auction close. In truth I do ship everywhere…but the person has to be willing to take on the shipping charges, which can be crazy extreme to the point where you’re paying double…or certain countries, like Canada, can be hard to ship to because they may charge a duty fee. I’d rather not be bothered with that kind of worry. Nobnody has control over duty fees. I will say one good way to get around them is to specify everything as a birthday gift.
I am somewhat concerned though I suppose I have no reason to be yet…it’s just the name and location of the bidder has me slightly concerned. Seems odd to me. I still have to hear back on payment for the autumn wolf but email can be slow going sometimes. I will keep you all posted.
Well, you can always outbid me, lol. Hopefully by the end of the week I should have at least 7 cards to post on ebay myself. But I do like the white dragon…it’s an awesome dragon. You’ll have to do some baby and hatchling dragons too.
The airbrush would be good for a base coating and simple shading at least, and then do the fine details by hand. Of course, a good airbrush isn’t a cheap thing to buy and you’d almost have to make sure you would love to work with it to recover your investment. I for one am looking into it, but only because I’d also have alternate uses for it like for car painting or painting the gas tank of my hubby’s motorcycle. I worked with an airbrush once before and I did hate it…I need to do more research but there must be certain adjustments you can make to the nozzle to work on small sculpture. If not, the Windstones would be difficult to put a decent base coat on.
I saw your try just now Dragoness; sorry you didn’t win this, but I’ll PM you…
I do want to see what the winning bidder says and does though. With a name like that and a location of Japan, and rating of 6 (even though all positive) it has me slightly worrisome.
I am kinda sorry to see fellow forum members duking it out. I am pleased because I make a living doing my art, and this got a decent hourly rate…but you know we’re all friends here. Hard to not feel the rift between friendships and business though.
See, it’s little things like that that make it difficult to airbrush..gotta catch every little thing or you just wipe it out. Oh well, maybe the artist didn’t like the teeth and wanted to hide them.
Bummer! The artist airbrushed over the little snaggle teeth and didn’t mask them off while painting. I rather like that little addition to the sculpt.
I think it will sell, hands down. I don’t think price is an worry for professional model horse painters, especially since this is this artists’ first foray into Windstone, so it’s all-new subject matter…a far better sculpture in quality than say, Breyer Horse toys, and it’s got scales and a golden horn. For most people, the ki-rin is a whole new animal they have never seen before and is unique.
you’ve got the brown/black/blue hues down excellently well for the true look of a real animal fur.
I really thought people would prefer the spirit wolf compared to the autumn wolf, since the former is painted more in tune with a typical wolf color; but it looks like it’s the other way around. I personally prefer the autumn wolf because I like strong, bold colors and lots of it, especially reds and golden hues. I will certainly have to repaint another of these for myself when I create an entire PYO series in a single color line for myself. Thanks for bidding!
The thing about airbrush is that it can be faster…at least to apply a smooth base. But yes, it’s much thinner and in order to work with small, tight areas you almost have to mask out what you don’t want getting certain paint colors on…which is a big hastle and the main reason I haven’t invested yet in an airbrush. But, when both airbrush and hand detailing are applie you can get killer results. I’d have liked to have seen more hand-work on the Ki-Rin, especially seeing as how the tail scales are cool colors but the rest of the scales are just white. If the belly was the same as the tail scales I think it would look 10 times more awesome, but I understand the zebra thing and wanting to keep it white.
