Killer set! The addition of the red and orange to the yellow was perfect. Awesome collection!

You can read the description in this entry to find out more about the pieces, and scroll down for the large photo dump. I’ve chosen not to post as often under this thread but rather group my paint jobs at once for posting, to save more space for all your other folks wanting to share your paint jobs.

    Time for a Green One!

The close-up one is ok. The problem I’ve run into with natural light is one side gets brightly lit and sometimes overlit, while another gets too dark in shadow. While I personally never use flash, what I do do is stay further back from the window and, taking the advice of some forum members, using slightly folded paper plates on the not-as-lit side of the figure to help create more bounce light to fully illuminate the sculpt…and of course have either a light or dark backgrounf and prefferably a solid color. You’ll never photograph a 3D object with perfection and a lot of your detail won’t show in either case, or colors not as true, but I think you can get a better lit ki-rin. Give it a shot because pictures REALLY DO make or break an auction.

I’ve never run into this “old paint” syndrome most of you speak of. I have bought most of my paints, save for the Golden brand, at Hobby Lobby or Michaels. The Goldens I bought from Dick Blick. Although whenever I buy a paint I really eyeball it to make sure there’s no color separation or crakiness in the paint. Really good shakes have cleared up any problem’s I’ve run into. Maybe my stores stock better?

Still, any pics would be great. I am aiming to make unicorn draft horse-type ones.

It’s neat you’re giving the box and bracelet thing with the sculpt. I love the color of green to the brown mane you use. I’ve been debating making a brown and green KiRin but hasn’t settled on my colors yet. You did awesomely. I’d get better pics for the auction though.

I use Golden, Liquitex, Folk Art, and Delta Cermacoat for the most part. I also use Appel Barrel when I can’t find certain colors but the Appel Barrel takes a lot of layers to lay down and never looks quite as solid as the others.

I admit I rarely mix paints, especially with Goldens since I don’t want to waste that expensive paint and when I mix, I always mix way more than I need…better to have it left over than have to mix again and be sorry for it later.

I’m more of a buy-the color tube, type person.

    I’d like 2 or 3, 15, 16 or 17.

You know what Pheonix, post pics. anyway…I may see something I like. I am not used to seeing the new ponies…do they have better poses?

If I knew a lot of people on the forums were interested I’d have an MLP custom painted pony contest for a large dragon custom paint job win.

in reply to: Anyone Custom MLP? #537638

I already have all the ponies I need to customize…they are my old vintage ponies I played with when I was little, but thanks! And thanks for the link!

I went to WalMart and actually picked up a family box set of Classic Breyer model horses. I will try those before I buy a draft model.
I’m just going to give it a shot for kicks…nothing fancy like the stuff I’ve been reading. although the repositioning sounds like fun it aso sounds like it could go wrong real quick, so I’ll probably not mess with that and just paint what I got. I got a mom, dad, and foal.

I am looking for someone who knows how to do “the hair thing” with making custom MLPs. I want to paint a few I have but don’t want to deal with the hair plugs. All I need is someone who has access to the right type of hair necessary and who is willing to decapitate the ponies to redo their hair. If interested, let me know. I’ve been looking for someone willing to do this for quite some time and have just about givin up. I’m willing to Trade PYO services or $$.

Also, if you can strip the one rearing pony that has peach fuzzies all over it’s body, that would rock too!

    in reply to: Star's Koi Ki-Rin #537261

Lol, Star has got to be your number 1 patron. Wonder if she’ll release you soon so others can have a go at you Frozen. That is one heck of an awesome kin-rin…like all the rest you have done as of late…love it.

Ok Vantid, you can remove this thread if you need to…no more discussion. It just won’t be done.
