Well, on my monitor the colors do look really bright now that you mention it. Reminds me of those yellow and green highlighters. But I can’t really go by that too much because I know that this particular monitor’s color settings are a little off.

I’m actually in the Houston ‘metropolitan’ area. 😛 I am in Pasadena; and I live off of Fairmont Pkwy, close to Beltway 8. I say Houston because nobody has ever heard of Pasadena, TX. I say Pasadena and most think California. 😉

Yeah, Whippit! That is really close to what I had in my head too! 😀

I feel sorta silly for asking, but what is this “muse?” Sorry if the answer is very obvious, but I’m a bitty-bit new here…

Sweet. I’m not the only one who doesn’t know 😛

When I think of a muse I think of greek mythological woman (or women) that implants inspiration into the minds of artists of all genres.

But I feel like that’s not correct in this case. 😳

Wow, that is awesome. What a cool idea to make colors blend from dark to light like that on a dragon. The blending looks really, really good. 😀

    Yep, that’s true…

But I’m talking about the *non* PYO’s. Like the Hippogriff I painted. 😉

It also could be that the copyright page *does* say ‘no painting of non pyo’s’ and I’m just not reading it correctly. Or, basic copyright laws automatically protect from such things, and I am just ignorant. Yep, wouldn’t rule that out. 😳 I just thought repainting it and then saying it’s an original factory finish is illegal, but repainting it and making it known to be a custom and not a factory authorized paint job was not illegal. I’m probably wrong though. I know I have been mislead in some issues of copyright violations by being into the customizing of breyer horses for so long. I’m so sorry, I really didn’t mean to offend anyone or disrespect the company. 😳 🙁

in reply to: Anyone interested in a Repainted Hippogriff?-$Sold #541971

Yes, I am now aware of how windstone feels in regards to repainting the non PYOs. I painted the hippogriff before I joined the forums. When I said I’d take commissions I meant for the PYO’s. Sorry I didn’t clarify that. 😳

But on a side note, had I NOT joined the forums I would still not know that Windstone didn’t like you to repaint their non-PYO’s, and I probably would have listed the hippogriff to ebay, and if it would have sold for a price I was pleased with, I would have painted more of them and even tried painting other non PYO windstones. I think that maybe they should put that note in on their copyright information page when you visit their website. It really would not have occured to me that windstone would have a problem with people repainting their sculptures, but again, I’m used to Breyer. With them you can cut, twist, melt, resculpt, ect…

Now I’m sure had that happened someone from windstone would have sent me a message through eBay eventually, but by seeing that information on the forums such a situation was able to be prevented entirely..which is great! But I visited their website for a long time before I even realized they had a forum. Had I seen a message about the repainting issue on the website before I started the hippogriff I would not have painted it. Just sold it on ebay as is most likely. 😉

in reply to: Anyone interested in a Repainted Hippogriff?-$Sold #541968

Yeah, I really did not know how Windstone people would feel about messing with that all sacred eyeball. It is definantly a windstone trademark and when I see a windstone creature that eyeball is one of the first things to grab my attention. I honestly thought it would not go this well in regards to my repainting the eye. I felt sure I would recieve “BLASPHEMY!, SACRILIDGE! NEVER mess with a windstone eye!!” messages from everyone on that issue…

Repainting the eyes wasn’t something I planned on doing very often. I like the windstone eyes I just wasn’t keen on the red color for this hippogriff. I thought maybe orange would look cool though, wish I had those orange eyes in him.

Yeah Emerald it is cool if you scrape the paint off the eye. It does not offend me (though I know you weren’t asking, lol), and really, I feel like once a person pays for something they own it and can play dodgeball with it if they wanted to. On some changes to the paint I might ask you make note of it on the bottom of the piece, but usually I don’t care much even about that.

Oh and someone asked about commissions. I think it would be fun to take them so yeah I’d be up for it I think.

Gotta run to the PO now! Time for Emerald’s hippogriff to leave me and fly to her. 😛

Oh Wolfen-another person from the Houston area…awesome 😀

I love the fish idea!! I agree with the other folk about making the white marking over his back. The only thing that bugs me is the brownish color (what it looks like on my monitor) streak on his bottom leg. That fish in the photo has some brownish shading along his back. Maybe try blending some brown shading a wee bit in that area of the Ki-Rin…like along his back and slightly down the sides of the back. Ugh…it’s hard to explain what’s in my head.
    Anyway…I LUV that face!!

I say grab a Ki-Rin and start paintin’! It’s a cool idea with the fish thing!

BTW… LOVE your hippogryph! Why did you paint him? he’s AWESOME!!!! 😀

Thanks!! I just repainted him because he was given to me in trade credit by a horse customer of mine. She owed me money and offered me some windstone bodies. The Hippogriff didn’t have his red candlelamp anymore, and when he came in he had some scratches on the finish. No breaks though. I’ve got two unicorn bodies too but I was thinking I may just repaint them and keep them to show in the fantasy classes at the live shows in my region. I dunno, I haven’t really decided yet what to do with them. 😉

Loki I like your fantasy customs! I’m not that creative when it comes to fantasy model horse paintjobs. I am so used to doing normal horse colors. I think that is why my hippogriff came not quite so “fantasy” in color. He is just bay…a horse color.:P Crazy colors will me some getting used to.

Yeah I know a lot of people who are getting out of resins and even the custom hobby. People who are paying these outrageous amounts of money for high name paintjobs are realizing that they usually can not make money back on their investment if they need to resell it. With the original finish horses you usually can at least make what you paid for it, but on the customs and resins the market is always extremely up and down. What resin is popular for a few months will suddenly die down in popularity the next six month. Example: That Saddlebred resin called “Lord of the Ring”. He was going for like $1k at one point (unpainted), and awhile back I saw him on the MH$P for $400 unpainted. Crazy…. 🙄

in reply to: What do you do…. #542079

    Ahhh, yes. Fun. 😈

Every Thursday is $2.00 “U Call It Night” at Cellar Bar, a local yuppie type bar near NASA. Other than that, model horse shows, and going out on the weekends if I don’t have to work.

in reply to: What do you do while you paint? #538038

Yeah, I hear ya on the music thing. If I’m listening to music I usually pop in Pure Moods, Enya or a Lorenna McKennit type CD. It depends on what I am painting as to what music I listen to.

I also like to put in a really long DVD, like the any of the Lord of the Ring extended versions. If I know I’m going to be working alllll day I will have a Lord of the Rings extended version marathon or a Harry Potter marathon. Sometimes I even do a CSI marathon or The Office season 1 and 2 as I just luv those shows and have the DVDS (yeah….I’m a dork) 🙄

By the way, did you notice the PYO order page, here on this very website? http://www.windstoneeditions.com/paintyourown.htm

That way you don’t have to wait for Karen to post some on ebay, and even better, you can order the exact eye/jewel color combo that you want!

So few of the people who buy on ebay know about this page! I wish there was some way to make it more obvious!

lol, yeah I actually noticed it shortly after I put in the ebay orders 😳

I hadn’t even noticed the first time. I think it looks good, very real, but a question… Since it’s painted over glass, isn’t likely to flake off over time?

I was concerned about that as well. I primed the eyes in order for the new paint to adhere better. Then after I painted them I put 4 layers of a triple thick paint on gloss on top of it. Unless you take your fingernail and *try* to scrape it off, it should be ok.

Did you paint over his eyes? That’s kinda weird! 🙂

Yeeaaah, I did. Looking for opinions on that concept actually, be it good or bad, mainly so I know whether or not I should “waste?” my time doing that again. I just really did not like the red eye ball.
