Haha! Ok, now I have to ask what the Bulgarian pig-tale is…? Sounds like you have a great teacher.
But on to the reason I clicked this topic–HAPPY VALENTINES EVERYBODY!!!
It was in book five!

Snape is a creep.Susie told me that John has a thing on Monday. Take yer time, I’m enjoying keeping the house clean and the animals undead. Greg’s been fixing stuff…
Did you not see my Gmail stuff I sent you?!
And I’ve love the vole skin! And is it possible to bring that big Rembrandt book back, too? I know it’s a huge book, but I’d love to molest it for a while.
We all love Snape because he’s a creep. 😀
You guys are really staying on topic here, ain’t ya? For my bid I’m saying I bet Snape would love a salted vole skin. Probably great for potion making.
From a technical, writerly point of view, it would be lame story-telling if Snape turned out to be really evil–but then again, I’m betting there’s a heck of a lot we don’t know about stuff that will be revealed in the 7th book–it’s possible for JKR to put something in that would change that and make it NOT lame for him to be evil. So it’s hard to predict.

There’s a lot to be learned from the way he uses words, it’s just… gah. So pretty. And it’s lovely to nerd out over the geneaologies and all that. The hardest thing about reading the Silmarillion for me was remembering who was elvish and who wasn’t, because the elves are immortal… I know more than once I got confused and went “HEY WAIT, I thought this guy was human, wtf is he doing still alive this many years later?!” Haha.
It does get confusing at times. 😯 Anyway, when you the start the Book of Lost Tales 1 & 2, let me know. I may go back and re-read them. I’m sure there’s a lot I missed the first time. 😉
I most definitely shall! We could do a book club thing and egg each other on. Haha.
February 7, 2007 at 6:59 am in reply to: If you are going to read three fantasy books this year… #536660This is based on something someone said to me the other day, and it’s been going around in my head ever since–if I were to recommend three fantasy books that you should definitely read this year, what would they be? So I’ve been thinking about it, and in conclusion I’ve made up this list. Order doesn’t mean anything.
1.) Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke
2.) Howl’s Moving Castle by Dianna Wynne Jones
3.) Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman*So, now that I’ve shared my list, what are yours? It doesn’t have to be fantasy if that’s not your style, of course.
*I can barely choose between Neverwhere and Stardust, but I’m going with the former because of a personal bias toward steampunky themes.
Oh hey! I’ve seen those in the Toscano catalog and liked ’em. Never thought of repainting them though, that will be neat!
Holy WOW, Ski! That is one hecka awesome dragon. You are getting ridiculously good at this. O.O
Yeah, well, so is the Silmarillion… but it’s always worth it when you’re dealing with Tolkien! There’s a lot to be learned from the way he uses words, it’s just… gah. So pretty. Haha, you spelled my name right this time! 😆 <3
I know…my fingers have a mind of thier own when typing….. can I change the title of the post?
You can, but don’t bother. One of my piano teachers once gave me an award that had “Chesi Alberti” written on it… I can manage. I just had to poke you about it because it was too hard to resist!
Yes, that’s it! Yay! All right, I shall grudgingly admit that you’ve read more Tolkien than I have, since I haven’t made it through the Book of Lost Tales yet. But I shall! I read the first part about oooh. Drat. What’s his name. Was that Fingon? I remember him running on the beach with a flight of swans, and it was just about the most beautiful thing I’ve ever read…

Haha… have you read the Silmarillion, then? It took me six months but damn, it was FUN.
Tolkien’s also written a couple of other stories that don’t have anything to do with LOTR, but I can never remember what the book was called! It’s two novellas published together. Farmer something. Zaaah I need to read that again. It’s practically a one-sit read, and great.

Nostad lÃn sui orch, is you smell like an orc, right?
Yeah, but in Sindarin. Homelya na ve orco is Quenya, High Elvish. *sticks out High Elven toungue* It’s kind of like latin, in that during the Third Age they don’t speak it much (except in places like Lothlorien–Galadriel and her kin speak it, like when they great the hobbits with “Elen sila lumenn’ omentielvo”… but Legolas and Arwen speak Sindarin). Then there’s Noldorin too, but nobody knows much about that one. Quenya has more known words than Sindarin, though, as it’s what Tolkien evolved Sindarin from. It’s based on Finnish. Sindarin is based on Welsh.
Whooa. I can go on even more about this, too! Hope I’m not scaring anybody. 😈
