Male foo -dog

This is the clayed-up male foo dog about to have his first mold made. You can get an idea of what he looks like. Both front feet are down., like the foo-mom.

If you guys REALLY want me to change him so that he has his front foot up so it can be on a globe, you need to SQUEEK NOW! He can’t be changed later!
I want happy foo-dog owners.

  1. It works both ways for me. I’m biased and love the paw-on-globe option more because it’s true to the folklore, but the Foo Mum isn’t, so… Also, finding an orb to fit him and the additional costs of packaging and shipping the Foo Dad might be too much for some would-be Foo Dad owners.

With his paw down he would be consistent with the Foo Mum.

  2. I think the foot should be up, and would prefer it like that. But, if it’s too much of a pain to reposition his foot and leg, then don’t worry about it! I’ll still buy one to paint anyway.

  3. Please, please make the foot up! I’d be disappointed if the pose was exactly the same as the females – I love to have a variety in the poses to make them more fun and interesting to look at! Not sure I’d end up getting one if they looked too similar… so… foot up, so I can buy one, please! 😀

  4. I don’t like the foot up option personally. What if I can’t find a globe I like? Then he’d be all weird and unbalanced. Also, would it make him less stable sitting on the shelf or what not?

Plus – then we’d have to wait longer for foo-dad 🙂

  5. Foot up on a cast decorated/engraved globe!!! I can’t imaging the male Foo without one! That way he has support and people don’t have to worry about finding an orb to have him guard.

It should be easy enough to make right? Just find a ping pong to coat and cookie cut the shapes and attach.

  6. Paste the word “komainu” into google search and click “images”: Komainu is a new term I found for these foo-things,(besides “shishi”) so I am finding new images I hadn’t seen before.
These are such wonderful creatures; they are so crazy looking…
Sometimes both the male and female have their feet down, sometimes not.

This =) I would rather have a paintable “globe” if he is going to have one. If we have to find stone globes I say leave it as is. But something with some of those wonderful textures you put onto stuff Melody, would be awesome! The bases of the wizards come to mind. Or the neat little textures you drew into your graphic comics?

I was on the fence about this until this comment, which I think is an excellent idea. I’ll be getting one (well, probably several) either way though, as Im sure he’ll be quite impressive 🙂

Thanks Melody, can’t wait to see where he goes

This is true for me. Now I’m kind of worrying… What am I gonna put under his paw? Where should I start looking….you get the idea.

Feet down are fine with me. Less stress.

  10. I was on the fence until I googled these images…leg definitely up. Tells us “This is MY ball” very Alpha male! lol! Just my two cents. I’m 110% sure I’ll love him either way.

  11. Personally I say leave as is, I understand variation but it’s weirder to have one of the two ‘following the foot-up pose’ and the other not. They’re supposed to work as a pair and that just sorta.. creates friction in my mind. If that made any sense.
And as others said, less stress without.

And! It would only delay my precious foofoo.

(putting a baby under the paw just seems like the worst idea, unless this is suddenly the female one.)

  12. My personal opinion is to leave the male as is. Symmetry is rather important to these guys. Not all male foo dogs are depicted with a ball under one foot. In fact, I’ve got a pair that is rather similar to your male and female in pose – no ball or foo pup. They’re just mirror images of each other.
