I feel for you Tyrrlin, I also cannot believe the prices of these things. I have never bought a “special” Windstone off ebay. I simply cannot justify the price. Really its the same item I have in a production piece just painted different  I love the Blue Ribbon curlie but I sit here looking at my beautiful copper patina curl I paid only 50 dollars for (AND ALSO LOVE) then think of 500 dollars sunk into the same item but different color. (not saying I wouldnt LOVE to have that “special” curl) 😆 but really some people have to draw the line (unless you are rich or dont mind being in debt XD ) for that price I could buy two items from the store I want (gold lap and a scratcher) I might have my head bit off by some (who can afford them)but I would prefer some store stock instead of over priced ebay items. (I AM NOW GOING TO RUN AND HIDE)
Edited to add: I dont want to make anyone upset about this post so if I do just think of me as being one of those money poor jealous people who cannot afford a special paint Windstone so has to complain 😉

I actually agree with you on that..
and it’s kind of funny.. one of the people bidding up on it.. has kind of driven the price up on just about everything on there.. now of course someone will not like that I’ve pointed it out.. but the way they are bidding is kind of weird.. yeah if they really want to win all the things they are bidding on.. that’s fine.. but if not.. why drive up the prices like that..

Don’t worry, I agree 100%. I look at ebay prices and think “why?”. I own a whole two windstones that came from ebay. I only work 12 hours a week, so I can’t afford the prices… but at the same time I don’t want to pay them. And in no way in hell am I paying $500 for something that cost $50. Ha.
Another thing about ebay and am probably going to get a LOT of crap for for saying that I never understood… why bid? You’re only going to be paying more in the end. There is always a bidding fight right at the end of the auction, so why not save all those bids till then? Seriously. That way the price isn’t already five gabillion dollars and then after that last minute battle you’re paying fifteen gabillion. I don’t get it.

I’m glad I’m not the only person who’s thought this way 😳 . Still, at least Windstone is making some mega scratch out of the ebayed items. I’m sure they can use it. I just sometimes wish we all could have a chance to win a few special items. Oh well – c’est la vie 😀 .December 20, 2009 at 5:15 pm #790924I can sympatize will all that has been said. With the gypsum problems plaguing Windstone, at least they’re able to make some money from the special eBay items. Some of it just will not ever be in production because of the detail paint so those who are able to snag one are getting a one of a kind. I don’t hold it against anyone who are able to win a lot of these pieces. When I see a special piece I’d like, I do put in a maximum bid and leave it–if it goes over, even by a small amount, I leave it be–I already put in the maximum that I’d be willing to pay. I just go after the next item I want. I don’t win too many items this way but have been able to snag a few. I’m not rich but probably can afford a little more than some. I hope this isn’t viewed as ‘bidding up’ because I do want the item and I don’t put in bids for everything–I try but if someone is willing to outbid me then so be it. Unfortunately, that’s how eBay works–just keep that maximum in your head that you’d be willing to pay for any item–Windstone or not–it’ll keep things in perspective.
By the way—check out the ‘Ask Melody’ forum and look under the ‘Blue Ribbon’ thread–you’ll see the story of that current high bidder on this item–amazing.

Usually the reason I bid early is because I’m never around when the auctions end or I completely forget the auction is ending when I am home, my house is pretty hectic sometimes. I missed out on the no panties poad that way 🙁 I was home, I even set my alarm to go off right before the end of the auction 🙁 but that all failed and I missed out on it! I’m sure if I had bid my highest bid early on I would have won her too 🙁
December 20, 2009 at 6:26 pm #790926I agree with what Ladyfirebird said about bidding. I preferably wait till the last day (not last minute I have dialup so ssssllooowwwwww) 🙄 then just put in the max I want to bid then walk away and not look again till its over. 🙂 This way I dont get caught up in the excitement and spend more than I should. I have a special piece but I bought it from a forum member and just paid what they were asking (lilac copper goofup) I look at her everyday and smile because she is so pretty (she would be just as pretty not being a limited piece) I am happy for those who get them (and a little jealous 😀 ) I just hope the casting issue is resolved soon so I can get the production pieces I want. That is what I am going to wish for this Christmas 😆
December 20, 2009 at 6:31 pm #790927I agree, I usually wait until the end of an auction to bid because otherwise I just get outbid anyways. The only time I put in a bid on something before the end of the auction was to win my prototype emerald OW (non-windstone ebay auction) and that was only because I had to be in class during the auction and I couldn’t justify missing class to win a windstone 😆 . It was painful to do though, I had to put in a really high bid that I thought no one would outbid me on and if they did they could have it, but i’m sure I could have won it for less if I had been there at the end because whomever was bidding against me had plenty of time to try and outbid me for what ever they were willing to pay. I mean I really wanted the piece and I was willing to pay what my maximum bid was for it but it still pained me to know I could probably have gotten it for less. That being said I agree about not wanting to pay 500 for a curlie. I mean it’s a cute sculpt and that color is amamzing but i’m fine with the store ones that are cheap 😀 I only have three pieces I’ve won directly from windstone (that I still own) and they are my favorite of the dragon sculpts so I guess that sort of justifies the prices I’ve had to pay for them.
December 20, 2009 at 6:39 pm #790928I just read the thread about the blue ribbon curlie. 😮 What a sweet thing to do, I just wish she didnt have to pay so much money. I think it will be the most expensive curlie EVER 😮 lets hope it doesnt go any higher 🙂
Edited to add: this has gone off topic a bit so just wanted to add. What a cute chickie that griffin is.
December 20, 2009 at 8:23 pm #790929Imagine how it feels to paint these things and not be able to afford bidding on them on eBay… 😉
Honestly though I am happy that these bring so much joy to those that get them. Also most of the time and cost that goes into these things is in the painting… something that has a lot of hand painted detail cost Windstone a lot more in time and money than normal production pieces.

I couldn’t handle that 😮 The torture!
Do you own any PYO that you painted yourself? 🙂December 21, 2009 at 2:03 am #790931*chuckles wryly*
I have no hard feelings for people who want to bid and are willing to pay for what they bid on. I’m also very happy to see Windstone get lots of business. I’m just a little wistful that the griffins are getting so much attention lately, since they used to be more of a “niche” creature that you could snag some of the special paints for… well, less than they’re going for now.
Thanks for the discussion about it, and I agree that chickie is adorable! (and expensive!) 😀
Windstone collector in remission. 😉

Do you own any PYO that you painted yourself? 🙂No.. I don’t. But it’s okay. I’d actually really rather see them go to collectors, as I tend to dwell on things that I consider flaws in my own work! 🙂 I think you guys appreciate them more than I would.
