God blessed us with enough funds to fix our house!! (income tax money) We have a room, that was once a garage, and the previous owners did a very bad job transforming it into a room. They didn’t raise the door, so we have had that room flood MANY times through that door. Also, because of that door, we have had frogs, mice, bugs, drafts, frost, and much more water come into our house. Because our house is cinderblock, we cannot raise the door where it is at…so, we have to move it to an adjacent wall (the only wall that is wooden), seal up the current door, do some draining around the area to move water away from the house, move a window, and put new flooring in! Such a big project for one door, but I have HATED it for so long now! We can finally get it fixed!! YIPPEEEE!!! I will be one step closer to transforming that room into a dining room! The only bad news is that we have a sliding glass door with the same problem as our other door (same room)…fortunately it isn’t as bad, but we still need to get it fixed down the line (maybe next year’s taxes??) In the meantime, that room cannot be fully fixed because we will have to wait on new carpeting, but I am still thrilled! When we find the right general contrator, I will take pictures of before, during, and after!
(side story: My hubby went to get our taxes done. We knew how much we needed to get this room fixed, and so I was anxiously awaiting how much we would get. Hubby called me, and said we only got 1200 (we need 2300) I was so upset, and I was crying a bit, because I got my hopes up. Hubby gets home, and about an hour later, I mention the taxes, and he gives me a sly smile…..I knew.
I asked him how much we got on our taxes, and we got about 1000 more than what we needed! I playfully punched him, and he laughed at me as I told him what I was thinking after he had told me that reduced amount. haha!! Thank goodness we can also pay off some debt as well (just a smidgen of it, but it is a start!) What’s funny is that I was thinking to myself, ” I hope he comes home and says he was lying….but the last few times I wished that, it didn’t happen.” He thought that was funny as well!!
I would LOVE to say that I am going to get a Windstone with it, but as much as I am tempted, I will have to be smart and not get one. 😈 It will drive me nuts I am sure, because I will see the pretties and want them!! lol If we didn’t have all of this stuff to do with it, I would have even bid on an ebay piece, but I will still have to wait until I can get my first ebay piece!January 31, 2010 at 3:31 am #500174January 31, 2010 at 12:34 pm #804367Congrats on the fantastic tax return! Hope everything goes smoothly with the fixes you’re doing to that room this year. (And that you can finish it next year!) 🙂

February 5, 2010 at 4:12 am #804379Thank you! I feel the same way! We will have to wait for warmer weather (come on Spring!) But I will definitely update! I had been secretly plotting a way to burn down the house in a way that everyone would be safe…a vacation…pups at a sitter…..We are in another state…HAHA! No-I promise I would never seriously consider it, but that is just to illustrate how much I HATED that room, and how thrilled I am to get it fixed!!
