I visit this wildlife refuge a lot, and decided to share some of my better pictures that I selected from my multiple albums, the result of years of going and taking photos. This is in Oklahoma, and the wildlife refuge is 59,020 acres with a large amount of that being inaccessible to the public. Wild herds of pure blood longhorn, bison, elk, and white tail deer live there. They’re allowed to roam freely within the park area [which means if a herd of bison are standing on the road, you get to sit and wait for them to move.]
These pictures are taken from multiple years, during various seasons, so don’t be surprised if some are in snow, or green grass, etc. I love this park and look forward to each trip I make there. Sadly, many times the animals take off when you spot them and pictures are blurry, so many of mine I deemed unsuitable for sharing here. I hope to take better ones in the future to allow more of these wonderful creatures to be enjoyed =)
Please don’t use my photos without asking me first. These animals are in no way tame, you’re not allowed to approach them, feed them, or try to touch them. They might get close to you or your car, though

June 12, 2012 at 2:48 pm #881678That refuge looks so beautiful and peaceful! I wish I lived closer because I would be absolutely thrilled to go there and see all the wildlife roaming free on the (-what I read was-) 59,020 acres of land! The experience must be amazing! 😀

It really is. The bison herds roam all over, with babies this time of year. Great prairie dog towns all over too. Not all those acres are for public use, but what is for the public is still large areas off the mountains, grassland and forests =) deer are fairly easy going too, willing to keep eating while you watch as long as you don’t get too close
