Umm I went to the dentist for the first time in about 15 years this year, I never had a problem until then, LOL. I have a wisdom tooth that has been coming in for about 5+ years, and it got infected, but it was a gum infection not a tooth infection so I still have my tooth. They wanted me to go have them all removed, I decided not to, I figure until they bother me they can stay, LOL. So they then booked me in for cleanings and fillings, I had to have 2 of my old fillings replaced and they then filled a few more, and put a protective coating on all of my teeth. And you know what none of it was that bad, it was all totally easy. Now we have massage chairs and tvs in the ceilings at my dentist. After all of that they did a sonic cleaning and OMFG it was the worst pain I have ever felt, sorry but do the rest knowing it isnt all that bad, sonic cleaning are horrible though.
August 7, 2008 at 3:10 am #727077I’ve never been afraid of the dentist. He was my dad’s cousin who was actually closer to my age then my dad. He played piano at my first wedding, and is a friend too. He always had the top technology including a headset you could wear and watch a movie on during long procedures. Now, though, since I got married to the current hubby, I live too far away to go to him any more. The dentist I have now is also nice, but doesn’t have the movie viewer. π
August 7, 2008 at 3:13 am #727078I absolutley LOATHE the dentist…any dentist. My suggestion? XANAX. I seriously hate the dentist so much, that when my molar broke several years ago, I actually pulled most of it myself with needle nose pliers. I DO NOT RECOMEND THIS!!!!!! I was stupid. I ended up missing a piece, and it got infected and absessed, and i had to go to an oral surgeon to have it all pulled……OW! and it cost like $800. I think I was 18 or 19 at the time. I had to be knocked out for that one….I’m sorry you have to go to the evil dentist!!
August 7, 2008 at 7:40 am #727079Dentists don’t scare me, I close my eyes for the needles, I’ve never had the gas. I like getting my teeth cleaned. (I think I’m lazy =P ) I just hate the fact that every time I go, I have a cavity or three and I have to pay a crap load of money to have them filled. That’s usually why I don’t go, I don’t have the money for all that.
I have a wisdom tooth coming in on each side of my mouth on the bottoms. It’s not so bad so far…
August 7, 2008 at 1:09 pm #727080I’m glad someone else seems to have a cavity every time they go. Here I figured I was the only one lol. I used to go to the same dentist for 20 years but my mother wanted me to get my teeth whitened so I had to go to this hollywood dentist since my regular dentist didn’t do it. They found an abscess in my tooth from way back when I had my wisdom teeth out and they cut my gums when I was fighting with them. It killed my tooth and I never knew it since I never had pain or any issues. So now my mom’s like “you need to go to them since that old dentist never found any of this”. I don’t like the hollywood dentist, I feel they try to talk me into stuff I don’t need. Every time I go there like “OMG your gums are horrible, blah blah blah”. They wanted me to come in every 3 months for cleaning and gave me perscription toothpaste and mouthwash. I told them I can’t afford all this stuff but they don’t care they push it on you and tell you if you don’t do it your teeth are gonna rot out of your head. So when he told me I had all these fillings I’ll need to get I’m half wondering if he’s just telling me that so I’ll have to pay them boat loads of money. I want to go back to my old dentist but he is booked for months and can’t get me in.
August 7, 2008 at 1:30 pm #727081If you don’t want to go to the “hollywood” dentist anymore then after he does this last bit for you then don’t. Find another dentist.
I used to have no problems going to the dentist when I was younger. Went twice a year for cleanings with no fear. Then we had a small time when I was a teenager where I couldn’t go for several years. It ended up being about 5 or 6 years before I went to the dentist. I had to go to a certain one because he was the only one where I lived that my insuance would cover. I felt like his dental techs were trying to dig my teeth out when they were cleaning them so it got me gun shy about going to the dentist.
When I got married and we moved I didn’t go to the dentist for almost 4 years. Then last July I decided I needed to see about getting my teeth cleaned. I made an appointmet with a local dentist and was pleasantly surprised that I could barely feel it when the dental techs cleaned my teeth. That gentleness has made it a little easier to go back for the two regular cleanings I have had since then and I am hating the fact that I am going to be leaving that particuar dentist’s care.
August 7, 2008 at 1:39 pm #727082it’s bad enough being stressed. Dont go to a dentist you dont wanna go to. It’s your body, and you have every right to choose a doctor you’re comfortable with.
August 7, 2008 at 2:24 pm #727083I grind my teeth so I often give myself tooth pain, so I always saw going to the dentist as a relief XD Also, my teeth are soft so I get cavities left and right. I had to get a crown recently, which was an uncomfortable process to say the least, but /shrugs. I’ve had all my wisdom teeth removed, but I was knocked out the whole operation.
And though I do hate shots with a passion, I’m a big girl now and just stay still as they do it and think of something else (like sing a song in my head, or try to list as many breeds of horses as I can) instead of getting all worked up like I did when I was a little girl. I think freaking out about it just makes it worse in your head. Because really, most dentists shots really don’t hurt that bad, at least in my experience.
August 7, 2008 at 3:43 pm #727084I am Chief Chicken when it comes to going to the dentist but have found out it pays to have my teeth cleaned and checked every six months. I used to get a lot of little cavities but if I go every six months I don’t get any.
August 7, 2008 at 6:31 pm #727085August 7, 2008 at 8:50 pm #727086I think I’m just going to have them fix the filling that fell out then go back to my old dentist for a cleaning and see if he comes up with the same thing the hollywood dentist came up with. I would go to my old dentist now but he is booked through september and I don’t want to wait that long to get this hole in my tooth fixed.
August 7, 2008 at 9:03 pm #727087I’m a chicken when it comes to the dentist too. When I was 19 or so I went to the dentist for my first ever fillings and I didn’t know what to expect, they put a piece of gauze in my mouth and I didn’t think anything of it…the dentist had pulled both of my wisdom teeth without telling me! π― Turns out when they put the shot in to numb my mouth for the filling, some infection came out of my gums near my wisdom teeth so they needed to come out. I didn’t mind really as those teeth had been hurting for MONTHS-but it did surprise me :* I know a lot of people would freak out having two teeth pulled with no warning-but he did it for free as well as the other two wisdom teeth (at a later appointment)
Now I have two teeth that have hurt on and off for about 6 months-I know I need some fillings but I don’t know if I can afford to get them done *sigh*
August 7, 2008 at 10:06 pm #727088Kyrin wrote:What’s wrong with veneers? Unless your definition of a veneer and mine are different. I have a veneer, without it I would have a stub of a front tooth. I broke it when I was nine, after years of horrid looking patch jobs I finally got the glass veneer. I’ve had it over 15 years now and I am not sorry…it looks and feels just like my natural teeth. And it’s permanent.
I had to have two molars pulled in the last 3 years, they wanted to do root canals, but I simply can not afford $1000 per root canal and $90 to pull the offending tooth was what I could afford. At least they don’t show when I smile, so I don’t mind. Perhaps someday I’ll get a bridge or something, but it’s not critical. I don’t get cavities…kinda wish I did, instead I grind my teeth and crack them…which is worse.
Anyway…I agree that Purpledoggy should keep her teeth…I know she was just joking about the dentures anyway. π
Dentists aren’t that bad, if you don’t like the one you are seeing right now, look around, you aren’t stuck with him, shop around until you find one you like.
Kyrin
sorry π there is nothing esteticly wrong with veneers if they serve their purpose and are correctly built, but logically they are not the best choice for function and since you grind your teeth it might fall off
my definition of veneers would be “a partial crown adhesed to the labial/buccal (outer) surface of your teeth” while a crown would cover the whole tooth, I state that veneers are impractical because erhmmm (scratches head, vocabulary failiure drawing instead)
failiure uploading picture website instead
August 7, 2008 at 11:33 pm #727089I had a crown made for my back tooth and it cost $873.00 in July 2006.
http://www.cosmeticdentistryguide.co.uk/crowns.htmlI had another one done this month for $1400.00 and at the same time he was doing that one he notice that another of my back tooth is cracked all the way and will also need the same thing. π It never ends!
Unfortunately the insurance only pay not even half of the amount!
He asked me if I eat hard stuff and I told him yes and what caused the other two to break was while I was eating granola cereals. Now he tells me to give them up and eat softer food. π I like my grains and nuts!As far as my wisdom teeth they are all gone all 4 of them. It hurt to get them done but I’m glad it’s done! π
