I drink coffee in the car, or water, but I get the fiancee to hand it to me. That way I don’t look down to have to get it, or open the waterbottle, etc.
July 13, 2008 at 6:39 pm #722097Have any of you recieved that email of DON’T TEXT AND DRIVE? Its pictures of some pour soul that was messin around with his cell phone and ended up under the front end of a semi… he was in a little car…
ICKY graphic pictures of the fire rescue pulling the truck off and the dude out…
IF YOU HAVEN’T recieved an email like that yet, fair warning, it is graphic… the first picture is of the car under the front end of the semi day cab (which means it has NO sleeper cabin on the back of the cab of the truck). IF you cannot handle graphic pictures I would not go past the first picture… I did and it isn’t pretty. I have recieved this email twice and I refuse to pass it on since the pictures are graphic. The first picture is enough to make a point. The rest are WOW… graphic!
This is just a fair warning if anyone gets that email…
I know I didn’t want to see the rest of the pictures.

i saw a thing on 48 hours how they are cracking down on people posting pictures like that on the net . There are some cops and Fire dept people who will be in for a rude awakening if it goes through . from what they said it can result in jail time because of the harrasment the families have to go through with net nerds finding the home numbers emails and phone #’s of the victims families causing them undo stress and anguish.
I personally hope it goes through i dont think its apporpreate to take pictures at sites like that unless its for the police to do an investigation and it ends there. there are even fire fighters who put cameras on thier helmets to record stuff in the homes of fire victims while the fire is active, i would be ok with it if it were for training but its not , its for thier sick ammusment
July 16, 2008 at 3:20 am #722099I hope that they make it to where those kinds of pictures can’t be emailed any more. I know that I didn’t want to see the end result of them pulling the guy out. Just tooooooo graphic!

It’s certainly not good if relatives get bombarded with crank calls, but I’m not convinced having such pictures out there and available is entirely bad.
I am, what? 52 years old. I’ve never seen a dead person; never had anyone from my immediate family die or even get seriously hurt. I’ve been in a number of car wrecks over the years, and had three vehicles totalled out from under me by other vehicles running into mine. But the worst damage I’ve had was temporary amnesia after someone rear-ended me at about 30 mph when I stopped at a pedestrian crossing (my car was propelled forward and missed the pedestrian by about 6 inches).
So, going on my experience, car wrecks are pretty safe. A vehicle runs a stop sign and ploughs into me; I get a bruised elbow.
I know, theoretically, that one can get killed in a car wreck. But all I have from personal experience and observation is that one can get injured in a crash and bounce right back (I have known lots of people get into car or motorcycle wrecks and be up and walking within a few weeks, with metal splints, damaged internal organs, missing fingertips and so on), still pretty much themselves; still alive and only slightly damaged.
Even the ones I hear about who die in a wreck, it’s just a line in the newspaper, or occasionally a picture on the news of a crumpled but vacated vehicle. There’s always someone dying, somewhere; nothing I can do about it.
So seeing a series of photographs of someone clearly dead, clearly as a result of a car crash, is sort of reassuring. I’m not being a careful driver for no good reason; I’m being a careful driver in an attempt to avoid having someone (including myself) end up like that as a result of anything I might do.
I’ve got relatives who are or were police officers; I have friends who are police officers. They see this stuff regularly. And riding passenger with them, one can’t help but note that they tend to drive as though their lives depend on what they, and the people around them, are doing at any and every moment. Which of course it does.
Maybe this stuff should be seen or encouraged to be seen by everyone who drives, not just those who want to work off a moving violation by taking a so-called “safe driving” course.
But sending an email link as junk-mail is definitely not the way.
July 16, 2008 at 5:59 pm #722103I saw that email. Didn’t particularly want to. I’ve seen one dead person in my life, they had died in a motorcycle, one vehicle accident and they hadn’t finished covering the body yet when we drove by. They were covering the little pieces first and then the large, obviously human remains pieces afterwards. That sight has haunted me for a while now, though I never knew the person.
Also, I know of some cops (with the family’s permission) showing slides of an accident with two people, a motorhome, and a semi (believe me you don’t want to know the details) at a school. In my dad’s physics class too boot. I’m glad they discontinued that before I got there. I was disturbed enough by the description that was given to me by a doctor or ambulance crew I forget which during a S.A.D.D. conference.
Some accidents you can bounce back from (the rollover I was in a couple of years back, for instance, though I’d call it a ‘bounce’ we never actually rolled on the ground, more, hit it 3 times in between flying through the air). But some, due to human error or just sheer forces involved, you don’t. Most collisions people come out fine (like rear-endings, being the most common 2 vehicle collision).
July 16, 2008 at 6:57 pm #722104Dave is not alone thinking of a car crash as totally surviveable. I know a man whose 20 year old son was in a crash. His parents had just gotten to PA for a weekend away when they got the call. Knowing his son had been a passenger in the back seat the dad asked if they really had to come back. The answer? “Well, if you want to say goodbye while he is still alive.” 😯 Fortunately he did survive – after a couple weeks in ICU and after loosing his spleen and I think a kidney. Two years later he is still have surgeries to try to give him more use of his dominant hand – and the kid used to play guitar. 😥
The cause of the crash, by the way, was an idiot on a hand held cell phone who turned around to talk to his passengers. He hit the other car just behind the driver’s door – everyone agrees it is a miracle the 20 year old is still alive.

Quote:The pictures I am talking about are of people who are no longer in one piece being pulled out of a smashed car… and its being Emailed. If it is at a web site, I wouldn’t care because I don’t go surfing for that kind of crap… but when it is emailed to my email with NO warning of how graphic the pictures are then yeah, that upsets me and it shouldn’t happen.
I once recieved graphic pictures of a person that was attacked by a grizzley bear… I didn’t want to see those pictures either and told the person who sent the email to not ever send me stuff like that again!

I agree absolutely. It’s one thing if I choose to go looking for it but I would never want something like that in my email.
