I just finished painting my second muse. I added 3 3mm moonstones. I used antiquing gel first, then painted over that. I especially like the effect of the pearl paint with blue interference. The last picture shows this one along with the first muse I painted earlier this year (that one has 3mm amethyst, garnet, and moonstone gems added).

Earlier this year, my very first PYO was a phoenix. I used water color markers with a Krylon clear coat. Gold highlights and some other areas (the tail feathers) were done with acrylic.

I could use some tips on how to paint the rock part especially. I’d like to paint a rock dragon at some point.

I really like that first muse, with the yellow/straw eye!

The rock… ah, whether it’s the phoenix, the rock dragon or the hippocampus, that rock can be tricky. After a few trials, I now pick 2 tones of the same colour, then water both down. I drip/dip/splash/quickly apply the lighter tone, let dry, then same with the darker tone. I find it shows the details of the rock nicely and it gives it a realistic look.

Read my books! Volume 1 and 2 of A Dragon Medley are available now.

Both Muses are wonderful! I’m a fan of the Muses as well.
Your PYO Phoenix is really nice too!
