I’m hoooooopiiiing pearl gold banding will fix it. Any other suggestions?
This is actually my very first dragon on top of Keeper. I had been so afraid of scales after taking a stab at a Kirin and nearly going bald over it, but I took a leap of faith and absolutely LOVE painting dragons now. The little ones are back in the store so I grabbed three! Eeee I wish patience came in pill form ’cause I have so many things I’m so eager to paint, but can’t paint’em all at once (as miss Celestial’s disgruntled expression tells)
That’s a gorgeous phoenix (I love the feet! ^_^ Their color is splendid!) but what really gets my saliva glands working is that keeper! O.O I love oranges mixed with cooler colors.

He’s nearly finished too! I’m just having to take baby steps with finishing touches because the paint thins out soooo much that it takes a lot of layers just to start seeing a new color.
June 6, 2011 at 5:17 pm #847475Your phoenix is amazing, I can’t say anything that hasn’t been said already on it. Really, very nice. I can’t wait to see your keeper when you finish him. You mentioned acrylic ink, do you air brush or hand paint? If you hand paint, How much different are the inks vs the traditional acrylic paint? I imagine the consitency is so much thiner but, is the color vibrancy when dry different also?
June 6, 2011 at 7:48 pm #847491AnonymousI hand paint. Acrylic ink has the same consistency as airbrush medium, perhaps even thinner, yet layers nicely. I use it for a more solid look than interference and you don’t have to worry about graininess from mixing mica powders, making edges much sharper. It shines like metal instead of color like interference does, so I can create more shiny compositions without busying the eye with too much interference.

I know I’m chiming in late, but that Phoenix is absolutely breathtaking. I’ve always adored your style. Everglade the griffin was one of the first examples of PYOs that I saw when I started to get an interested in painting PYOs. You could say, your work was what inspired me 🙂 Everglade is still one of my favorite PYO griiffys to date 😉November 23, 2011 at 6:15 am #863485AnonymousThank you so much for the touching comment PT =)
I’m sorry guys I swear I’m not avoiding this forum on purpose. The truth is, after 15 weeks in hospital/hospice care, my mother passed away earlier this month due to cancer. Most of my time was spent driving out to visit her and get her things as she was an accomplished fine artist herself and had a lot of paintings to finish. Now I am dealing with preparing for the celebration of life next weekend, and am slowly going through her immense studio doing inventory and choosing what to keep. I don’t plan on living with my dad forever either and am aiming to move and start my dream life early next year where for once I can finally pump out art nonstop at a sustainable pace.
There is one very red phoenix for Wampus soon to be finished and the Keeper WIP seen earlier before I do move though. I’ve been making so many fantastic color scheme concepts I’m near to bursting with overflow of the need to crank these out on sculptures.
