Celestial got put on hold to get a certain flamboyant bug out, but he’s kinda stuck because the orange isn’t behaving how I want it to so I am avoiding getting over that obstacle by working on the other obstacles that I avoided by painting him in the first place XD
I’m hoooooopiiiing pearl gold banding will fix it. Any other suggestions?
This is actually my very first dragon on top of Keeper. I had been so afraid of scales after taking a stab at a Kirin and nearly going bald over it, but I took a leap of faith and absolutely LOVE painting dragons now. The little ones are back in the store so I grabbed three! Eeee I wish patience came in pill form ’cause I have so many things I’m so eager to paint, but can’t paint’em all at once (as miss Celestial’s disgruntled expression tells)

‘pearly gold sounds like it will look nice. what was the look you were trying for with the orange? Yeah, I got a purple one that totaly went not as I had planned it too..but ooo well. They have minds of thier own.I planned pearl gold trim anyways, but wanted flaming metallic orange for the bulk of those scales and it kept coming out as brown copper. My bad for painting on a dark base; it worked beautifully for the blue and purple, but next time I’m leaving the brightest parts white underneath. There’s already three coats of thinned orange on the horns (thinning it out is the only way I can blend anything), and it’s really that hard to see, lol. I was so sad to see there is no bright yellow for the Keeper’s eyes either which I planned in my concept render D: Big oops there.
Also Koishii I was wondering if you still used any blacklight paints and if you found a brand most similar acting as acrylics? My next little dragons will be so, but the only stuff I’ve found with the perfect colors are these Elmer’s Painters Markers, buuut one pen wont last a single sculpture, heheh.
February 25, 2011 at 11:23 am #775101tee hee… I love the picture. 😆 That keeper is looking mighty nice.
February 25, 2011 at 1:48 pm #775102Bwahahahaha! That pic is priceless!
If the orange isn’t doing it, then chance the scheme completely. You never know, he might have a smile if you go with something else 😀
Read my books! Volume 1 and 2 of A Dragon Medley are available now.

February 25, 2011 at 5:01 pm #775104Ok, I get what you mean now. Ok, so one of the ways I get bright metalic orange on a dark base is after I do a base of orange over the dark, I paint metallic gold and light gold over it. It does not have to be a solid layer. Then I paint a thin layer of flat orange mixed with some metalic gold over that. The pigmant of the flat orange is usualy enough to make the metallic gold look bright orange. At least that has worked for me.
I did! The glow in the dark paints are a bust, those did not work out for the grainy reason and the fact that they only glow green even if they are another color. BAH.
I think I have FolkArt and Decoart florescent, and I tried using hilighters, which I think could be used well. I also tried dry brushing interference over it, but that dampens the black light affect. Pg 13 is the dragon I finished: http://www.windstoneeditions.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=13482&start=180
I just got some florescent for the airbrush that Jaquared makes, but I think you can brush paint with those too, even though they are thinner.I have not gotten a technique down yet, but I have another dragon coloring I want to try.
February 25, 2011 at 5:51 pm #775105Oooooooooooooooh the dragon is coming out beautiful!!! That Phoenix though, man oh man! How I would LOVE to have a Phoenix to match my Celestial Griffin <3

Thanks Koish for the tips! After I made my last post a light bulb kinda went *ding!* in my head and looked at me neon painters markers and realized the answer was in my hand! I looked back to my desktop screen and realized that my laptop had done terrible injustice to the colors of my digital concept! So now the right look should proceed from now on. I see there are now invisible blacklight paints available, I think that might be our solution with interference. I’m trying to see if I can get a sample pack somewhere and experiment *evil laughter*
February 26, 2011 at 12:19 am #775107I looked and I found I have the Apple Barrel florescent paints. I liked using those..but they are thin.
If you get those, let me know how they work! that sounds very interesting!
June 5, 2011 at 3:14 am #847371AnonymousHey guys! It’s been a while. The sun is finally starting to shine with warm temperatures thus I got in the mood to tackle some windstones and got this chick finished (finally). I tried some metallic acrylic ink for the shiny blue parts this time around and it works like a charm!
Unfortunately Canada Post has gone on strike, so I don’t know when I’ll be able to put this beaut up for sale. Last time the strike lasted a month! x__x
