Cool, so that explains kickstarters. I’m completely neutral in this however, as I didn’t participate in the KS nor do I like poads… but I did have KS all wrong if no item is ever meant to be an exclusive item. So if that’s the case, then there really wouldn’t be an issue with the (bean?) poads being a regular production/pyo piece. But I do keep hearing “kickstarter exclusive” in these posts… did Melody ever say that? Remember that I didn’t follow a single thing involving the KS or anything about it. I DO think, that if Melody specifically said that these poads were a ks exclusive, maybe that should be that… I understand that money is money for a business, but I also think things should be honored.
Beans are an excusive Kickstarter item. The other poads that I painted for the KS were not specifically exclusive, but backers got to choose poads if they wanted to.
If there are any left overs of the big poads when the special store closes, the larger poads will be put into the regular store until they are sold out.
October 26, 2018 at 10:48 am #1544023I have a solution, if Melody decides she wants to keep doing bean Poads even after the KS, but still keep the KS bean Poads ‘exclusive’, she could make the Bean Poad sculpt slightly different! Have it in a different pose, it’s head turned to the side or something like that. That way there will still be the exclusive KS Bean Poads, and then a production or pyo Bean Poad that is clearly different than the KS one. That is, if Melody even wants to continue doing bean Poads at all after this. Frankly, I think a bean baby Sloat would also be awesome, if Melody wanted to do a Bean series xD
Yes I had planned to do other “bean” poad sculpts for other Reptangle kickstarters.
October 26, 2018 at 10:55 am #1544024Some of these comments, especially unnecessary comments about people’s mentality. Melody specifically stated exclusive. If she chooses to change that later on, then that’s her choice as the artist. All anyone can do is speculate on the future. Currently, it says exclusive. I think of the fantasy gb hatching pegs and ebay as examples. They still make hpegs and paint them for ebay and store production, but they were not as fun for her to paint, a headache, so that will be a very rare fantasy grab bag. Even though it wasn’t labeled exclusive, it pretty much is. *Ebay’s, may or may not be exclusive, and are specifically listed as such in the description.* *The bean description specifically says exclusive and I remember reading multiple times of Melody saying that the sculpt was only for kickstarter.* You didn’t have to buy high tier to get extra poads. I almost couldn’t buy anything, then I was able to buy a book. And then I decided and was able to add a bean poad because at first all I thought I could afford was a book. (I never liked poads so much either, but now have a couple beans and a young thanks to the store she created.) There were inexpensive options to back and I understand that some people were unable at all to back. I was almost one of those people as I was prepping my house for sale. Melody kindly opened the kickstarter store with the books taking longer and since she was still filling original orders. (Here, I’m assuming, I don’t know for sure that’s the reason.) And there are definitely super kind people that are willing to access their kickstarter page to get non-kickstarter people poads. It was also Melody’s choice to open a store page for kickstarter backers. None of us, as far as I know, knew she would do that. Super kind, but she didn’t have to and chose to on her own. People always get excited and passionate of Melody’s art. Tangents of what if’s float around about pieces and paint schemes all the time. There’s some, no matter how much all of us loved it, stayed ebay paint schemes and never made production paint even if it would have made windstone alot of money. Their choice. As far as making money, maybe there are a couple that care about that. Most of the time I take a loss on extra pieces I sell from a grab bag, which are one of a kind/rare. If I’m lucky, I get around what I paid. There’s also been times I paid alot to get one I thought I really wanted and then had to sell for less later when I changed my mind.
We made the special store because so many people wanted certain colored poads that they missed getting during the ( insane) livestreams, so I painted more. Then I went and made Podge colored beans at the last minute, so many people wanted those added after the KS ended. The store was a way to offer extra addons. It was messy timing on my part!

I wait to see what kind of different Poad Beans you come up with in the future!

Not currently open for PYO commissions.October 26, 2018 at 11:12 am #1544026The point of a Kickstarter is to raise a lump of money to do a production run of some item. The item itself will be for sale to everyone after it is made, but normally KS backers will get something ( or a lot of somethings) that are exclusive rewards for backing the project. In my case, the beans and sketchbook (in print form) are exclusive.
“The Veligent” book is the product that will be for sale from our normal online store.
I plan to do a regular production “pebble poad” that is a bit heavier than the bean. The problem with the beans is that the airbrush blows them off of the painting wheel!
(Poad is a trade mark of M. Pena. I hate putting the “tm” after every Poad word.)

Blowing off??? Maybe it’s time to go in the other direction and make a MEGAPOAD, looking the Secret Keeper right in the eyes. lol

I think a poad sculpt that looks like the “Podge toe” button would be adorable.
October 26, 2018 at 12:16 pm #1544033Poor little beans! I just lol’d, and cringed, picturing the poor little things being blasted off the counter.
The insane livestream grabs and the kickstarter store are way over the top in customer service. I hopped on to watch the craziness when I could. It was fun to see all of the poads and the frenzy. You put even more on your plate. Timing wasn’t messy for the store, in my opinion, it was a nice surprise and I feel most would agree.
And to 2nd Natasha….baby unis 😍
October 26, 2018 at 1:13 pm #1544037I knew the beans had to be a challenge to paint, but that is hilarious that the airbrush blows them helter skelter! ! Yay for the baby unicorn grab bag! ! Something to look forward to in November sounds like! !
Always looking for a lovely GB Young Unicorns, TP Male Dragons or TP Male Griffins!

Yes, that’s what we need – Garden Poads! Or maybe not … can you imagine the shipping for that girl?

Since the Poad shape is so… rotund, it probably would take a lot more material to make one Secret Keeper height. You’ll need a crane to move it in the garden.
So maybe a MegaPoad just double the size of the adult? 😛

You could use a little wad of picture tack to stick them to the wheel temporarily. It is the stuff that you put behind the corners of pictures to keep them straight on the wall, and doesn’t damage the wall when it comes off. I can’t remember a brand name.

I assumed the minis would be difficult to paint due to being small; that’s pretty impressive that they’re light enough to be blown across the table. I can just imagine Melody trying to airbrush the base colors, minis rolling, “dang it”s and “sunova”s and expletetives resounding…
Super excited for the upcoming baby unis. Can’t wait!
