Are the loaf dragons smooth like that or have they since had details added or scales?

      They are smooth. Pebble loafs.

How long does a sweet little sculpt like that generally take, from start to finish?

It depends how many other demands get in the way of Melody working on it, and maybe which new sculpts have highest priority.  Having Gina painting the ebay pieces does seem to be giving Melody more time to create new creatures.

The answer to your  question usually is someplace between two years and ten years, though I think some things have been “cooking” for longer than that.  However, the “Sir Garlen” sculpt and the mini bean Poad for the Kickstarter appear to have been created quite quickly and I think that some of the new PYOs (kitsune, rooster, hen, and maybe the sushi cats) were more like one year from concept to finished piece.

The pebbles don’t take very long  in actual work time, but in elapsed time, from start to finish,  they can take months, just because I  have lots of other things going on. I haven’t timed myself in actual hours , but maybe 20- 40 hours of solid work?  I do spend a lot of time sanding.

Hahaha!   The Ayonah lion kirin has been “in the works*” for about 20 years.

I have just tried to paint a batch of loafs, and they are murder to paint. This isn’t good.

Maybe they should be PYO sculpts if they are such a pain to paint? I wouldn’t mind a Pebble PYO of some sort.

I think I just need to change the sculpt a bit.

Eep, hope that some sculpt changes make the loafs easier to paint!

Maybe give them simpler color schemes instead of intricate scenes and silhouttes? (actually hope for at least a few simpler ones)

Though pooh looks like now I can’t get one unless I’m bad and stupid and save room for it on a credit card instead of paying a bill poohpooh was looking forward to it…

Might they be released later as LPs/ production, or are they likely to be reserved as GBs?

The way the edges of the wings and the dorsal scales meet is problematic. Really hard to paint without making  a mess.  The castings we have already can still be done with a simpler paint scheme.
