Mimi, I love your collection. Those are some nice Michael Whelan’s and I love the pewter plaques from Malaysia. How did you get those? Have you been there?
Thanks Star! Yes, I got the pewter plaques a long time ago when I was there on business (my company has a plant there). Selangor Pewter, which is pretty famous for pewter, is based in Malaysia and they had a store in the shopping center right next to my hotel. So I picked up a lot of stuff from that store while I was there ended up with half a suitcase full of pewter! I’m glad I got the stuff I did though, because it looks like they don’t make most of it anymore.
By the way, I also got the vase when I was over in Japan on business. As it turns out, the city where the plant is located is known for its lacquerware, and that vase is an example of the local craftsmanship.
It’s nice that you were able to get such cool things as keepsakes from your trips. I opened your link and they have a really nice dragon plaque. It’s a bit expensive though. Too many new Windstones coming out for me to get it now. 😆

Yes, the best fringe benefit of the trips is being able to pick up souvenirs! 😀 I always come back with less money and heavier suitcases (or extra suitcases…he he). I think Kauai was the exception, because that wood inlay plaque and a few other things were the only souvenirs that I got. Well, I almost ended up with a $10,000 painting but fortunately I regained my sanity in time. Its really true how tourists will buy all kinds of stuff when they’re traveling that they normally wouldn’t buy at home… 😆Hmm…I haven’t checked out Selangor’s website for a long time. I’ll have to see what new stuff they have… 🙂
January 6, 2007 at 3:35 pm #520444I love traveling and buying stuff! Its fun when folks say, “Where did you get that?’ And istead of saying, “Wal-mart” or “Target” You can say, “Malasia!” So much cooler 😆
January 6, 2007 at 3:38 pm #520445That’s right! Plus you’re helping to stimulate the global economy (as good an excuse as any, huh)?
Hey, you should show some pics of stuff that you’ve picked up on your travels!

….stimulate the global economy….what an excuse!!! 😆 😆 😆
January 6, 2007 at 3:42 pm #520447Well…it does sound better than “I went crazy and bought everything in sight!” 🙂

Holy cow! I just looked at the website and all their stuff is a lot more expensive now! I guess the stuff they’re making now is more elaborate than the stuff that I got back in the early 90’s. But would you believe it — each of those plaques I have only cost me $12.50 at the time I got them.January 6, 2007 at 4:13 pm #520450Wow!!! Talk about inflation!!!! 😯
January 6, 2007 at 4:28 pm #520451No kidding — those things cost as much as Windstones now! 😯
Either the ones I have are a much cheaper type or their stuff has gotten a lot more popular… 😆
January 6, 2007 at 7:02 pm #520452I like your artwork Mimi. I like Whelan because of fantasy, but I like the other paintings because they change depending on the lighting.
I have checked out the website and I was wondering if you get discounts for working there.
January 7, 2007 at 6:58 pm #520453Thanks dragonness! Yeah, I like the lighting effect on the Kinkade paintings too. I have dimmer switches on all of the spotlights and its pretty neat to watch how they change with the light level.
But which website were you referring to? And working where? ❓ * confused *
January 7, 2007 at 7:27 pm #520454Sorry, I came in late, but WOW Mimi!!!! 😯 Those are some fabulous pieces of artwork! I could hang out at your home and just look around for hours.*Would occasionally need to be reminded to close my mouth* Between those and the Windstones, you must have a spectacular place to live! 😮
I only have a few nice framed pictures myself, but they are mostly Home Interiors kind of stuff.
Hey, do you decorate homes? Can you come and help me out with mine please?? 😀 If I ever get a new place (still looking), I would love to tell people that I had an interior decorator from California help me out!
P.S. Your picture is pretty much how I thought you and Harshy would look. Nice! What were you dressed for?
January 7, 2007 at 7:42 pm #520455I should have paid more attention to this thread. I love those plaques, Mimi, and the vase is really pretty too. Like Goldragon said, your interior is probably worth staring at!

Thanks! 😀 You’re welcome to visit if you come out this way…we could have lunch with the squirrels. 🙂 But I wish I had a big house like yours because I’m almost out of wall space now. Though compared to Ski’s place, my house looks Spartan…he he… Check out Ski’s photos in the other thread if you haven’t already…

Hey, you should post some pics of your stuff too! It looks like this thread has turned into the place for people to post pics of their wall decorations.

Awww…that’s really flattering. To be honest, I don’t know much about decorating, but I’m always glad to give inputs! Actually, Frozendragon’s probably a lot more knowledgable than me — in addition to his PYO painting skills, he’s studying to be an interior designer. You might want to bounce some ideas off of him too…

Ah, your telepathy is working pretty well. 🙂 By the way, we have this thread where a lot of forum members posted their pictures so you can see what people look like. You should post your pic there too!

Thanks! We were going to a friend’s Halloween party. That picture was taken a couple of years ago.
