Mimi, you ever manage to get some pics of your walls?

Not yet…I’ve been completely swamped with work this whole week….sigh…

But I’m going to try again this weekend. Hopefully I can get some decent ones this time by taking them at an angle as you suggested.
Hey, it worked! I took the pictures at an angle and they came out OK. There’s too much stuff on the walls, so I just took pictures of some of my favorites — its a mixture of paintings and other wall decorations. I mainly like science fiction/fantasy and landscape type stuff.

Here are some paintings by Michael Whelan, my favorite artist:

some landscape paintings by Thomas Kinkade :

    some pewter plaques from Malaysia:

    a vase from Japan:

a wood inlay plaque from Kauai:

    and my swords:

      I love Whelan’s stuff. He’s very good!

(Not so thrilled about Kinkade, but to each their own, and all that.)

Yeah, some people don’t like Kinkade. His art isn’t in the same league as Whelan’s in terms of artistic creativity, but I like it because its peaceful and soothing, and the light effects are really neat — the lighted areas seem to glow as you dim the lights.

I love the landscapes! They are beautiful! Im not much for fantasy pics but they are framed well and look nice.

          Beautiful selection!

          Thanks guys!

Ski — I’m glad you liked the frames. Those were my first attempt at framing my own pictures. 😀

WOW! Yo udid those? Very nice!

Thanks! Yeah, I figured I’d give it a try because I had about 10 Michael Whelan pictures to do at the time, and to get them done professionally would’ve cost more than buying all the materials and equipment myself. So I thought if I got the equipment, then in the future I could frame more pictures myself if I needed to.

But it turned out to be really time consuming because I didn’t know what the heck I was doing, and had to experiment quite a bit. And I didn’t have the space to keep the equipment out, so I had to pack it all up all after I was done. I’ve unpacked everything on a couple of other occasions to do some more framing, but its such a hassle and takes so much time that I would probably just get the framing store to do it if I got more pictures in the future…unless I suddenly got rich and was able to get a big house and had the space to leave the equipment out. So doing the framing myself turned out to be kind of a crazy idea. 🙂

Framing is really pricey. My 1SG does some with the matting and everything. I know it takes him forever, and the supplies are not too cheap either.

Yeah, picture framing is really time consuming. But the supplies are expensive at the framing store store because they typically charge several times the wholesale cost (yeah, they have to eat too). This might sound a bit crazy…but at the time I actually got a business license so that I could buy all of the equipment and materials at wholesale cost directly from the supplier instead of from the framing store, and so that I could get the mat cutter and glass cutter that I wanted (those were only being sold to businesses). The good thing is that where I lived they only charged $25 for the business license for the first year, so it was totally worth it.

Does “1SG” = boyfriend? Its nice that he’s into pictures and picture framing. Did he do some for you?

Mimi, I love your collection. Those are some nice Michael Whelan’s and I love the pewter plaques from Malaysia. How did you get those? Have you been there?

Oh no. 1SG=First Sergeant. He is the head honcho for enlisted (As opposed to officers) in our company. He has lots of hobbies, and framing is one of them. He is really good, from what I have seen.

Ha! Ha! We have way too many anacronyms (sp) to keep track of… 😆

Thanks Star! Yes, I got the pewter plaques a long time ago when I was there on business (my company has a plant there). Selangor Pewter, which is pretty famous for pewter, is based in Malaysia and they had a store in the shopping center right next to my hotel. So I picked up a lot of stuff from that store while I was there ended up with half a suitcase full of pewter! I’m glad I got the stuff I did though, because it looks like they don’t make most of it anymore.

By the way, I also got the vase when I was over in Japan on business. As it turns out, the city where the plant is located is known for its lacquerware, and that vase is an example of the local craftsmanship.

That’s for sure! I thought it meant “#1 significant guy”. 😆
