No plans to get married right now, no kids, 1 PYO! 🙂 I met my boyfriend ~4 years ago (hey, you found our picture!). My only PYO so far is Nam’s banded griffin. I really want to get some more PYO’s — still need to get a wolf and a dragon — but of course they’ll have to be painted by someone else since I’m not artistic at all. But first I need to get shelves because I’m almost out of space!
What else am I into? I like fantasy (Anne McCaffrey, Katherine Kurtz, Terry Goodkind, etc.) and I love the new Battlestar Galactica. Its probably my all time favorite TV show. I like cooking (and especially baking) but it seems like I can never find much time to do it. I love Indian food, and I have some really good cookbooks with a lot of recipes that I want to try out. Hmm…if I didn’t have to work I think my boyfriend would weigh 300 pounds pretty soon. 😆 I like animals of all kinds, but aside from squirrels, my other favorites would be dogs (large ones) and horses. I used to be horse crazy as a kid but never got a chance to learn how to ride until I was an adult. But horses take too much time (and they’re very expensive) so I just admire them from afar now. I also like gardening, but it seems like I never have enough time to work on it as much as I’d like. Oh…I can get very addicted to computer games (my latest addiction is Civilization). My boyfriend’s been trying to get me addicted to World of Warcraft but I’ve been able to resist so far…
Personality wise I’m very systematic and organized (probably to the point of being somewhat OCD) and I tend to research a lot before I do something. I like to plan everything (probably overplan a lot of the time). Work gets to me a lot more than I’d like. I definitely wish I could deal with stress better! And I’m definitely a saver…except when it comes to Windstones. 😀
So that’s me in a nutshell (he he)…tell me about yourself too!
My brother is trying to get me into WoW, too. Maybe we should try it… NAH! Sounds like you have enough on your plate already. I dont remember, so I will ask again…how old are you? I cant find the age thread…though I didnt look for too long. You said gardening…plants or vegetables? Just curious. And speaking of work…are you doing what you love, or is this just something to tide you over? Are you in college, or already graduated? What do you want to be when you grow up? 😆
I like my job, but want to do something more meaningful than working on a machine 😕 its fun for now, though. 7 more years and I can retire…to find my second job and work on my second retirement. It will be something involving people, though.

I mainly like ornamental plants, like camellias and hostas. I’ve thought about trying to grow some herbs too, but I’m not sure if they would survive the squirrels. Then again, the squirrels aren’t really into veggies or fruit so I might be OK. Hmm…but they do like digging an awful lot… 😕

I graduated from college long, long ago (electrical engineering) and I’ve been in the semiconductor industry ever since, doing technology/product development. So yeah…I guess you could say that this is an established career. 🙂 There are some aspects that I like a lot (e.g., problem solving) but there are some aspects that I hate (e.g., the stress from dealing with jerks).

That must be really nice. A couple that I’m friends with are in the Coast Guard, and I get jealous when they tell me about this. 🙂 The guy is going to retire in a couple of years (he already has 25+ years) and he said that he wanted to be a high school teacher for his second job. His wife is ~12 years younger than him though, and she’s very career oriented…she wants to have her own ship eventually…so she might stay in the Coast Guard forever… I certainly wouldn’t mind being retired! But it looks like that’s a long ways off given how expensive houses are around here…

Well, right now I work on Helicopters, which is fun and I must say, it is a cooool job, but its not what I want to do when I get out. My degree is gonna be in General Studies. I just want to get that degree! I am the only one in my family to graduate H.S. and I really want to keep going. I took a 10 year break from school, but it is never too late to get educated! I am soooo close but the math class stands in my way. I hate math 🙁 I will pick more specific classes after I get the basics out of the way. I will retire at 37, and I should be able to get whatever degree I need to be a social services person by then. Or I could just get a hunting license and be a vigilante killer of child abusers. That would be more fulfilling but a bit more hazardous 😕
I like that second option, Ski! How do you apply for that license? Or don’t they discriminate between wild boars and child abusers?

Definitely an idea that has merit…but its probably not allowed. 😆 Its great that you went back to school. By the way, which math class is the one that you still need to get through? Anyway, it sounds like you have a good plan to be prepared for your 2nd career.
So what other things do you like? Have you always liked art and painting? I was also kind of curious — how did you and your boyfriend meet, and how long have you been together?
Well, I have never really been into art, though I can look at a painting and tell you if I like it or not. My character does not contain enough depth to be able to talk intelligently about art (as you see so often on TV.) I just started painting when the griffins came out, and it is just for fun. I hope to get better, but I dont see myself getting as good as Arlla or Drag0n. 😕 As for math…Im gonna take the easiest one that I can get credit for. My man, who I have been with for a little over a year now, has volunteered to tutor me! YAY! Hopefully I do well enough on the placement test to not have to take a refresher class. We met at work. We both have the same job, which is nice when it comes to talking about work.
So, have you and your man discussed marriage and kids? Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Are you into art?
I think you have talent — your latest PYO’s are really good, and I can see a big improvement from your first ones. So you just need more practice! 🙂

I found my boyfriend on an internet dating service…we probably never would have met otherwise though he works at a company just down the street from mine. And you’re right, it is nice being in the same line of work (my boyfriend’s in engineering too). We did talk about marriage and kids really early on. We don’t plan to have kids, and both of us feel like there’s no difference between being married and living together like we are now, so we’re not in any hurry to get married. Plus, there’s a big tax penalty once you get married. How about you? Have you and your boyfriend talked about this stuff?
If I’m lucky, 5 years from now I’ll be a lot thinner and will finally lost those 20 pounds that I’ve been trying to lose for years! But aside from that…I think I’ll be more advanced in my career and I’ll have more Windstones, but everything else will be about the same. Do you have any changes planned? Do you think you’ll be done with your education for the social services work by then?
I’ve never been artistic, and I don’t know that much about art, but I’ve always liked good artwork. Michael Whelan is one of my favorite graphic artists. I like Vantid’s and Nam’s stuff art a lot, but at this point I’m almost out of wall space…I need a bigger house. 🙂 Do you have a lot of pictures on your walls too?
Mimi, this is 100% off-topic, but I wanted to let you know something you’d get a real kick out of! My hometown of Olean, NY is somewhat noted for having a large population of squirrels… a huge percentage of them are black squirrels. So to celebrate, a sculptor is sculpting a huge squirrel and having it reproduced for local artisans to paint and decorate, then they will decorate the city with them. I think it’s really silly personally, but I knew you’d get a kick out of it! 😀

Now that is great! I hear alot of people hooking up through the internet. I think its a great idea…you just have to worry about the predators out there, but obviously you got a good one. And isn’t it nice yo come home and talk about things and not get the blank stare???

Yeah! I hear you on the tax penalty. When I got married, all of the sudden I got way less money if I filed separately, and I could no longer claim my childs daycare! What kinda crap was that??

Me and my man have talked about kids, but not so much marriage. I think/hope he wants to marry me…esp if he wants to have a baby w/me! He has not asked me yet. Those are the only changes I have planned. Marriage and a kid or two 😀 And 5 yrs closer to retirement!! YAY!! And yes, I have quite a few pics on my wall. A few horse heads I commisioned and an oil painting by Antonio Devitty. Its a paris street scene, I think…Maybe Italy…Bleh..its on he back of the painting. I love it.

Exactly! Plus then they’re also familiar with the problems and frustrations. He can give some good feedback when I discuss things with him and we both understand about long hours…yuck…actually, his hours have been worse than mine lately. About the Internet dating, you do have to be careful but that’s really getting popular. Several couples that I’m friends with (all married with kids now) met thru the Internet too.

I guess the government knows that the tax penalty is unfair but too much in taxes is coming from that now, so they can’t get rid of it without raising taxes on something else. I don’t understand about the childcare though. Why wouldn’t you be able to claim it if you’re married? That doesn’t seem to make much sense. And its true that most women are married and/or have kids in their 30’s. All of my women friends are married, and all except for two had their kids in their late 20’s or early/mid 30’s. Those two also don’t plan to have kids.

That’s great, it sounds like you two are pretty serious! But you guys have only been going out for a year, so he probably needs some more time. I sure wish I could say the same about the retirement! 🙂 Hey, I’d love to see your paintings. Do you have any pics?
