November 17, 2006 at 1:57 am #509662Just silently biding your time until the last few seconds of an auction and outbidding the high bidder with just enough time for you to win and nobody else to bid over you. It’s fun sometimes to try your skills against others =)

Dreamscape, Orion, Poison Dart, Fireberry, Spangler + Tigerberry DragonsNovember 17, 2006 at 2:09 am #509663Never has worked for me. I’m always at work when the auctions close.
November 17, 2006 at 2:20 am #509664Sniping sort of works. Although I cannot compete with those sniping websites. Especially with like 3 seconds left in an auction.
November 17, 2006 at 2:28 am #509665I don’t find sniping all that effective personally, since I’m usually not willing to pay as much for the item as the final winner usually does. Last few auctions I participated in the last seconds, my “sniping” bid wasn’t even remotely as high as the winner’s maximum bid, so basically, I just wasted my time making sure I was available at auction close. Well, I guess I did drive the price up, but otherwise, it was a waste of my time.
I only bid what I’m willing to pay (and can afford to pay, which isn’t much), never a penny more, so if someone “snipes” from me, even if it is only one bid increment of $1.00, it is still more than I’m willing to pay and they can have it.
Edit: Although, Windstone buyers tend to have high maximum bids. I have been successful on last second bidding on other things on Ebay.
November 17, 2006 at 2:34 am #509666lol.. I jut sniped myself a little Brown Hatching.. the other persons maximum bid was 30. itwas at 26 so with less then 5 mins less I put in 30.01 causeif I put in 30.00 it wouldv’e went to the other person. So I put n the extraPenny.. and viola I won it!!!
lol.. that was my best snipeing ever.
November 17, 2006 at 2:36 am #509667Well, part of the point of sniping is that it doesn’t drive up the bid early. I snipe quite a bit, and it does often work for me.

It doesn’t matter if the the price wasn’t driven up beforehand. If the only other person (or the current high bidder)is willing to pay more for something than me (and therefore has a higher maximum bid, and they usually do since I’m usually bidding to get a deal, not to blow my savings away), my last minute sniping is uneffective at winning the auction.
I’m glad you are successful at it. I don’t think I have the money to be a viable “sniper”. Also, I must go for auctions that many other people are also interested in. Last few auctions I was attempting to “snipe”, there was usually at least 2 other people “sniping” at the same time as me.
November 17, 2006 at 3:08 am #509669Well, I don’t ALWAYS win when I snipe, but I definately raise me chances for a 20/80 to more like a 50/50 shot.
I’ve never used those sniping sites before though. How do they worK???

You let them know what your highest bid is then they will snipe for you, with like 3 seconds left, but I know that ebay doesn’t like them and you can get your account suspended for useing them.
