Congrats! Can I move in with you? Too many people like shooting things in my area for comfort….. 😕 😆
Shooting things? 😯
Yes. Like, cars across the street from my house (empty ones to boot. Not the best way to vandalize). And then there’s the small matter of the cop shooting a kid who was riding in his direction on a bicycle… I hate this neighborhood.
November 25, 2008 at 11:12 pm #742529AnonymousAt least a contractor didn’t try to burn your building down on the weekend.
November 25, 2008 at 11:43 pm #742530I’m afraid to ask… 😮

Mmmmmmmmmmm crispy Snapdragon. All I’ve burned recently is my nostrils.

EEP! Where do you live so I know never to vacation there. What’s with people?
November 26, 2008 at 1:46 am #742534AnonymousAh it’s not the city (Edmonton), it’s just specific neighborhoods. Every city has them. The bad areas of Edmonton are Claireview, Millwoods, some areas of Strathcona, 118 Avenue between 97st and 50st, etc.
The City is really pushing new development in the older areas with trouble and the problems are somewhat disappearing. A lot of the issues were initally caused by poor licence planners who decided that:
– It’s OK to put twenty bars on one street (aka Whyte Avenue)
– It’s OK to put ten pawn shops, five payday loan outfits and two liquor stores in a five block stretch (aka 118 avenue between 96 st and 82 st) *I am not exagerating, those numbers are probably actually low*
– It’s OK to cut community police funding in an area that is known for lots of drug activity because the area at one time was mostly wealthy yuppies who lived on the ‘burbs and now spawned kids that they don’t pay attention to so they drive their cars through the parks and deal (aka Claireview)
– It’s OK to cut police funding in the area with the most gang activity (aka Millwoods)
– It’s OK to have the biggest mall in the world built on swampland where there is no proper commuter traffic ways, then expand the city south…Yeah… anyways..I could go on. But all that aside, I wouldn’t live in any other Canadian city. We have a wicked park trail system, miles of paths, beautiful river valley, tourist attractions (NOT the mall) like the Conservatory, the Radial Railway Society, Valley Zoo, etc. etc. It’s a great place to visit on the way to Alaska. There are several companies here that call Edmonton home like Intuit (Quicken, Quickbooks, Quicktax, etc.) that are awesome employers.
That, and it’s not that big. Less than 700,000 still. Nice suburbs, tons of farmland. HUNDREDS of places to get away to within two-three hours including Banff and Jasper in the mountains.
Holy crap, I talk too much. The first sentence was enough I think.
November 26, 2008 at 7:01 pm #742535Snap, I live on 34th and 118th. Rundle park isn’t that great a place in Edmonton either. I’ve seen more drug dealers here then I want to mention. And yes you are underestimating the pawn shops. LOTS of pawn shops. And cash stores. They’re the only businesses doing well it seems….. haha Other then Coliseum (home of the oilers) I suppose… they’re doing pretty well I hear! LOL
ariankentara, if it makes you feel any better, if you visit me I’m on a 4th floor balcony (generally safe from stray bullets and such)… lol
November 26, 2008 at 8:56 pm #742536AnonymousYeah, I guess 118 doesn’t stop at 50 street.. the crap continues until you hit Sherwood Park.
November 26, 2008 at 11:09 pm #742537It continues after it turns into Victoria Trail??????? 😮 That’s too scary to comprehend. I thought it just stopped at Victoria Trail….
November 27, 2008 at 12:44 am #742538AnonymousNo.. but I said earlier the bad part stops at 50st. There is still more 118ave between 50st and where it curves past Rundle Park into Vic Trail.
Not much, but some.
Strathcona County boundary isn’t far past Vic Trail.

OH NOES!!!! A boundary! Where I grew up there wasn’t a boundary for miles! Whatever will I do! *comes across a boundary, skitters around it for awhile, then decides to cross*
Well… that wasn’t so bad….
I blame this on the sugar rush….
