I LOVE the Peg is it Ivory??
Nope. It’s too shiny to be ivory. Looks to be stone, jade specifically. The dragon in the background looks to be jade (I have a large bear in jade, about the same shade too). Is the entire scuplture jade, just different colors?
March 13, 2008 at 11:56 pm #653760It could be a candle. Looks sort of like one.
March 13, 2008 at 11:58 pm #653761Nice collection guys! 😀

Jade is VERY nice too

It’s a stone piece. I think parts of it are jade, but I can’t be sure as it it coated in a lacquer that is very shiney. It’s heavy as all get out and the pegasus’ off side wing has had the tip of it broken off. Let me tell you it was interesting transporting that sucker! For a while I had it on top of my computer desk (about 7-8 feet up) and I still don’t know how I got the bugger up there. 😆 When we moved it has been stored lower down.My husband and I bought it several years ago at a shop in on of the Pensacola malls (the mall that has the Tinder Box that used to carry Windstones – they were discontinuing carry them due to the competition from Windstone’s online store).
The Chinese (I think) characters are (sorry for misspellings) “Lung ma chi soon” which means “The spirit of the dragon and horse combined give you ooomph” according to the people at the store. The didn’t speak the best English. If anyone knows correct English spellings and/or translation please let me know. Unfortunately I can’t provide a close up on the characters until I get back home Monday. night.
March 14, 2008 at 7:00 pm #653764Very cool! How about the orange one? Is it orange calcite? Egyptian marble?

🙁 But Windstone’s online store isn’t competing with their physical store retailers.

As Emerald said that is the theory. He told me they were having problems with people coming in and looking at pieces and then going online to order them. I hate the fact that they aren’t carrying Windstones anymore once they sell their last two Wizards. Now they carry the cheapie dragons that are all $50 and under. *Gags* They used to carry them before, but not in as large a quantity as they do now.

Are you talking about the orange bit on my statue? If you are, I honestly have no idea what the different stones it is made of.

I don’t understand. Why would customers look at something tangible, then go an order them online and have to pay shipping?? I’d far, far prefer to buy the item in my hands that I can inspect and feel than buy it online if possible (especially since I’d have to pay shipping online and there is a risk of lost/broken items in the mail).
If they are set on going online to buy the items, they would have been doing so even if Windstone did not have an online store- they simply would have purchased from another online seller. I suspect that like so many gift shops, their sales were probably low regardless of Windstone’s online presence and that influenced their decision to stop carrying. It’s just easier to ‘blame’ someone and point a finger than to admit that the economy is poor for selling high dollar collectibles in recent years. 🙁 I will openly admit that for the sale of my artwork (non-Windstone) the last few years have been very, very hard.Dave said it better than I can:

I think you are missing the point, here.
The territorial protection is for Brick and Mortar stores. Windstone is not competing with you for your local customers. Any of your local collectors who are buying direct from Windstone would not be buying from you if Windstone didn’t have an on-line retail store; they’d be buying from some other on-line retailer, either because they don’t know you exist, or they prefer to shop from home. Quite simply, those are not your customers and Windstone is not stealing them from you.

I don’t get that, either. *scratches head* And then you also have to take into account the thrill of carrying that precious bag around the rest of the shopping trip with you, knowing what you have and feeling that little thrill of accomplishment… Don’t know if anyone else gets that feeling, but I sure do 😉 I don’t like ordering anything online that I can find reasonably easy/cheap and reasonably close to home. The day I bought my BG emp Vulcan at the mall in Colorado… happiest shopping trip of my life 😆
March 15, 2008 at 3:38 am #653771Man, if I could get those two silly old guys over at Tobacco Lane to buy some more Windstones, I’d definitely shop there over online (no offense, online store! You still have me for curlies and Poads, and whatever I couldn’t get at a brick&mortar). Not just because I think it’s only right to give your local businesses, well, business, but because I would *love* to be able to SEE them first. They’ve got such a mountain of random figurines, I don’t know if they could fit a full line in there, though. XD
Which reminds me. They have a bunch of those little booklets. It’s the one with the Peacock Emperor on the front. Anyone want one?

I’d love one. My relatives (without computers/the internet) always ask me what I do as a job and I’d love to be able to show them the booklet! Only if it’s no trouble for you though.
