Not trying to scare you, but if they haven’t shipped your items yet, I would contact them and explain in detail exactly how you want the dragons packaged for shipping. I’ve heard so many people here, who had assumed a seller would know how to pack, end up with broken pieces because of bad packaging… I never take a chance anymore, even before I bid on an item, I always ask the seller if they will agree to ship according to my specifications and never had a problem yet.
January 13, 2007 at 3:13 am #523698The shipping cost doesnt include tax or customs, and I KNOW I’m going to get nailed there. I contacted that seller and everything is going to be double boxed and packed carefully.
January 13, 2007 at 3:37 am #523699Good luck
January 13, 2007 at 3:51 am #523700Thanks…I’m guessing I’m going to need it 😕
January 13, 2007 at 4:00 am #523701it sounds like you may at least need some. I got my latest Windstone from e-bay today and it was in the original box with foam wrapped around it instead of cardboard inserts and double boxed with peanuts so there are some out there tha know how to package them. I truly hope you found one of those
January 13, 2007 at 7:29 am #523702Congrats, Ash! Glad they went to a forum member! Be careful of the Emperor. Make sure he is wrapped best of all! I own two, and they both broke in the mail. One was even shipped in his Windstone original box. His tail and ankles are very weak and that’s the part of him that will break. Ask the seller to stuff newspaper or bathroom tissue in the loop of his tail. That way what ever is stuffed there will absorb the shock too if it gets dropped, and the tail won’t take 100% of the force!
January 13, 2007 at 7:43 am #523703that is strange I have all 8 Emperors and not one broken tail 6 where shipped and 2 I picked up in the store.

If this is UPS, as soon as you get the tracking number, call UPS and tell them exactly how you are going to be paying for the customs/brokerage, and tell them that the goods are USA made and not subject to duty.
Edit *UPS could ask for proof of country of origin, at which point it would be up to the seller to provide paperwork to the effect of where they purchased the items originally, but normally they won’t be too anal when it’s coming as a personal shipment. What I originally said about NAFTA only applies to commerical to commerical shipments on new product, so ignore that.
Otherwise you risk your box sitting in customs without a brokerage attached to it. It’ll come in, float around for a day or two, then they’ll call you, then assign themselves as the broker, then it’ll float around again… so be proactive.
January 13, 2007 at 8:38 am #523705I wish we did not have to go thru all these hoops. Now to get to Canada or Mexico you have to have a passport also

Is that how you get away from brokerage fees, I never knew that. Thanks for the tip. I just prefer not to deal with them at all.January 13, 2007 at 3:56 pm #523707Snapdragon wrote:AsH wrote:The shipping cost doesnt include tax or customs, and I KNOW I’m going to get nailed there. Are duties the same thing as taxes? Because I have been paying GST and PST on everything that I order from the US…

is it not subeject to duty because of free trade?? and how do I get a NAFTA statement to prove that..to be honest this is totally over my head 😕
January 15, 2007 at 8:16 pm #523709AnonymousRe-read my edited post.
And yes, because Windstones are made in the US, they are duty free into Canada, but the procedures are different when it’s Windstone selling to a dealer vs. you buying it privately. A private sale should only need the country of origin filled out on the shipment to be sent duty free. They may or may not ask for proof, at which point the seller has to cough up something to the effect of where they purchased the items.
You will always have to pay a BROKERAGE fee and the related GST/HST. You cannot get around those.
January 16, 2007 at 12:02 am #523710I’m so glad I live 5 -6 hours from the wharehouse
