I’m so sorry, Ski. Rab is such a nice dog; it’s hard to think of him being in pain. Hugs to you, and please keep us updated. 😥

Sweetie, I don’t see the point in spending huge amounts of money just to find out the whys, since it really won’t change his situation. If you really want to know, you could have a necropsy done after he passes, but most likely all it will tell you is that his liver is diseased, and you know that already.

I would just make him as comfortable as you can, love on him lots and be prepared to assist his passing when the time comes. I am so sorry. *hugs* I wish there could be a different outcome, but even if his liver wasn’t sick, he is very elderly and time isn’t on his side. It sucks though, I agree.

I still miss my horse and dogs that I have lost to old age, and I know my time is running out with my cat Zinc. He is already 18 years old, so it will be my turn next to rail at mother nature and her short life spans for our furry friends soon enough.

Much love to you and your family, try to enjoy Rab for as long as you can. *hugs*

Oh, Ski, I’m so sorry! I would make him comfortable too. Going to the vet and having all these tests done, especially if they’re not going to help, will just stress the poor guy out.

      Big hugs!

My heart goes out to you Ski. I’ve had to go thru this too, and you’re right, it sucks. I think the others are right at this point about more tests. I hope that doesn’t sound harsh or insensitive, it’s not meant to. Make him comforatable and love on him while you can and be ready to let him go when it’s time. Hugs and prayers for both of you.

I’m so sorry, Ski. I agree with what Kyrin and the others have said. Spending lots of money on tests that won’t save him is a waste. Just love him up and get yourself ready. Sometimes you just can’t save them. Know that we are here for you.

I agree with kyrin and em hon…if it cant save him, or make him more comfortable, I think he’d be better off spending his last days being fed treats and petted, rather than having tests run. I’m so sorry for what you’re going through, hang in there and give Rab a hug from me.

Also with Kyrin and Em, and were you a client in my clinic, this is what I would tell you.

It’s up to you to decide if you want to know that badly, but if you don’t have $1300 to waste to just satisfy curiosity’s sake, I wouldn’t. If the vet thought that they would find something treatable, then perhaps, but not to find out what it is that’s going take him away, it won’t change anything, you’ll not only be heartbroken, but you’ll be broke too.

My shepherd is 12, and even though she’s in good health now, I know that our time together will soon draw to a close too. I dread it.

I wish you all the grace you need in making and dealing with the decisions you make for Rab. Know that whatever you do, even if you have to make that final decision, it will be the right thing, because he’s your pooch, and you know what’s best for him.

                    Sorry about Rab Ski,

my opinion is this.. we had a cat that had the same kind of symptoms.. she did eat and she would seem fine.. her equilibrium was off one day and she just wanted to sit outside in the sun and do nothing else.. we took her to the vet and they found a lump and did the biopsy and that actually made her worse and she passed 2 days later..

I would pass on the biopsy and make him comfortable and happy for as long as possible..

and I agree.. it really sucks..

I’m so sorry, ski 😥 It’s very hard when we have to let our fur babies go. I agree with making Rab as comfy as possible and enjoying time with him as much as possible. Hugs and snurggles for you, Rab and your family.
