Poor Rab (My 8 yr old Rott) has stopped eating. At first it was just his dry food so I switched. Nothing. I mixed wet with dry and that worked for a day or so but not long enough to make a difference. Today he just licked the wet food off the dry. I went out and bought a couple cans of wet food and he ate those, but he has lost so much weight. I think he has dropped about 12 lbs. He was already slim (perfect, according to our vet)because the vet told me to keep him thin because of his displaysia. Im expecting Animal Cops to come busting thru my door any minute. And he and Moocah got in a FIGHT last night!!!!! Not one battle in almost 9 years, and last night, out of nowhere, then just jump up and start going at it. One command and they separated and have been fine since, but geez where did that come from??? I am gonna keep trying the wet food but if I cant get some weight back on him quick, we’ll be visiting the vet. Im wondering about lung fluke and my mom mentioned cancer… I hope he is just being stubborn about his food… Im just worried. He was a pet shop puppy so im sure his bloodlines are not the greatest. 😕 Sorry I have been not myself lately but between this, the flooding, Christmas coming up, and moving an entire maintenance company, I have just been a little stressed.

Ski, You need to take him to the vet asap. Especially since he’s not acting normal. 🙁

I agree…..I’d worry it could be something that could affect him worse without attention… *hugs for Rab*

I agree, a dog not eating is not normal and at his age I would suspect pancreatitis, which needs medication to control and reverse. The longer you postpone it, the higher the chances it will be too advanced to arrest.

The not eating and weight loss are classic…get some blood tests done and get him on the mend. It is treatable, but not without help.

Sorry you are so stressed. Hopefully everything will go smoothly and the stressors will be reduced soon. *HUGS*

Let us know how it goes with Rab after he sees the vet.

Any pet not being themselves is difficult. And I won’t repeat everyone by saying take him to the vet (wait I just did…). But I do agree…

Hugs for Rabs! And virtual (sweet treat of choice inserted here) for you!

I hope everything is okay with Rab. Have you checked his teeth? Once Bubbas didn’t eat for 3 or 4 days and come to find out he had a loose tooth combined with enough pain to just make it too uncomfortable for him to eat. I’d take him to the vet ASAP. I’d also check to see if his stomach looks bloated. If it’s turned then thats very serious.

Oh no! Good luck with Rab! I’d take him to the vet. It might be something simple, like the suggested tooth, which is easy to rectify. If he’s ill or feeling under the weather, he’s probably cranky and Moocah just hit the wrong nerve, so to speak. Keep us posted!
