I’m sorry for your loss Arlla. It is never easy losing a pet like that because they are part of the family. I’ve been through it twice with 2 family dogs so far. it is a very difficult experience. I still can’t think about it without crying. So, I’m going to go off and dry my tears for a while and remember what great friends I had. I hope in time the hurt lessons for you and you can always remember the good times.

While hiding somewhere in my head I'm on the lookout for white oriental dragons! Please let me know if you know of any available. Thank you!

I’ve tried to reply before and something always happens. Weird. But, I’m sorry for your loss. It’s always difficult to put a pet down. I’ve done it countless times both as an owner and as a vet tech.

I have horror stories of people no matter how much you try to convince them otherwise, will put their perfectly healthy pet down, instead of seeing it go to another home. My nextdoor neighbor did that. She couldn’t look after her shih tzu anymore, and instead of finding her a home, she had the vet put her down.

But, if your pet is suffering than it’s better to put them down. My Wrinkles was nicknamed garbage pail, he would eat anything. Well, one year (he was 14, that’s old for a cocker.) he started to ignor food. It was the strangest thing, he was refusing to eat, and he was quite sick. He was also almost completely blind and deaf. We took him to the vet and told her it was time to put him down. She at first refused. Then she checked him over. He had lymphoma, all in all not that bad of a cancer, but, she had missed the warning signs blaming them on his teeth. By this time, the lymphoma had spread to just about every node. Couple that with his other problems, even she had to agree. He wouldn’t have lived that much longer even with treatment. She felt so guilty. She started to cry, even though we came with the intention of putting him down, it was still very hard.

I’d tell you about Smokey but, her tale is very much in the squeemish territory.

But, miss that vet so much. She was one of the best I’ve ever been to. Most vets, do almost nothing for the amount of money you pay. She did compete checkups, teeth cleanings with tools (For strangers my cat Smokey was a sweetheart, for us we couldn’t put our fingers in her mouth. She wouldn’t bite but, she would fight.), nails, ears, the whole lot.
