April 28, 2008 at 9:15 am #610369That seafoam color is lovely. Have my dragonsnails been shipped yet, purplecat? *so excited* π
April 28, 2008 at 11:09 am #610370pm’d you with details GB! Lemme know on my question!
Ah…for everybody else, I’ve had a really important development..and will have a slight pause in orders for a while. Here’s why. (cut and pasted from livejournal)
Well, we did the pour, and I was pretty pleased with both the new rubber and plaster..both work really well. I did find that the new plaster isnt quite as brittle, and the small bubble flaws can be scraped off easily when I do casting cleanup. Before, with the previous plaster, I would have to put alot of muscle into getting off just a tiny bead..and even then alot of times it would shatter off a portion of an eyeride or ear. I bent several tools as well on that stuff.
Well…anyway, I’m cleaning the flaws off of a Tonna dragonsnail..and I just keep going, scraping here, carving there, until nearly half her body is being resculpted….much more detailed and refined. The difference is incredible! The detail I can get into the plaster is tenfold of what I could with the sculpey…Woot! I’m hooked..boy was i using the wrong stuff before!
I plan on refining all of my pieces, and then chucking all the old molds. And I may discontinue a couple pieces as well. We’ll see what happens once I get started on this project. So for a little while, I wont be taking any new orders, unless it’s an order pending, or a piece I have in stock. The Tonna dragonsnail and feathercat will probably be the first available pieces once I get selling again, because they need less refining, plus I’m already 1/3 of the way through refining the Tonna. I’d say it will be a week, maybe two, til this project is done, and I’m selling much more detailed and polished sculpts. π π π
THis means much more detail in all my pieces for you guys, but a pause for now til I get this project done. The peices that have already sold, and are the unrefined sculptures, I’m gonna dub “old style” since this technique will change the overall look of my sculpting, giving it much more precision and detail. 8)
April 28, 2008 at 11:12 am #610371Ah…no worries if you have an order pending, I’ll either contact you, or I probably already have your order boxed and prepped! π π
Wow…I just looked at the first post on this thread…isnt it incredible I’ve only been sculpting for 8 months? it feels like longer..wow! π―
April 28, 2008 at 1:12 pm #610372Eight months already? Time flies. π
Thanks for the PM, purplecat. I’ll take “old style” – and put me on the list for a new style Tonna when they come out!April 28, 2008 at 2:32 pm #610373No problem! I’ll get them right out! π
April 28, 2008 at 2:33 pm #610374Cool! We’ll see which package reaches its destination first – the chocolate or the dragonsnails.
I’m gonna bet on the dragonsnails.April 28, 2008 at 2:34 pm #610375It’s really hard to predict sometimes, but let me know when your new pretties arrive. π I’m hungrily awaiting chocolate! π π
April 28, 2008 at 2:36 pm #610376Actually, it’s pretty easy to figure out which package gets where sooner. Packages from the States can reach me in as little as three work days. But my boxes get held up for two weeks or more.
April 28, 2008 at 2:37 pm #610377Do you know the reasons why it works that way? That seems really odd… π
April 28, 2008 at 3:54 pm #610378I think your sketches are adorable, purplecat:)
It should be very interesting to see the “old style” vs. the “new style” sculpts.

It is! π I have lots of cool shells scattered around the house on display…
April 28, 2008 at 9:52 pm #610380that is actually the type of shell I’m searching for a good specimen of for my next dragonsnail..but I have to be really picky on the shell specimen. π π

I don’t know. I know it’s not the Swiss postal service’s fault. I’ve tracked a couple packages I sent. As soon as the packages get to Newark or wherever, they just get put on hold. I don’t know why.
April 29, 2008 at 10:35 am #610382Odd….and frustrating as well…. π
