That fairy is cute, and all your detailing is impressive.
December 28, 2007 at 1:18 pm #610219I just use sculpey white. Easy to find and my favorite to work with. Not too expensive either. 😀

My sleeping fairy. I just pulled her out of the oven! She was still warm while I was taking the pics! 😀
December 28, 2007 at 10:11 pm #610221Oh, there’s a memorial on my site too… 😥 😥
December 29, 2007 at 12:59 am #610222I’m very sorry, purplecat… he was my favorite dragonsnail… 😥
December 29, 2007 at 1:05 am #610223Mine too….and I fought to get a reproduction of him too. 😥 But, I did learn an awful lot on the way. On a later note, the fairy is sooo cute in person! She’s actually slightly smaller than the curled dragon, I keep picking her up and holding her. I cant wait to paint some! Still working on the pour process. Hopefully we’ll have it conquered soon. The last batch was SOOO close, but it still had teeny pinhole bubbles. We’re almost there. 🙂
December 29, 2007 at 5:20 am #610224Sorry about the dragonsnail, purplecat. 🙁 But the fairy is very cute.
January 5, 2008 at 4:09 am #610225Hi Purplecat, I will be atempting to sculpt a bobcat with wings but I’ve never used sculpey before and might need your advice if you will give it. I don’t know how much to buy and how thick I can make it since from what I have read in your post, it must be cured.

January 5, 2008 at 3:11 pm #610226From what I’ve noticed you can use however much you want, just follow the box instructions. However, it’s REALLY important to remember it’s better to overcook your sculpt than to undercook. you just bake it in your oven at 275. The box will tell you how to figure how long to cook it. I always overguess on time. If undercooked, the center of your sculpt will be soft and the hard outer layers will develop a bunch of cracks as it cools. Sometimes for bigger pieces I’ll make a blob of aluminum foil to use as a base, to help me use less of my clay. 🙂
January 7, 2008 at 2:43 am #610227I received a painting on heavy stock paper in a PVC tube once, so unless the post office has grown even more anal, you should be able to use one to ship 2D artwork.
I saw your memorial 🙁 . Do you think you’ll try to remake the 1st dragonsnail? He was my favorite.
January 8, 2008 at 11:22 pm #610228I restarted the dragonsnails today. I’m gonna redesign them so they’ll be more casting friendly. The ears had to go, they were one of the biggest problems…I’m redesigning the wing style so they wont shatter during a demold. I also didn’t think they looked realistic enough, so I’m gonna work on making them more lifelike. Also making molds for some of the newer sculpts this week! The sleeping fairy and the sleeping mermaid are the ones I’m the most excited about. 😀
January 9, 2008 at 6:38 am #610229Very cool work Purple! I love watching you progress!
January 14, 2008 at 7:05 pm #610230I’m very glad you are re-sculpting the dragonsnails. They were my favorites, so far.
