oh griffiness! was this on the pacific ocean side? nere alaska? YOU got to see WILD Orca????
I want to take a trip this spring to see the wild orca when they follow the migrating whales!!!!
I am not fond of Tanks. I wish Shouka had a bigger tank at least~ i think her’s is WAY to small, but at the moment she is the only orca i can get to see….but I REALLY want to see the wild Orcas!
oh you got wonderfull photos of them!!!!!!!! they looks so amazing and those bulls are so big!!!
September 22, 2007 at 7:16 pm #601804oh! I forgot to add. how did your camera break? did it get salt water spray on it?
I want to take some ocean photos, so it would be good to know. I should get my camera cleaned. I love using it! it is such a wonderful camera. when I move up north i will get the opotunity to take some real wild life photos!!! and not caged animals.
also blackdesserwind, you have some stunning flower photos, that one with the bug is soooo perfect! I really love that one, and the snow field one.
September 22, 2007 at 7:57 pm #601805Well i think it was me being realy silly with it koishi, dad has a yacht and we uses a little boat to get to it and get off it. Well when we were coming into shore a small wave came over the side just a little and i think a bit of salt water got into the camera. but i didn’t tell them that so they just have me a new one. just be extra carefull.
I took the camera right into niagra falls and it got soaked but was fine! Just be carefull with sea water lol!Yep real orca it was sooooo magical. We were at vancouver Island and went out for a whale watching trip. The orca had been spotted in the morning but the people who had gone out before has had seen nothing. I was getting upset at this point and then a lady said don’t hold your breath i have been out three times and i have never seen anything.
Well we went out on a RIB and ended up in the path of two poads of Orca! it was unbeieveble!!!! You have just got to go i felt like crying, silly really. Well then after that we hit porposses? Thats the smaller black and white one and they were swimming along with the boat and then the guy tryed to find the hump back whale that were spotted two weeks ago and we landed right next to two of them!!
It was just uhh to amazing for words everyone really has to go they are so magical 😀
September 22, 2007 at 8:02 pm #601806I wanted a nice picture of the whales tail but you cant have everything! i’ll go back one day Vancouver is ALONG way from home!!
These are not very good pictures but its the memory i treasure and they show that!
and a dolphin in Vancouver aquarium
September 22, 2007 at 8:07 pm #601807ok, that is good to know. yeah, salt corrodes things real fast so a splash of sea water certainly would have done it.
we don’t have any resident Orca Pods here in central cal. but when the grey whales migrate north, the transient pod come into a local bay and…well..they eat the other whales……but that does not bother me. so I am going to try and find a charter that is small and will look for just the Orca wahles(as the other Charter boats are mostly for the big grey/humpback/and blue whales). I am really hoping to get to see a pod of them at least, and if i can get some photos of them feeding..that would be just amazing. (it id really sad to a lot of people that the orcas do this, but it does not phase me..it is just natural).
When i saw the porpoise picture i was actualy disappointed. I thought it was an orca, but then recognized it was the smaller mammal….but when i scrolled down and saw you had orca photos i squealed. that is soo cool. what an amazing experience!
next weekend I am driving all the way up the the washington/oregon boarder on the coast…so I will bring my camera and search for some great photograph oportunities.
September 22, 2007 at 8:10 pm #601808oh coool! the humbacks are SOOO huge! the only humpback i have ever seen is the mom and calf that came up the river and that was from the shore. I remember seeing the flukes and compared to the boat they were so huge!
I agree, even though they are not “great” photos, they captured the memotry, that is so cool. was there a lot of people there?
EDIT: here is an older photo(i think i took?) of my sister when we went hiking/sight seeing. I entered this one into a contest with the theme being “modern Zen”
September 23, 2007 at 1:04 am #601809Cool pics Griffiness, Be Careful 🙂 Those are great pics of flowers Blackdesertwind. The yellow and purple is my favorite.
September 23, 2007 at 1:24 am #601810Beautifull pictures Griffiness!
You are lucky to have seen the whales.
Thank you KoishiiKitty, glad you like them. I also like the picture of your sister it look great.
Here are more of bugs. Can you find the bug?
hummingbird moth
It was really difficult talking the ant into posing for me..asked her to pretend like she wanted to climb to the other leaf. Had to bribe her with a piece of fruit.

I watching ‘Blue Planet’ you may have herd of it over there? Its a BBC thing.
Anyhows i watched one on a poad of orca catching up with hump backs? and going for the baby i dont mind because as you say it is natural its how life works, everything lives off everything else but mum turned it off 🙄
The baby hump back escpaed i think anyway 8)I hope you get lots of lovely pictures Koishi, might be worth buying a tele lens so you can get in close if they are far aay in the sea.
Oh and yes following the orcas there were LOTs of boats crammed with people. I was on one of the faster ones and we went off by ourselfs away from the cround and found the porposses and humbacks 😀
Sometimes the orcas go down a little and then come up, well we went where we thought they were going to be and got right in their path eeek the guy in the rib was getting a little nervious! We were about 2 metres from them!

Poad! Aquatic, no less. 😀
September 23, 2007 at 3:02 pm #601817yesyes! I have seen blue planet! I like a lot of bbc things. that is what the orca do with the grey whales, they go after the calves…and it can be a very dramatic site. not a lot of city people understand it and think it is cruel instead.
Here are two of my Macro photos. I too need to get a Macro lens…going to have to save for that.
