Oscar the death predicting cat.
Creepy.
I can see why families would be grateful that they had the time to come in and say good bye.
But holy moses, I wouldn’t want that cat in my lap…
July 27, 2007 at 4:39 am #492088July 27, 2007 at 5:15 am #603683They had that story on our local news station today! I was going to post a link to the video but you beat me. It is creepy and also really interesting. However, if I was a resident at that nursing home, I’d run the other way every time I saw that cat coming near me.
July 27, 2007 at 9:07 am #603684That is really neat. I wonder what causes him to do that? And so flawlessly. I dont buy the witch theory… but the heightened senses I can believe.
July 27, 2007 at 11:32 am #603685I’m such a softy. I almost had tears in my eyes reading this.
Read my books! Volume 1 and 2 of A Dragon Medley are available now.

July 27, 2007 at 1:13 pm #603687Here’s a different version of the same story. One explaniation there is subtle changes in the way the person smells.
July 27, 2007 at 1:46 pm #603688Aww, what a cute kitty π I read this story a few days ago and think it’s really neat. I’ve also seen stories on Animal Planet about animals that can warn there humans before they have seizures, allowing them to get to a safe place in time.
July 27, 2007 at 2:19 pm #603689That’s pretty neat and kinda creepy, but not surprising as animals have more attuned senses than ours. I don’t buy into the spiritistic other world stuff though. I bet that freaks out families something terrible…I’m more inclined to believe he’s wanting to offer them comfort before they die. One of my cats hates being held and will only allow it when you’re either sick or about to get sick. A couple weeks ago she slept in my daughter’s lap right before she came down with a nasty stomach virus which hit almost everyone in the house.
July 27, 2007 at 3:47 pm #603690Cats are definitely something else when it comes to death and illnesses. In July of 2005, we had 9 cats running the rule of the house. By September, 2005, the month that my mom died, we were down to 4 cats. Where they went, or what happened to them, we don’t know. There wasn’t a sudden influx of coyotes or some reasonable explanation such as that, so it leads to other speculations.
Creepy indeed.July 27, 2007 at 3:51 pm #603691I sometimes think animals were created so much more in-tune with their environment to humble us and remind us that we’re not as smart as we think we are. Animals often know more about the world around us than we do. π I have a great respect for all creatures, we live in an amazing world…. π

Exactly! Perfect way to put it. π
July 27, 2007 at 4:55 pm #603693If anyone has been around someone who is in their last 24 hours of life from a long term illness there is definitely a change in their physical appearance and energy.
This cat is not creepy, but just picks up on it. It sits next to people because they are dying and is not the cause of it. So I would be more than happy to have this cat near me – poor thing, he just gets a bad wrap.
July 27, 2007 at 5:19 pm #603694My bf and room mate were talking about this cat the other day. The first thing I thought of is that the cat is just comforting people when they die. After I read this the first thing that came to my mind is that it is good that their family has a chance to say good bye and it was sad that the one time Oscar wasn’t able to be in the room with that one patient.

I totally agree.
