I usually always bid twice. I place bids on a few things, see which ones I lose, and then go back to the ones I REALLY want and place a higher bid (because I now know I have more money to spend on those). 🙂

Well I’ve gotten mad to have an item I was the highest bidder on disappear from right beneath my nose! 😡 Then I would look at the winning bid and believe me–I did not want to go that high! After I calm down and reason sets in I realize it would have been way too much money to pay for that particular item! If someone can afford that then more power to them! The problem lies when you place your maximum but insanity takes over in the last few seconds when it’s almost a battle between you and this unknow bidder. It can get the best of you and your pocket book.

I usually look at an item I would be interested in and place my bid the last day. That way if the item goes beyond my financial capabilities, then I don’t bother. But if it looks like it would be within my reach then I go for it–place I highest I can and would be willing to pay for that item and then walk away–have to because that maximum could easily be turned into thousands if I’m not careful! Won’t even look until it’s over and I get that ‘sorry loser’ or ‘congradulations you won’ notice in my email. Personally, I like ‘Buy It Now’ pieces–they are the only ones I know I can ‘win’.

Now I love Jen’s stuff but I could never afford one of her pieces on ebay so I don’t even bother. I get upset when I lose an item I was close to winning but I get over it rather quickly. After all it’s only a THING. I’m sure there was a forum member who snatched it from me so I’m happy they got it. Not going to get mad at our beloved forum members over a THING. So, if I win wonderful, if not, probably couldn’t afford it anyway! 🙂

I’m a sniper…I know that I am not disclipined enough to be in a bidding war in the end with back and forth bidding, and I could tend to go over what I intended to pay to try to win something. A sniper bid where I enter the Max I am willing to pay in the last few seconds, means I will have no time to enter another bid, if I win it, great, if I don’t, then it was not meant to be. I have usually found that something else comes around the corner for me anyway… 😀

Heck I do that. Guess I am a sniper. I just wait till the end to put the most I will pay. If the item gets to high for me I won’t even place a bid. With big items such as the special paints and such you never now how much they will go for or how badly a person wants them. I know I got carried away with the tiger griffins 😳

….It wasn’t you who got the Goth was it? 😉 I promise I’m happy for you if so!

No, I wasn’t bidding on it, I was on the forum, rooting you on! 😀

But honestly, I have never understood why so many people bid so early in an auction. I never bid at all until my max bid sniper bid–one bid, no time to try anything else. I have seen some Poads that have been at a pretty low price in the last 30 seconds, I have put my max bid on first page, clicked “place bid” and been taken to 2nd page, waiting till the last few seconds to hit “confirm bid”. Since I don’t see how the price radically changes in those last 30 seconds, my sniper bid has often been lower than the new current price, which I have not been aware of, fortunately, and I haven’t gotten that “adrenalin rush” to raise my bid that I had already put in. The only thing that happens, is when I hit “confirm bid”, I get some kind of error message that says something to the effect that my bid should actually be higher than the current bid, and then the auction is over! Then Kitsunelady wins! XD XD XD :spank:

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! I never got SO MAD in MY LIFE then when she sniped me out of like 5 or 6 auctions IN A ROW! I was so mad I thought my chest was going to explode as I ranted all over the forum about it! *sigh* Oh, the good ‘ole days!

I’ll admit, I will TRY to snipe sometimes, but my connection SUCKS so much, I don’t like chancing it and if I want something bad enough I’ll usually bid in the last minute or so. I guess it’s like sniping, but lots of people are alot faster then me. 😳

Well—WOOHOOWOOHOOWOOHOOWOOHOOWOOHOOWOOHOOWOOHOO! 😀 (Really needs an emotion icon that jumps up and down.) Well I won something tonight using my method of putting the highest I would pay, then walk away. Wouldn’t even sit in the last remaining seconds to watch it and if it went over, I couldn’t afford it! I WON THE SALMON PEARL LAP–I think I was lucky because that Kirin is still up and is now over $500—way above what I would want to pay–no telling how much it will go for–so it was probably a little diversion for me. So the second thing I ever won by bidding on a Windstone store piece! 😀

Sorry, didn’t mean to hijack but we were on the subject of bidding and such so sometimes, my simple method does work! 😀 😀 😈 [Hops around dancing like a fool but enjoying herself!] XD

Calculating the absolute highest I want to pay and bidding that amount sometime in the last hour and then walking away is my technique. It’s hard to keep a cool head, and I’m usually astonished when I win, but it’s sensible, even with those drawbacks. Snipers either run into the brick wall of little time combined with my reserve price, or pay more than I am willing to. So, it’s fair.

Of course since I calculate shipping into the amount I want to pay, that means my jaw really drops when I win. 😮

                #778201

Well, as I said, I know I am not disclipined enough, and I know I could get carried away, if I start entering multiple bids, so it is better for me to do it the way I do it. I have been pleasantly surprised at some wins I have had, it has been much lower than my “kill” bid sometimes. 😀

I tell you what, though, I have been to a couple of police auctions, and people there will bid on things that have been confiscated or found, I suppose, but they will get so carried away, just trying to WIN, that they will bid more than these items would cost BRAND NEW! Not only that, when it comes to the electronics, such as TV’s, we don’t even get to see them plugged in, to see if they actually work! After going to 2 of those, I decided to never attend any of them ever again! XD

Aieee! That’s scary! Funny, but scary. One thing that often works in live auctions is to ‘jump’ the bid amount by a large sum, instead of just the minimum. Several times doing that gets other bidders thinking, instead of bidding on autopilot. Assuming, of course, that the item is worth it. Live auctions can be worth it, except as you described, when they really, really aren’t. 😆

Watch them my roomie won’t like it. 😆 She loved the last green eyed Poad you won. If it had been later in the year I’d have had more funds to throw at it. 🙂 But I did manage to get 3 of those Poads away from you. Arla’s Poadakit, Westeria 3 and 4 I think.
