I don’t think gold plating can be applied to gypsum (correct me if I’m wrong) because of the process. Covering it in an enamel based metallic paint would be bad too since gypsum likes to breathe and the paint might just flake off eventually. Hmm! :/

My art: featherdust.comMaybe if you cast it in gypsum, you could paint it a more natural egg color, like the hatchers. Or even like the speckled eggs that sometimes show up in Ebay pieces. Model the ‘egg’ sculpt to be the same shape as the current golden eggs and instead she can be holding something a more natural color?

I was thinking about doing just that. Maybe sculpting it with cracks in it, like it is hatching. Hopefully though we will eventually get our pewter problem solved.

I like the hatching idea. I can visualize it in my head.

That’s a cool idea. Maybe make a limited production run of the special ‘stone egg’ ones (‘real egg’? ‘natural egg’?) till you have the pewter problems solved. I think that’d be neat!

Creepy, I had a dream last night that I’d found a Windstone dragon in a new pose; it was a mother dragon holding a hatching egg on her front paws. Only the store wouldn’t give it to me unless I found all the egg shard pieces…how obsessed am I if my dreams are even about Windstone dragons? 😕
LOL! It’s not only you LupusLunae! I dream about them too. My brain was working on me all night going “you want the serpentine curlie, you know you do…..oh and you also want the amethyst fledgie too……” So what do I do when I got up this morning…yep, gave in and ordered the above two dragons. All my resistance was in tatters. My poor bank account…. 🙄

Yes, both. There are almost no pewter casting places left in this country. I don’t think any of them could compete with imported pewter prices. John did find one company in Rhode Island. (Thats a long way to ship heavy stuff, but not as far as China!)
I am actually not sure who was responsible for our egg and horn rot problem; I don’t know if the same company both cast and plated our pewter since I wasn’t involved with this, but both processes were pretty screwed up. We discarded about half of some horn castings before we even used them, because of defects, then we find out years later that the plating was bad too!! argh.
So I am ranting again. Sorry. Feels good though.
THE GOOD NEWS is that we DO have enough Old Warrior horns to start casting them again, and we DO have a bag of good eggs that have been sorted, checked and given a nice coating of clear lacquer for good luck ( you can’t see it at all). We are starting to cast coiled mother dragons again.I’m really hoping for some violet flame Ows squeek* squeek* squeek* (sorry but i’m going to keep squeeking for these forever 😆 )
I’ll squeak with you Nicole squeek* Personally,I’d hope they are painted like the VF fledgie. I LOVE his colors! AND, um, didn’t we decide that the fledgie grows up to be the old warrior? 😳 They should match 😀
ditto wolfenmachine. I want them to look like the flegies too. Maybe a little bit different but i’d like them to be pretty close without interfering with melody giving him a unique spin if that’s what she was going to do. I just saw a picture of the violet flame prototype in the cafepress store and I liked his colors a lot. So something between him and the flegie would be really gorgeous I think
