Poor puppy! 😥 No offense meant, but why did you let out such a tiny dog when there was some unknown person/creature outside?
I hope he recovers fully and quicklyNovember 12, 2008 at 7:00 pm #740330Good Luck I hope he learned his lesson!!
November 12, 2008 at 7:08 pm #740331Very Definitely my prayers and concerns are with you. When my Tristen was very sick with the inverted stomach I think half the world was praying for him and I am sure that’s what helped him survive something the majority of dogs that happens to don’t so you can be sure my prayers are with you.

I hope he recovers fully and quicklyBecause they will bark at night sometimes and we’ll go out to look and there will be absolutely nothing out there…and that is usually the case, so everyone piles out, bark a few times, investigate to verify there is nothing, and then come back inside and are quiet.
If we don’t let them check themselves, they will bark their fool heads off for the next 30 mins. This is the first time in 2 years there has been anything out there that wasn’t supposed to be. Also my husband got everyone right back inside the house in less than 2 mins, this happened that fast.
He had thought he’d gotten everyone away from that other dog fast enough that no one got hurt, but he was wrong.

November 12, 2008 at 11:58 pm #740337Update:
Ein is still in the hospital doing his impression of a doggie balloon. He has no broken ribs, and his lung function is good, and both lungs are inflated. His kidney was bruised pretty badly as well, but it looks like it will recover.
They had to pull air out from under his skin twice today. Basically we’re hoping that in the next 48 hours the hole will seal itself, if it doesn’t then the next step would be exploratory surgery and if we reach that point we’re just not going to be able to afford it.
As it is, the expense just up to now is likely to be a bit more than we can afford. Adding up emergency care, xrays, IV fluids, oxygen, and pain meds, along with hospitalization and air drainage a few times a day, this ain’t gonna be cheap.
We also found out whose dog did this and informed the owners of what happened and they are taking steps to confine him. Since my girls are in heat, he’ll be down here again until they aren’t, and apparently they have been visiting him as well, so I guess from now on they don’t get to just go outside to do their business for short periods. Since they can’t stay home.
Anyway, likely Ein will be at the vet’s until Friday at the soonest he might get to come home, but at least he is still alive, that’s something.
I’ll keep you guys posted.

November 13, 2008 at 12:03 am #740338Just wondering, the people that own the other dog, are they willing to help you out with the bill?

Might be something to look into since their dog did hurt yours.

Not likely, they didn’t even offer, and I suspect they couldn’t afford it. Young mexican couple with about 3 kids, and he’s the only one working. So I’m not gonna ask, just want their damn dog confined so he doesn’t hurt mine again.
We’re going to have to see if we can manage to get the fence up around the lawn like we want, but it is just so expensive we’re not sure if we can anytime soon, but we’re going to try.

November 13, 2008 at 2:46 am #740341Oh, I really hope you can afford it! What wioll happen if you can’t? Will he be put down? I hope not. 🙁

Well we are definately going to give him all the time we can, and if it doesn’t seal in 48 hours we will likely just see about bringing him home and giving him a bit more time, and pulling air out as needed until it does. But we’re optimistic at this moment that he will be okay.
After all, he made it this far! I really thought we were gonna lose him last night when I realized his lung was compromised. Scared me to death, just the fact he made it through the shock and the night and was reasonably animated when I visited him gives me hope he will pull through this just fine. Then he’s getting neutered!
If worse comes to worse though, we would consider euthanizing him, just because not being able to breathe or run and play, etc would be a cruel fate for him. And we simply can’t afford the specialist vet to do the surgery, and no surgery would then mean that would be his lot, and that is just not fair to him.
We are pretty hopeful that it won’t come to that. He’s young and healthy, and I really don’t see any reason why this won’t close on its own, it may just take a bit of time…vet is saying it should seal within 2 days, but if it takes a week, we’ll give him that long before we make any decisions.

It’s seems like Ein is faring better, though! Hopefully it continues to go well. I’m saying a little prayer for the guy.
