Entimology, Herpetology, I grew up around this stuff and it is SO much fun to go to a pond and see how MANY diverse critters are in the ecosystem, it’s even more fun to try and catch them! =P

actually, I love frogs, toads, lizards, butterflies, moths, spiders, etc. myself…even snakes aren’t too bad as long as they don’t come too close…. πŸ˜†

Snake is on the 2nd page.

I had 8 toads at one time and some Gray’s tree frogs that I caught in Wisconsin too. Two of the toads were as big as a large apple….

Here’s a Tulip Tree Silkmoth that visited us this summer. She was huge!

I know I already shared photos of my mantis, Kamakiri before, but I can’t seem to find the thread, so here she is!

She’s no longer with us sadly. She lived a very full 9 months! Mom used to make fun of me last summer as I walked home from work… it was about a 1.5 mile walk on a grassy hill, and I’d catch grasshoppers for her dinner the whole way. I’d have one in-between each finger and would have to have someone open the door for me to get into the house! πŸ˜†

Very pretty silk moth! It’s just amazing to me how something so big can be so silent flying……It’s really cool when moths and butterflies hatch too. Their bodies are huge, and the wings all crumpled up, they then pump the fluid stored in their bodies into their wings to expand them. The body on one of the Cecropias I hatched was twice as big as my dad’s thumb when she first came out of the cocoon.

Let’s face it, nothing beats Mother Nature. Life would be so very dull without her infinite diversity.

LOL i don’t mind ^_^ When i was a kid, i used to raise tent caterpillars because they were the easiest to find and get little brown moths in my glass jar a few days later after feeding them leaves LOL Actually, i even have a scar from one of my caterpillar jars from one day when i was walking to a friend’s house to show my caterpillars off and tripped, smashing the jar into the curb. Got me a nice triangular scar for my troubles LOL

I love moths, they are sooooo fuzzy and cute! I worked one summer as a forest ranger and one of my favourite memories was of the one particular cabin that faced sunrise and almost every morning we’d have HUGE luna moths sunning around the front door! πŸ˜€ (My other favourite memory is the day we discovered our cabin site was right in the middle of a box turtle migration – turtles everywhere! Every time we moved the truck, we had to move turtles out of the way first! LOL)

Nirvana, i loooove your gecko, what pretty eyes! ^_^ And what kind of snake do you have?

I’ve told at least two stories in this post, should I also tell the one about the time I got a black rat snake down my shirt? LOL
