What a beautiful dog!! He looks like my dad’s Doberman that he just loved so much! When dad couldn’t take care of him anymore,(Dad had Alzheimers and died in 2004) I bought him a big stuffed Doberman toy dog that he could play with and talk to until he left. The dog had been “stolen” in a gas station while Dad was using the restroom and the amazing thing was, 2 years later, he was in the same station and happened to mention his missing dog, and the attendent said he knew where the dog was, so Dad went to the house, and the dog came rushing up to him all excited to see him even after 2 years! The owners said they had found him on the side of the road and had taken him home for their little kids. The owners saw how the dog responded to Dad and had to admit that it was the dog that had been Dad’s. But Dad saw how well the family had cared for him and the little kids loved him so much, he just gave the dog to the family who were so grateful to him for not taking the dog away from their kids, it was ok with Dad. That’s one of my favorite memories of my Dad.
I really hope your Doberman doggie gets well and continues to bring joy to you!!

😥 The results are in and our vet has informed us that Maks has Malignant Gastric limphoma, which is one of the wort stomach cancers out there, our options are to either put him through chemo therapy which will be really rough on him, to put him on pretezone or to put him down… 😥 They said he has a couple or a few months left, they cannot operate or do anything else for him.

I have been crying since yesterday when i found out and I can’t seem to stop… 😥 I feel so helpless, My head is throbing and I don’t think I have ever cried for this long in my life, I am so confused and numb right now…. 😥
I can’t sleep or eat, all I can do is cry which I know is not good for Maks cause he’s probably wondering what is going on. I feel my whole world is crubling down around me and I can’t move or do anything about it. 😥

Maks is doing ok for now tho he is happy and eating and even playing with his stuffed animals like he always has…I am totally heart broken tho and I can’t stop crying…. 😥

Ah, Mmloda, I’m so sorry 😥 I lost my beagle, Dice, to Lymphoma last summer. I remember that very hard decision when he was first diagnosed. If you need to talk, I’m always here to listen.

I am so very sorry. Lymphoma sucks – and it’s not uncommon to have it in younger dogs.

Chemo for dogs often isn’t as bad as it is for people. I’m going through chemo now and I wouldn’t put a dog through these side effects IF they had them. I treated a bunch of dogs for lymphoma – one lost all his whiskers and was actually kind of cute. The only other bad side effect I saw was a Golden that ate a bag of twizzlers and a bag of Reese’s peanut butter cups while she was on the chemo – she was sick for a day but it was from the candy not the chemo. Only about 5% of dogs have adverse chemo reactions. Down side is chemo is very expensive – and even if Maks responds you may only be looking at a couple to a few extra months. Prednisone can increase the quality of life for the time he has left.

It is a hard, hard decision you are facing. The only thing you can do is what YOU think is best for Maks – not the vet and not other people. Many people would come in and say they got pressure from family members to either do chemo or not do chemo but you know Maks best. If he is ok with shots and going to the vets chemo wouldn’t be bad for him – alot of our chemo patients would run down the hallway wagging their tails because we gave them so many biscuits and treats. But if he hates the vet the chemo would be tougher on him. You obviously love Maks alot and I know you will do what is best for him. If you need to talk please PM me.

I’m so sorry, mmloda. Cancer at 5 years old is a heavy burden, but I know you’ll make the right decision for Maks and for yourself. I’m so sorry.

Im so sorry Loda. If I had the money for Rab, I would have tried anything, but the advice I got was to wait till his quality of life was not good, then let him go. He was alot older, though. You know what is best and we are here for you. Im so sorry you have to go thru this because we know how bad it sucks. Hugs.
