My Docs great. Most are. Just seems that guy is really unhappy with his career choice. And if I ran into him I wouldn’t have been as nice as you. 👿
November 2, 2008 at 7:15 pm #737265He seems like he wanted to be a human doctor and could only be a vet or something…he doesn’t care at all about animals…

And I agree with if he’s the only available, get your records and leave! Sorry about the sweater and bod parting company, but just think… You will eventually be able to laugh about that part! It’ll take some time, but…
November 2, 2008 at 7:31 pm #737267Man, Dr. Thiessen would never have charged so much to do so little. He also doesn’t give people a bunch of grief over Rabies if the animal has reactions and is an indoor pet. He would have done x-rays…and I would have been the one taking them. LOL!
Anyway, I am with everyone else, you should have have walked out and not paid him a penny. I would lodge a formal complaint as well and let the clinic know that because of him you will never be back.
I’ve met a few vets I would never let touch my animals…though most of their care is done by me, only things I can’t do is Rabies and spaying and neutering, though actually I have neutered a few cats in my time, under Doc’s supervision.
That guy is not a vet as far as i am concerned…and he sounds like he is without compassion for animals or people, which makes him even worse. Vet training or no, if you have no compassion, why are you a vet in the first place?
Doc has been known to do surgery pro bono just to save a life, even when the people couldn’t afford it and tearfully opted to put the animal to sleep, he just couldn’t do it and would save the animal anyway and give them back to the owners with only a minimal charge.
I miss working with him. If I ever visit I want to spend a few hours just hanging out over there.

November 2, 2008 at 9:40 pm #737268I need to find someone like that!
Also, I was talking to my sister and this is the same vet who spayed her cat about four years ago. I remember her getting a bill for about $400 for a spay and she hit the roof. When she asked why it was so high the doctor said there were complications because the cat was already pregnant so he had to abort the kittens. She flipped out and never went back since he didn’t even call to notify her give her the option to not proceed, he just aborted them anyway and didn’t even tell her about it and threw it on the bill like an auto-mechanic trying to push every last cent he could squeeze out of her! Like we ever would have said to abort a litter of innocent kittens! I couldn’t believe I was going to the same guy who did that, because I remember her telling me about it years ago! The guy is pshycotic!

I don’t think I’ve ever had a really bad vet – the one I have now is actually really nice. I got an exam, updates to most of my shots (which some of them he said were not necessary every year, more like every 2, if the cat is indoor, so I passed this year) all for about $75. So I was pretty happy. That and he really seemed to care about the cat! She was freaking out so he was coddling her and talking nonsense stuff to her (like all pet parents do to their pets) and petting her, it worked so I don’t care.
I really would not go back there. He just doesn’t care. Almost worse then when the person thinks of the job as… a job. Once you think that, it’s not fun anymore.

O.M.G. I am so enraged by reading that I can hardly see straight. That man has no business around any animal 👿

Well he certainly acts like he missed out on something vital in life. I think I was more upset about the way he spoke to me and acted as if I was the cause of my animals discomfort more so then anything. He acted like I was trash who he was doing a favor by not calling social services on me since I was neglecting and abusing my chilren or something.
Plus the whole scene after was humiliating and after ALL that my cat is still gagging on something.
I went home during my lunch and she ate a little bit of food and kept it down. She also isn’t gagging as much as she was, but she sound like she is coughing a little, or clearing her throat or something….
Anybody know if cats can catch the flu?

There was this cat on emergency vets once that tried to eat a needle and got it stuck in the back of the throat and was kinda gagging…I’d take him somewhere else, the next town if need be, anywhere but where that quack works. :K

maybe she has acid reflux , when mine acts up the mucus in my throat thickens to protect itself , maybe an antacid will work

I saw that episode and thought that very same thing at first! I can’t seem to see anything in her throat and the vet said he didn’t feel any obstructions. I wanted him to do an x-ray but he said he though bloodwork would be more beneficial so I’m waiting on that. GAH!

Actually I have her 1/4 a pepcid and she’s doing better. Still gagging though, but she’s at least eating a little bit now. I don’t know what it could be. She’s 15 and she’s never done this before. I think I might go for a second opinion I’m going to wait until I et the blood results tomorrow first. She gets so stressed when I take her out of the house, I’m not sure she’s ready to go back in the carrier again… she gets so stressed out she starts to get even worse 😥
