So who’s your favorite? I gotta go with California Chrome – Cali bred and raised, just like me 😉

May 4, 2014 at 1:59 am #912268Did he win? I’ve been sick all day and not following the news….
May 4, 2014 at 3:02 am #912272Darn. I forgot about the race. I try to watch it each year since I was born in Lexington, KY, the same year that the last time there was a triple crown winner (1978 – Affirmed).
May 4, 2014 at 6:28 am #912278I’m terrible, I never remember when the race is! Looks like you got your wish TDM, I looked it up California Chrome won the day! 😀 Very cute/handsome horse with a zinger of a nice catchy name, so I’m not surprised that he was victorious. 🙂 (I’ve noticed that the best racehorses have cool, catchy names that roll off the tongue and stick in your head – a few examples: Secretariat, Zenyatta, Man of War, Northern Dancer, Seattle Slew, Affirmed, Seabiscuit, War Admiral.)

Excellent!
May 5, 2014 at 12:39 am #912287The Preakness, the Second leg of the Triple Crown, is coming up in two weeks (close to my hometown) in Baltimore… Let’s see if Chrome is good enough to make a bid for the Triple Crown, and hopefully win the Preakness too! If so, then it’s off to the Belmont Stakes in New York.
The last Triple Crown winner was Affirmed in 1978. I keep hoping we’ll get a new winner… perhaps Chrome? 🙂

*** Come visit me on deviantArt at http://ela-hara.deviantart.comMay 5, 2014 at 3:04 am #912289That would be too amazing, considering the fact that Chrome was bred for under $10,000.00 His dam was a purchase of $7,000.00 and his sire was $2,500.00 When you consider the millions other owners spend for a shot at the Triple Crown, Chrome was/is a long shot in the dark… but I’ll keep my fingers crossed 😀 Can hardly wait for the Preakness!

May 18, 2014 at 12:47 am #912790Two races down, one to go. 🙂 Of course, 1 1/2 miles is VERY different from 1 1/4 miles or 1 3/16 miles, and the jockey has to ride the longer race properly also. We shall see!
May 21, 2014 at 3:42 pm #912894That’s what make the Belmont the hard one. We know Double Crown winners can sprint, but can they do the distance? I’m excited. I’d like to a Triple Crown winner.

May 10, 2015 at 2:53 am #929365who won?
May 10, 2015 at 5:15 am #929371American Pharoah won the roses this year at the Derby beating out Dortmund, his stablemate, and Firing Line who ran well but was edged out by Pharoah in the stretch. Interesting to note that Espinoza, who rode California Chrome last year, took Pharoah wide on the outside of Firing Line and Dortmund and finished really strong. American Pharoah now heads for the Preakness and I think he’ll prolly take that race as well. Then Belmont and we have a Triple Crown winner! So yeah, keeping my fingers crossed… What’s fun about American Pharoah is the obvious joy he has when racing – he just dances through the tape and you could tell he was proud of himself when he was in the winner’s circle. With Espinoza on board I think Pharoah will more than likely take the Preakness. Can hardly wait to see him run again!
