Night Wolf is lovely!Right up my alley.

Male Hearth....one day🤞Dream on.May 8, 2012 at 9:29 pm #880064OK–so anyone who has seen my thread on clear coat knows Night Wolf was a royal PITA in many, many ways. I’ve finally declared him as done as he gets…for now. LOL The glue issue was never completely resolved–short of dipping his whole face in acetone, that eye was not coming out, so in some pics it looks a bit askew. In the closeup, you can see the remaining excess surrounding it that I simply gave up on trying to get to with the brush.
The wings…meh. I gave up on blending, just a few touch ups here & there to smooth it a bit, and redid a few stars until they looked a bit better.
His clear coat–ay yi yi! Even with the same satin finish I used on the other two, came out pure glossy. He was blinding. Many many many attempts later, I finally got him down to something more bearable with a couple of coats from a fresh can of Krylon matte finish.
Here is is, hanging out in his normal place on my desk.
Close up–the eye on the left is the problem child. In both indoor shots, he looks shinier than he appears in life right now.:
Outside, full view. You can see the slight skew to that eye better here. Because of the angle & lighting, his wings look much less metallic, so the detail work on them is better shown in this one; the color change on them looks more dramatic here than on my desk though. Just a tough piece to get accurate pics of!:
None of these show the five different metallics/interference paints on his fur, that’s just been too hard to capture in images. But he’s got copper, silver, two shades of gold, blue, and purple hidden in that fur.
He’s been a learning experience, that’s for sure. I now know I need to practice a number of skills before tackling his brother! LOL
May 9, 2012 at 11:21 am #880111I think he looks fantastic, wonky eye or no! 🙂
May 9, 2012 at 7:41 pm #880143He’s so pretty. He looks fine to me :).
June 5, 2012 at 9:30 pm #881415The latest–his nickname is Plague…because he’s been one (and he looked like he was suffering from one in the beginning!) His “kennel name” is Jolie’s Tequila Sunrise, partly for the color, partly because he seriously comes close to driving me to drink. 😀
Opinions needed for antiquing: what color? I’m inclined to do a warm toned black, to darken him a little overall & pull out the texture, but I’m worried about how that would look over the wings. Blues & purples do NOT photograph well with iPhones; even with editing, this is as close as I can get with current weather restrictions limiting outdoor photography. On my screen, he shows as more purple in this pic–and in some lights, he is–but he’s also very blue, if that makes sense. The blue you see here between the larger tail scales is probably a brighter blue than his true base color, but not by much.
Eyes in this pic are Tohickon metallic gold; they may or may not end up that way (it’s a little brighter gold than it looks here). I’m having a heck of a time choosing between Tohickon’s gold, silver, silver-blue, and Windstone’s Periwinkle. The metallics all seem too bright when viewed in regular room light (away from the window)–it’s all your eye is drawn towards. The periwinkle blends in so well, it’s almost too bland. I’m hoping that will sort itself once he’s antiqued.
So–antiquing thoughts? Other than a few touchups, he’s about ready for that step, and opinions would be very welcome. I’m really worried about screwing up those wings.
June 5, 2012 at 10:09 pm #881417Its Spyro! I love it!

LMAO!!!!! Oh lordy, it is! So did not make that connection.
This one’s being done for a girl’s birthday. Her mom had her point out a couple of color schemes in a book of dragon drawings; I kind of combined the two a bit.
*can’t stop snickering*
Here’s another pic–actually dragged out a “real” camera and shot in RAW for this one, trying to get closer to the real colors. This one shows more of his chest, and also has the periwinkle (non metallic) eyes in place. Of course, his wings now look more washed out and he’s lost the overall purple. Call him a cross between the two, I suppose. LOL Better pics will be posted when the weather cooperates…
Maybe black antiquing everywhere EXCEPT the wing scales, and do those with ____? (suggestions?)
June 6, 2012 at 1:48 am #881428You don’t need to antique with the same color all over. You can go with a purple or with the same blue you used on the body for the wings and the darker color elsewhere. Or no antiquing at all on the wings! It depends on the effect you want.
Read my books! Volume 1 and 2 of A Dragon Medley are available now.

Male Hearth....one day🤞Dream on.June 7, 2012 at 1:47 am #881474Gorgegous PYO! I love the interference job you did on him 🙂
June 28, 2012 at 12:05 am #882508Plague’s final shots–
He’s been done for about a week, I’ve just been lazy about actually getting the *good* pics pulled from the camera. His commissioner is very pleased…and my husband may actually miss this one once he ships out!
Quick details:
Paint: base coat, Winsor & Newton Galeria, Titanium White; antiquing, W&N mix of Mars Black and a smidge of Burnt Umber. Everything else, Sargent’s Liquid Metal. NO interference used on this one. The Liquid Metal was a so-so paint in my opinion–used with a hand brush, it regularly became blotchy & uneven. Some colors–such as the gold–never did even out in places with 20 thin coats. At that point, I surrendered! It also took very long drying times & smudged off easily when handled during those times. I finally had to let it dry for 4-5 days each time before doing the next bit. Perhaps it’s better with an airbrush; I know a few people here use it. Colors mixed well with each other and with the W&N paints.
Clear coat: 4 coats of DuraClear Gloss, hand applied.
Eyes: Tohickon Metallic Gold. In a word, AWESOME.
Forehead gem: Windstone-provided Swarovski Topaz
Tail gem: 5mm Swarovski Rivoli cut in the color “Volcano”, purchased via etsy. LOVE LOVE LOVE this cut and color. (Well, and any rivoli-cut gems. That cut is just stunning, and there’s so many fun colors. Just wish you could get a mixed bag instead of 12 of one color!)
And dang, this PYO has more darn crevices I can’t easily get into than any other I’ve done so far!
Just a few pics here–the rest will be in the PYO gallery once approved.

“What do you mean, attitude problem?”:
(FYI–after a lot of experimenting, I’ve discovered that Photobucket strips out any color space instructions from your pics when you upload them. On some monitors and in some operating systems (Windows), the colors may still look correct. On Macs, forget it–it bleaches all color and contrast from your images. I’ve given up and moved to Flickr for all photo hosting at this point, so colors on these for most people should be more or less true to the originals and close to his real shades. He’s a bit darker when viewed indoors.)
June 28, 2012 at 1:35 am #882511That is very,very pretty.Well done.
