Broke at the moment, perhaps when you are all done with the current commissions and have had a few months break…I can talk you into it? *cute look*

Hey Arlla,
I see you’re using Folk Art acrylics. I like those too. Do you use a spray on finsh once you’re done painting, or do you brush yours on with Detla clear coat? I only ask cause I see a couple bottles of Delta product sitting back there too, and I’m looking to get a brush on finish for mine when I’m done. I don’t want a spray cause I haven’t got a place in my apartment to spray something like that. I saw some bottles of Delta finish at a Michael’s craft store near me, but didn’t get it cause I didn’t know if the two brands would combine okay.

I do use a lot of folk art paints – I get good results with them. I also use a lot of Golden brand, too – they have the absolute best pearlecent/metallic/interference colors I’ve found.
And yes, I do use the delta sealers. I used to use the krylon spray sealers, but they gave me so many problems and inconsistancies that I switched to the brush on stuff. And I love them – I can brush them on finished parts so that I don’t mess them up while I’m still working on the unfinished bits. 🙂

😀 Well, I can’t promise you a tabby tiger griff. I’m just not sure if I’ll be doing any more of these once these are done. But you wouldn’t have any problems talking me into another sort of griffin! 😉

That is a good idea….I have a brush on and I think I might try that.August 23, 2007 at 9:52 pm #605144dragonessjade wrote:That is a good idea….I have a brush on and I think I might try that.
It’s a lifesaver, I’m telling ya – I usually do the top half or the bottom half of a griffin first, so being able to protect what’s finished from my groping hands is invaluable. ^_^ Just remember that the sealer should sit and dry for at least a day before you start handling it – 2 days is even better. Handle it while it’s still drying and you can make a much bigger mess than you would have touching the unprotected paint. ;_;

Well I try to use all of the color I am using and then go onto the next color…but I think it would prevent those white specks I keep on getting and having to touch up. I hope the muse I finished for my mom didn’t mess up. I had to put the sealer and jewels on quick so my sister could take it on her trip to see my mom.August 24, 2007 at 4:07 am #605146Arlla wrote:travistie wrote:And yes, I do use the delta sealers. They work ok with the Golden paints then? I use the krylon sealers, but come winter, my only option (when it’s frigid out) is the garage, after the wood stove has been going, but even then, it doesn’t get warm enough to really use sealers if it is a good cold snap. Also means carrying a PYO down a flight of stone steps that are probably covered in snow and a little bit of ice. Hoping this is a viable solution for winter!

Okay, cool. I’ve used sprays in the past too, and sometimes I would get a rough texture on parts of the piece I was spraying. Almost like a fine sand paper feel I guess you could say. I don’t know… maybe I wasn’t spraying it on the proper way or something. 😕 I’m definitely gonna go with a brush on type this time because of that reason, and the fact I have no where around my apartment to spray that kinf of stuff.
I love the Folk Art paints though. They go on smoothly and are not expensive at all. I was looking at some Golden interference paint the other day, but decided not to get any. The store I went to didn’t have the color I wanted… but the other colors were also like $17.00 a tube! I’m gonna hold off on buying that kind of paint until I’m sure I enjoy doing these PYOs, and want to do more. I think I might use a slight thin layer of metallics on this piece I’m going to start this weekend. So, we’ll see how it goes!
Thanks for the tips Arlla. Your Tiger griffins are really cool looking. Have you ever done a white tiger griffin for anyone?
September 1, 2007 at 4:05 am #605148This is probably the most difficult and tedious part of the whole dang griffin for me – THIS DANG HAUNCH!! ^_^ It’s not even the whole butt, it’s THIS particular buttock, the “off side” one. It’s smoother than the other one, and curvy in just the right way to make it difficult for me to blend. But I’ve got it mostly done on these four…the rest will be easier!
(oh, and to the above – yes, the brush on sealers seem to work just fine with the Golden paints. Though I can’t say how archival any of these combinations are… 😕 But so far, everything’s been great!! No adverse chemical reactions of any kind! ^_^)

No, but I’ve been planning on doing one for myself after all of these are done! 😉
