I can’t decide how I feel about the umbral opals. On the one hand, the colors are beautiful. I love the rich blues and teals and purples going on there. But on the other, I feel like… because the color scheme is so rich and dark and there’s a lack of demarkation between various body parts/features in the sculpts, a lot of the details feel like they’re lost to me. Does anyone else feel the same way?
I really adore that pebble fox. He’s already past a price range I could part with though, alas.

Looking for rainbow or pink & teal grab bags!

I’ve liked it on the Male Unicorn, so far that’s it though.

There’s also a new kingfisher that’s quite lovely looking.
Ah, to have all the money in the world |D;

I think actually that it looks great on the rock dragon. I love the way the little gold details offset the color. Although maybe the rock is a bit much contrast for me. The male unicorn, I feel like I have trouble seeing the details on him. That’s probably just me, though, and again the color is still just gorgeous. At this rate, someone’s going to get him for a steal.
June 17, 2014 at 1:21 pm #914251Kingfisher Griffin #2 is quite different from the first one – different color for the front feet and fewer colors on the wings. I like him better.
June 17, 2014 at 2:29 pm #914253And here is a Pebble Red Fox!

It’s true, I was spending some time last night comparing them side by side. There’s a section of the first test’s wings that are also gold, as well as I think some black defining bands and gold spots on the tip feathers, and he also had “eye spots” that kind of looked like eyebrows. Also, the gold color was much more brighter and vivid. I’m kind of torn personally as there were some aspects to the other one that I think in combination with this one would have made it perfect, BUT overall I agree with you that I like this one better. The greens and teals feel a lot brighter, and I like that the tail is green and not gold this time. I’d really love to win this piece. /crosses fingers

Wow! Really? You mean there was another tiny sculpt that went for more?
I wasn’t referring to the total sale price, but the high bid for such a little one.
Life is beautiful.

I was thinking that too! For a tiny piece with a non-intricate paint job, it’s definitely got to be a record for a pebble! The very first pebble cat that was ever sold was sold on eBay in 2010, it went for about a third of the price of that fox (I believe the first kitty was a Siamese and there was also an awesome tabby)! I hope these auctions are inspiring the production of these little guys!! I’ve been checking eBay every night lately hoping to nab one of these little balls of cuteness!!

Holy crap I would have done a spit-take if I’d been drinking anything when I went to the ebay listing to check to see what price it finally sold at. That’s–incredible!! Kind of insane, for such a teeny tiny thing with an un-intricate paint job, but wonderful for windstone as that had to be some insane profit ratio net. The thought that another pebble has sold for even *more* is mind-boggling. I would love to have a little pebble fox myself (and to get one for my friend) but I knew as soon as it went up I wasn’t going to be able to compete for it, and now I’m glad I wasn’t cuz… 600…. xD; wowzers. Congrats to whoever won that bidding war though!! Seems like it was intense.
June 18, 2014 at 3:45 am #914293I compared the King Fisher Griffins too and I have to say I like the first one better with more black and gold accents but they are both so pretty! I was watching the male unicorn and put a bid in but once it hit $200 I was thinking I couldn’t afford it. Now that I see it sold for just over that, I kind of wish I had bid again but I just don’t have enough money unless I sell some of my pieces. I have sadly watched all the blue morphos coming out and haven’t been able to get any of those either so I am hoping I can when more come out!

The biggest thing about #1 I prefer is his face, I think he has a bit more character there (to me, anyway), but prefer #2’s overall color, there seems to be a bit more depth in the blues and golds.

@Mercury Star
Maybe bad for you, good for your wallet. I would definitely have a lot more money now if I hadn’t discovered Windstone’s Ebay auctions. Pretty sure if I win/buy much more I’m going to get a lecture from someone about ‘how much am I spending.’ Even though I’m keeping to a strict budget. Even though I’m an adult. 8|But, wow, that emerald tiger sure is really neat.
@Kim
Strangely, I enjoy the overall blackness of the second one’s face more, though I do wish he had a bit more defining black markings in his wings as well as some more of the gold spots–especially the little eyebrow looking bits. I think that would make him perfect. But the blues, greens, and teals that he’s got are lovely, and I adore his cheeks and I like the darker copper colors on his chest and legs too. But both are very, very lovely. Such lovely stuff lately. -sigh-Also I kind of feel your pain about not pushing yourself more on bidding for something. Hopefully there will be more lovely little golden zebras in the future; it’s a gorgeous scheme, and the lavender eyes were a very nice touch.
