And it must really be nice to have a hubby that will support your habit. Mine just gives me the “look” to make me feel guilty. π
I get that same look from mine! π
January 9, 2008 at 9:19 pm #654580Gorgeous roses! I’ve always loved the coral or orangish colored ones the best.

My passion in roses is minis, lavender, and stripes. Doesn’t matter what kind, hybrid tead, grandifloria, single, it’s all good. I adore minis, and there are some really beautiful ones out there. I’ve been experimenting the last couple years with growing those indoors year round since they can be grown in pots and have had some decent success. I love going out in the summertime and bringing in a big bouquet of fresh cut roses, they just smell so wonderful. I’d suggest the minis for anyone who’s looking for a lot of beauty and sometimes fragrance for small spaces. I’ll post some rose pictures as well once I’m able.
Beautiful roses! The Double Delight is my favorite. Your garden must look really amazing — you need to show us some pictures of it sometime! By the way, when you’re growing the minis indoors, how much sun do they need?

Plumeria is beautiful — I also saw those when I went to Kauai a few years back. But its too cold for them where I am too.
January 10, 2008 at 1:04 am #654583The only way I’ve been able to have any success with growing them indoors is to set up some full spectrum lighting over them and to put their pots in a large sweater storage box filled with pea gravel that I keep moist to up the humidity for them. I leave the lights on for 12 hours and off for 12. Unfortunately roses usually don’t do so well indoors, but I have heard of people with only one or two that successfully do so by taking them out to soak up some sun during the day.

January 10, 2008 at 2:25 am #654585Beautiful roses! I used to have a mini rose when I was living in the college dorm. I lived on the third floor and set it in my window during the day with the blinds up so it could get lots of sunlight. It did beautifully until I had to go home for the summer and it had to live outdoors at my parents’ place. π Poor thing was eaten up by bugs within a few weeks.
January 10, 2008 at 3:07 am #654586Your pionus is so cute! Both of mine were rescues. Khu, my bronzewing, was deemed ‘unsellable’ by a store due to a bent toe (?? What) and she is like my child now. Gorbash, the maxi, was given up as his old owner didn’t want him because he wouldn’t breed! Poor guy. He loves people too.

From what you guys have mentioned, I think I’m going to just try growing the full size version outdoors. π

January 10, 2008 at 7:33 am #654589Welcome!!!
Those rose are so pretty I realy like the one with the yellow stripes. Roses are nearly impossible to grow up here. Too cold and too dry. π
