      Hmmmm…..

I shifted items around until a cabinet really got quite full, so then I moved some of the bigger pieces to another roon. Then, S.O. looked at the first cabinet and said “You have and obsession and should stop” I said, “No, an obsession is different, this is a collection” Next thing I know, S.O. is sitting in my spot where I usually sit to admire my collection. And, a new cabinet is being built.

I still prefer to bring the boxes in when S.O.s not home and just show the new piece, though! Co-workers and the post office are well aware of the number of boxes I get, too.

Regardless, it’s my money and I’m not compromising the household. S.O. buys personal stuff, too. the only time I would think that there is a problem is when the collection takes away from the financial stability of the home. Then, clearly, there’s a problem.

I think what my S.O. reacts to mostly is the size of the boxes when they arrive! There always so massive that it really seems like I’m getting “more” then what I really am. S.O. has never said anything negative about the pieces – thinks they are awesome.

But, compromise and adjustments are part of marriage but that also means that they need to compromise to us, not just us to them!

I’ll keep collecting and hope you do too.

      Life is beautiful.

My boyfriend doesn’t mind them at all. It surprised him at first how much they are, but all he tells me is that dont go crazy buying them if you dont have the money (priorities first!). lol!!

I told him that I would love to get a curio cabinet one day to display them all. 🙂

I am lauging out loud reading these responses! It is so good to know I am not alone.

I work and pay the utilites each month, my cigarettes (shame) and any entertainment for the family, and half groceries. He pays the house, gas for vehicles, and half groceries. Together we have no credit card debt or car payments. I, however, have a credit card debt. The limit isn’t horrible or scary, but I still hate the thought of interest. I have a seperate account for my artwork.

I especially laughed when I read the post about car parts!!! That is his obsession, too. He builds cars, and his summer daily driver is a ’60 Studebaker Lark wagon; his winter daily driver is a ’57 chevy pick-up. Project cars are a ’41 fiberglass Willy’s that was a race car with a full roll cage and is not street legal. He wants to turn in into a street legal “gasser” style. He also has a ’47 Chevy with no interior and in need of major body work. He has a cadillac engine for it, but he will need to go through and rebuild it. I think he also has a transmission? he does all this work himself, except interior. He is also a published pinstripe artist.

I know when he wants to spend over $2K on tires and wheels I’m like “What?? Come again????” :jawdrop: Or a rusty old part he spends money on!

But, I would do anything for this man. He suffered the loss of the right side of his body, and his left ring finger, in an accident in 2008. He received $100K in settlement. He returned to work one year and one day after the accident, and has taken two/three? sick days since. He went back to building cars and pinstriping. His pinstriping is so much better AFTER the accident. He says it’s because he has to take more time. He won’t even park in a handicapped zone if there is a different close space available–and if we’re in the Studebaker we have to walk from the back of the lot where no one else parks, LOL! 😀

You may google “Shawn Spiwak” and read about him here. He is incredible. I know $100K sounds like a lot of money, but HE LOST THE RIGHT HALF OF HIS BODY. And you know he was right handed, of course. 🙁 And, who could live the rest of their life from 33 years old, with a family, on that amount of money?? Don’t worry about him or us, though, all is fine, and he is even more the man I married than he was before! I consider myself the luckiest woman on earth.

Therefore, since it is my personal opinion his settlement was laughable and a joke, and he should have everything he wants from this point forward, I cannot argue with him about things I collect that “sit gathering dust in boxes” (how can it “gather” dust if it’s in a box? For such a smart man he says silly things). I will be getting a barrister bookcase, but I still need to pare down to fit everything in there and the cabinet I own. He fortunately likes the pieces on the fireplace, whew!

He does not appreciate the beauty of any of my artwork fully, and he especially does not appreciate the price on any of it- paintings included. He told me my Jasmine Beckett-Griffith original with a hand-made frame from Matt wasn’t worth more than $150! He actually told me he wouldn’t pay over $200 for my Tiger Little Rock Dragon- my icon!!!! Idiot. LOL 😀

I’ve been known to get a new piece, unbox it, and put it on a shelf and pretend it’s been there forever. For about 2 days – then I feel bad and fess up.

My husband gives me flack about how much I spend – my response lately has been to offer to separate our budgets. That usually makes him quiet down since his portion of the monthly expenses exceed his monthly income and he’d be in debt to me every month. 🙂

There is something to be said about being the primary bread winner in the family. 🙂

              That is awesome, Kiya! XD
My mom’s boss and her husband don’t get along at all, and he’s a complete control freak when it comes to the money, even though she makes twice as much as he does. He takes her entire check and gives her an ALLOWANCE!!! And it’s tiny. She has to use it to do all the grocery shopping and utility shopping, that sort of stuff. So she really has nothing for herself. I find it extremely oppressive and unfair since she’s the one who makes it possible for them to afford their house/cars/etc.

Oh heck yes–several have snuck in. Others, hubby knows about, but doesn’t know the price tag. Some come in boldly–mostly the PYOs. For some damn reason, those are OK, so long as I’m buying unpainted pieces & painting them up. Then I suppose “it’s a hobby”. That little “hobby” has probably cost as much in paint, supplies, and PYO blanks as all the other Windstones…but somehow that’s fine. *rolls eyes*

He likes them. He appreciates the work that’s gone into them and the artistry. He actually plays a little with the two CPs on my desk–Allestra sometimes has something different in the curve of her tail, and the CP Male has a tiny handmade voodoo doll between his front claws. (“She always gets all the goodies, I figured he should have something of his own,” was the reasoning…if you can call it that.) It’s the price tags he chokes on, and the fact that we really need to be downsizing, not adding to the clutter.

Since I’m spending my own money, there’s a certain “I can do what I want” attitude going on here, that’s for certain. He has plenty of things I wouldn’t spend a dime for as well. As others have said though, part of being a grownup in a real relationship is that you DO have to learn to compromise, and that does mean certain sacrifices. So several thousand dollars worth of eBay test paints have been coveted in the last six months, but not purchased. Things have come and gone through the store and the classifieds that I’ve passed up. That’s just part of marriage.

Thankfully, my resident house male does NOT have a photographic memory–far from it. So smaller pieces have come in, gone into my office curio, and he’s never noticed a thing. He stares right at things (not just Windstones) and doesn’t really “see” them. In fact, I was just thinking I could smuggle another curlie in soon… LOL I kinda tend to doubt that trick would work with a Secret Keeper though!

I hope my new Emperor from a forum member doesn’t come when here’s here…..please please please USPS deliver before 3:45!!! 😀

BTW, I was busted on this one today. “I did sell my Emerald Jade Oriental, though, honey, so see….I’m trying….” Him: “That’s not trying, that’s trading!” If he only knew…..

                  Yep, price tag, clutter!

And, yep, that’s why I don’t feel bad taking low payments, LOL, I can still tell him “that is sold, I am receiving payments”. Knowing him he’ll write it down since I’ve already kinda pulled this one before. >)

C’mon, we’d all do anything for a SK! AND, I don’t have one, so I can always argue that this is my ONE color in that sculpt. 😉

My husband actually bought me my first Windstone 13 years ago. Since then my collection has grown alot. He likes them, thinks there very cool. But sometimes jokes with me that I need to join WA (Windstones Anonymous). I told him that I acknowledge that I have an addiction but I have no desire to stop!

I pray that the mailman doesn’t come on Saturdays!! Thank god he also doesn’t know how to work the computer. He knows I get some here and there but I never say look what I just got. I spread them all out, now I’ve got them in my woman cave downstairs along with my too many to count fairies, wizards and angels. I had to stop with the Dragon posters. he said I was out of room. He drew the line -no posters in the living room or kitchen.

Reading through this thread, I have thoughts:

                          A) “Huh, well I guess this illustrates an advantage to being single which I had not formerly been aware of. Thanks!”

                          B) “Huh, that fellow I’m seeing actually got me a Windstone. I see long-term WC (Windstone Compatibility). Awwwwww.”

                          C) “Huh, these are great tips for the future! Thanks the most!!!”

I am jumping into this late, but this is one of the reasons I LOVE having a P O Box. Not only do my packages NOT disappear off my porch anymore, but I can coordinate my pick ups with the days my boyfriend is at work and I can “sneak them” into the house and have them all displayed and box packed up in the attic before anyone is the wiser ^_^ One of the good things about having such a HUGE collection is nobody ever notices when new stuff comes just happens to show up. “What’s that? Oh, yes, I rearranged those when I was cleaning to liven things up. Oh, that one? I’ve always had that! You just couldn’t see it behind the others” (yea, that’s it) Two birds with one store… “Look at me CLEANING and yes, look at me NOT SPENDING all my money on Windstones! PRAISE ME!”

(is this evil? … yea probably?) LOL!

                            Got a busted Windstone?

Believe it or not! I just did the same thing! I bought all these flap cats on Ebay. “Stray Cat” editions. I recently bought a beautiful curio cabinet for $800 and when it finally came, the next day it was filled with 9 cats, a female griffin, an amethyst female dragon and about 9 Faerie Glen items.
So far he has said nothing except to say that I needed to insure them. So you are not that alone in this. Glad to know someone else does it too.
