I have a griffin, unicorn and dragon winking at me on the counter and I have my masking fluid on the way. I am going to check on airbrush medium today at the local art store so I think I am almost ready! I think antiquing fluid and some of the filigree gold etc are the only things that I have not picked up yet. There appear to be tiny little cracks around the griffin’s eye and I was wondering if that was normal? Do they disappear when you paint them? I can not wait to start these.

I’m not sure what you mean by tiny cracks. Can you take a photo to show us?

My art: featherdust.comJune 6, 2007 at 12:55 pm #585576O.K., I am kind of new to this. I have a picture and I was wondering how to post it?
June 6, 2007 at 1:00 pm #585577O.K. lets try this…
http://www.graphicrealms.com/ebay/griffin%20eye.jpgJune 6, 2007 at 1:13 pm #585578I don’t see any cracks, they must be really small. I don’t have any griffins right now, but I can’t remember ever seeing any cracks on my PYOs….
June 6, 2007 at 1:46 pm #585579I think what hardwired means is the actual eye socket. The eyes are recessed slightly on all windstones so it has a tiny gap all the way around the eye.
June 6, 2007 at 2:21 pm #585580O.K., I re uploaded the image with some arrows pointing. Those shadow marks are actually small cracks around the eye of the griffin. However if nobody else notices this might be an argument for a picker of nits. I wasn’t sure so that is why I asked. If there was a problem I wanted to know about it ahead of time and thanks again for the input!
June 6, 2007 at 2:23 pm #585581It looks like some of the stray black stuff from the eye socket, not cracks. Could just be the pic, but thats what it looks like to me.
June 6, 2007 at 2:23 pm #585582I think I remember someone mentioning the eyesockets are painted black behind the eyes. Could it be paint splatter and not an actual crack?
June 6, 2007 at 2:24 pm #585583I can see the cracks, and it’s a first. None of my PYOs have had those kind of cracks around the eyes…
June 6, 2007 at 2:41 pm #585584My eye site is not what it used to be. I took out a magnifying glass to see if I could tell which it was. I see the eye sockets are painted but that is on the inside. I couldn’t tell that way so I came up with another idea. I ran my fingernail VERY gently over the spot and my nail catches on those spots so I am leaning toward those being cracks. So now the obvious questions. Does it matter? Will the paint cover it? Would a collector care?
June 6, 2007 at 4:01 pm #585585i see what you are looking at. those are not cracks , they it is paint. try scraping it with you nails, most cracks have a small edge that your fingernail will just catch as you run over it.
but it really looks like some stray paint from the eye, and i would not worry about that.(edit) oh haha, you did that already. if they are cracks, they don’t look bug enough to do any harm and your paint probly will do a good job of filling in the space and binding it. othe4r might have better advice in case they really are cracks though.
June 6, 2007 at 4:28 pm #585586I would not care, and I am a picky collector. If thats how it came, thats how it came, but it could look worse in person, since it doesnt even look like a crack to me.
June 6, 2007 at 5:24 pm #585587They do look like paint. Acrylic ‘drips’ or strings in this case are 3-D and will catch your nail- as they dry they’d be slightly rounded. Either way I think you are okay and they should be all but invisible when you paint! I’ve painted cat hair and everything else into these things accidentally and it’s part of their character. 😆
