What ended up happening? Really, to open a paypal claim is just a couple of clicks, not really any hassle at all…
I dropped it. I basically gave the seller an ultimatum. She was willing to have me claim the shipping insurance on it, but only if she got the merchandise back. I had put to much work in restoring the sculpt, only to give it back to the person how damaged it and have her sell it again on ebay. I don’t think so. I requested a refund – sent her a civil letter with many pics and explanations of the damage. I figured if she was reasonable she would refund me a little bit, but I still haven’t heard from her. Honestly, I don’t want to deal with her. I got the sculpt for a steal. My dragon is almost completely repaired. I’m content. I know I can hear a slight collective shout in the distance “don’t give up!”. If had paid full price or more for the dragon, I would have filed a claim in two seconds. If someone was to look at my Emperor now – they would’nt even know he had been damaged. I’m okay with how things turned out. Really 😉 .
February 25, 2010 at 11:32 pm #805854Sounds good to me… as long as happiness is the end result. 🙂
March 2, 2010 at 11:51 pm #805855I sure hope you really are happy with the dragon, you did get stung by this bad seller but at least the damage was minimal.
For me personally I’m bound to purchase from Windstone directly now or from a store. Shipping fiascos with eBay just get tiring after a while, and so much money is lost, wasted, or cheated out of you.March 3, 2010 at 12:49 am #805856I’ll be honest here…I do NOT include the packing tutorial with ANYTHING! The way I see it, is that even if you send it, the seller is either a. gonna pack it however they pack anyway or b. they are gonna pack it especially horrible because you were so specific about the packing. Although, 9 times out of 10, smaller sculpts make it through much easier than large ones. If I get a large sculpt from ebay, it’s usually cuz I got it for a steal, figuring if it does get damaged on its way, no biggie, I fix it, and it’s mine for good. No selling anything that’s been majorly broken. Actually, I rarely let go of any Windstone things. 😳
I hear the USPS is considering no more Saturday delivery or raising the rates again…Me, I’d rather have no delivery on Saturdays…Shipping is too high already. UPS is ALWAYS atleast $2 more than USPS (USPS-even with Insurance), and that is why I usually go with USPS. 😕 I love the UPS guy though! He’s a great guy…He’s my uncle! 8)March 3, 2010 at 12:59 am #805857Hmm. o.o; If it’s a seller that hasn’t shipped anything fragile before, I always message to ask if they’re willing to pack according to the tutorial before I even bid. That way, I have a record of them saying “Yes, I will pack that way for you,” in case they really don’t. >_>

UPS and FedEx are required (by law or something similar) to charge more than the USPS. Had an ex-boyfriend whose dad was an executive with UPS and he told me about it. It’s set up to try and “encourage” people to use USPS, thus keeping USPS in business.
March 3, 2010 at 1:27 am #805859I’ve had consistent problems with USPS (it may be a local thing), so I have no problem paying the extra for UPS. Plus, our UPS store is very helpful and friendly. 🙂

I had a few with my previous address. I don’t know if it went through a different sorting plant to get there (Big 18 miles away from here) but the boxes always looked beat to death there. Here not so much. So it may indeed be location on that count. I am not saying UPS does a bad job at all in handling deliveries. My uncle will go the extra mile for everyone delivery on his route and put the parcels in the garage or inside for the addressee, so I wouldn’t ever say anything bad about it. I’m just home all the time, and unemployed so, ofcourse I will go with the cheaper rate. But should the PO decide to raise their rates, and UPS does not…I will go with UPS as it will most likely be cheaper. 😉
March 9, 2010 at 1:40 am #805862It`s frustrating… If something`s wrong with the item sold, some ebaysellers just seem to ignore the buyers attempts to solve the problem in a nice way. I faced a problem with a seller telling me that he/she would doublebox my Windstone, but it wasn`t properly packed at all. When I tried to deal with the seller in a nice way, hoping to get a partial refund because it arrived chipped the person just decided not to get back to me. I just got tired and decided to just drop it. It shouldn`t be necessary having to ask all the time. It gets you tired.
Glad the dragon looks better now purpleturtle:)
March 9, 2010 at 4:43 am #805863Do you have any update pics now that he’s had a little makeover? 🙂

I will definitely keep this in mind. I always message the seller and just give them the website. Most sellers thank me for the advice or at least tell me they will bubble wrap and double box the item. So far I have not had any problems, but you never know what will happen in the future. All I can do is cross my fingers and hope for the best.

Thanks for asking 🙂 . I will try to soon. I still need to paint his horn I re-sculpted and I need to repair the major paint chip on his chest a little better than what I have done. He also needs his gold trim re-touched. As for the stupid saran-wrap, it’s 98% gone 😀 . From afar he’s very dashing, but I needed to take a break from fixing him. I have a few days off coming up, so I may try to finish him then.
On a side note, I never realized how detailed this sculpt is 😮 . It’s incredible – every scale has a ridge and how they are laid out is very natural. I wonder how long Melody worked on him  . I have done a little sculpting, and only small sculpts at that. Not evening being a fraction as detailed as her stuff, it still takes me forever to complete one.
