First you have to define what you want.
Do you want a full refund, partial refund, face to face with Rosie? After that, a well written letter in legaleze usually does the trick. Be professional and specify what you want and if they don’t respond, what you will do if you don’t get what you want.
How long do you have before the cruise?

I want a partial refund or onboard credit.
Anyone speak legaleze?
What can I do? I don’t want to cancel. I have no real power…April 18, 2007 at 12:52 am #563794whippetluv wrote:The problem is…. I know these people. I got married on this same cruise *to a different place* two years ago. It would be like calling Melody and bitching her out for scamming you. She and the whole small crew are like friends. I have met all of them and whatnot, I would feel like an jerk to call and get so upset.
….
🙄 I am such a puss when it comes to this kind of stuffYou don’t have to scream and you don’t have to be rude, you just have to be honest – “Look, this is what I paid for and I’m sorry you guys can’t provide it anymore but if you can’t, then I am not getting what I paid for.”
If they are as cool as Melody and Co. then they should be understanding and more than willing to help you out, in fact they should feel really bad about it and shouldn’t be brushing you off like that email did.
April 18, 2007 at 1:57 am #563795Letter I wrote just now…
Hi…
Sorry to harp on this, but I want one point strongly pointed out. Theme parks are NOT a real option on this cruise.
The NCL website says you can not disempark until 11. And say you are really lucky and get off the boat almost right away, which we know doesn’t happen because of the lines, and then wait for the shuttle. So say you get on the shuttle at 11:30. The drive is over an hour. Sooo by the time you get off at Disney…its now 1:00 pm. You have to get back on the shuttle at 3:30 to be back by 5…which is the time the boat requires you to return. That gives you 2 and a half hours in a Disney park in PEAK season.
And you just paid 150 bucks a person to maybe ride one ride, or see one whale show in Seaworld.
So making us feel better by saying we can go to one of the wonderful excursions at Port Canaveral, is just not real.
I was so excited when I first thought we could go to Disney…and now I am devistated. I can’t do Disney and I can’t do the glass bottom boat tour I really wanted to do in Bermuda.
While I understand completely why you resceduled, I am not pleased with how this is being handled. I am sure you will understand when I tell you that I want somesort of compensation. We are not getting what we paid for. And the note you sent me before made me feel very passed by. You did not answer any of the points I had made. It sounded like a forumla letter and it really hurt.
I still want to go. I am still going to have a great time, but I am upset right now and I know that is coming through too.
I don’t know what to say really. I don’t want to come across as some whiny dyke, but I feel like one. 🙂
So anyway the main point of this letter was to point out that saying we can at least go to a theme park is Not a real option and is rediculous. Anyway…hope someone is listening.
Thanks
TaraApril 18, 2007 at 2:07 am #563796Make sure you spell “formula” right and use spell check on the whole thing.
I think it sounds good though. But make sure you ask outright for what you want. I didn’t see an option given for them to “make it better” for you, so it just sounds like complaining. There really is nothing they can do unless you suggest something. They probably don’t realize the timing issue, so it’s good you put that in.
Sorry. I just realized I threw out my “teacher mode” at you. But this is what I do. I teach students to write arguments. *shrugs* Let me know if you want more help.
April 18, 2007 at 2:36 am #563797Screw that….
I’d be sending some ugly letters to someone….even if I had to send one to Rosie herself…(whether she’s a part of it or not they’re using her name)
and if you already have a prior relationship with them all the more reason to say something….because if they want you to come back then they will do something to fix it…
it’s just good business to offer some other way to deal with it…instead of changing your plans for you…
I’d prolly be on the phone complaining to someone every 20 min until they fixed it….
April 18, 2007 at 2:41 am #563798Yeah frozen, Rosie is a big part of it. Here is our pic from the first cruise….
Its her wife and partner that is the head of this cruise company thingy. I have already written her directly. We shall see what happens at this point. But if they don’t offer anything…guess I will just swallow my anger and try and have a great time anyway.
April 18, 2007 at 2:43 am #563799well never hurts to make a noise….hopefully they’ll do something to make it better…
April 18, 2007 at 2:57 am #563800What a great picture!
I think your letter is pretty good but like Emerald said you should include what YOU think is fair compensation and see what they say. Or another alternative would be write a letter praising your past experiences to the sky and how you were so looking forward to sailing with them again. Then write how disappointed you are in the handling of the current situation. I have an aunt who uses this technique when she writes a letter like this – works every time.
As an aside – did you know you can now get married in Disney? I teased my sister about it. She and her wife have been married three times – once in a Dignity (Catholic Gay and Lesbian group) mass, once in Vermont and once in Boston! I told her she should go for 4 – once at Disney. I think she is trying to set a record for the most ceremonies with one person!
April 18, 2007 at 3:08 am #563801Oh yeah I saw that DDVM, looked amazing, touch pricy, but amazing. One day maybe. We got married on the Rosie cruise last time, but most of our family could not be there, just my partner’s aunt and her partner. So the next one has to be local….if and when that is.
Anyway as far as the cruise goes. I have looked over the one peice of paperwork I did have, and it does have small print about changeing ports, so I guess I am just ummm screwed. But I have decided nevermind…its just not worth the heartache. I am just going to suck it up and have a good time anyway.
So I guess it no longer matters what I do. I am going to have a great vacation no matter what. Thanks for the support guys. I feel better already.
April 18, 2007 at 7:05 am #563802Call Rosie. That is BS.
April 18, 2007 at 10:34 am #563803I’m coming in to this way late, but thought I would give my 2 cents anyway. I found a couple of articles on http://www.theroyalgazette.com to familiarize myself with the protest situation. I can’t say I blame Rosie and Co. for changing ports. I don’t think anybody should have to deal with that kind of prejudice and slander on their vacation (or anywhere). If Bermuda can’t guarantee you a safe and enjoyable visit, they don’t deserve your hard earned tourist dollars.
That said, I think you should be compensated somehow, regardless of the fine print of your contract. It would be a sign of good faith on their part and I’m sure they can afford it. If they tell you “tough luck”, then you know better for future trips and can plan accordingly.
Whatever happens, just go and have fun. I’m sure it’s very disappointing to have to make alternate plans, but I think it would be worse to deal with people shouting nasty things at you. Don’t let anything ruin your trip. Who knows when you’ll be able to take another vacation?
April 18, 2007 at 12:38 pm #563804Cause a muteny whippet! and demand you get your money back, that happened on the Oueen mary 2 when she bashed her props on a reef and the passengers couldn’t go to where they wanted to go. That caused hell and they got every penny back lol.
It does cost a bomb to get on the Queen Mary 2 in the first place though.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Queen_Mary_II_Einlaufen_Hamburg_Hafengeburtstag_2006_-2.jpg
April 18, 2007 at 12:59 pm #563805I’m so sorry whippet. 🙁 Yeah, Florida is great, but it is definately not Bermuda. And you are absolutely right about Disney — there’s no way that would be any fun for anybody on the cruise. There’s no question everyone should get a refund of some sort.
I think you’re being wonderfully nice about it though 🙂 A lot of people wouldn’t be, but you’re very reasonable and aren’t demanding anything but what you so deserve.
I hope everything turns out just how you want it!
April 18, 2007 at 6:29 pm #563806ddvm wrote:I would be so angry I would be breathing fire. Plus, is that even legal? You bought one cruise and they substituted another which is NOT a comparable value. Do you have any friends who are lawyers that you can ask? Maybe if you threaten legal action they will refund your money. Or give you a massive discount.
I vote we sic Nirvanacat on them!
That is so not fair.
ROFLMAO!!! More than happy to take care of the problem! 😈
