I guess I’m in the minority here. I actually like the little bugger. To me, It would be like breaking tradition if they went away. 😳
I bet if you made them a very limited LP piece (maybe signed), they’d sell like hot cakes! 😆
But I understand. Frustration and hassle takes the joy out of things. I would like the new piece, I’m sure. 🙂
July 28, 2010 at 2:38 pm #822049Mel, you can retire them, if you agree to sell me one that matches whatever new color family that comes out. lol! I’m in the minority here, I know…but I’ve always bought one to complete my families. I’m old and I resist change! 😈 Ok, not really…but I would miss them.

From their perspective, how many people (especially in today’s economy) are going to waltz in everyday to sink $300 on a dragon statue? It’s a lot easier to push a $50-ish one on the broke, uncertain, and gift-buyer………
Guess I’m trying to say that I would support discontinuing the hatcher, but only if/when a replacement at a similar price point is introduced.

Ditto. As much as I like the Hatcher, he’s not one one of my faves. Besides, he’s had a good run 😉 . I do think it’s important to have ‘inexpensive’ items available so those financially challenged folk who want a Windstone can actually have a chance to get one. I know most people can’t spend 200- 300 dollars on a sculpt (me being one of them most of the time 😳 ) I also like the idea of making a less complicated hatching dragon for the family. New sculpts ( especially the ‘under 50 dollar ranged’ ones) are always welcomed in my book  !July 29, 2010 at 3:15 pm #822052I’m also in the minority it appears. I actually like the little fellow. 😀 He’s not my favorite, but I do like him and have bought him in every color he comes in (though I am missing an amethyst and an emerald peacock to complete my army of hatchlings in colors that have been made available). Whether you decide to keep him or not, there does need to be a small alternative for those who would like a dragon, but can’t afford to plop $100-200 down on a piece. While I have been lucky on a few occasions with either receiving a Poad or a fledgling and one hatching empress, I know some of my hatchers I got for the reason that my parents couldn’t afford to buy anything beyond a hatchling or a fledgling for a present (nor would they when they have others to buy for as well – I share my birthday with my brother, so I don’t get a reprieve there either!).
I can understand that they cost and are more time consuming to produce for the amount of money gained from sales though.I would like to see them continue, even if it was on a limited basis through the online store in small batches. Allows for those who do enjoy them the opportunity to still buy them, but allows for another alternative that is quicker to paint that others who don’t like the hatchling might enjoy more.
July 29, 2010 at 11:05 pm #822053Hmm well, I only have a few because they’re in the colors I like. Actually, I think I only have two… peacock and black gold. I’d get the purple one, but no way I want to spend $60 on something so little, and that I don’t care for. It’s only the color I want, after all.
I don’t like the idea of charging a ton for something so little, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. If he could be replaced by something of similar size, but a price that fits the size, I’d agree with the retirement.July 30, 2010 at 12:47 am #822054I’m not fond of hatchers, period. It’s the egg thing… don’t really know why.
I only have one and he was a gift from my brother. I was never enticed by any other one.
A baby dragon to replace it would be marvelous, just not in an egg.
Read my books! Volume 1 and 2 of A Dragon Medley are available now.

July 30, 2010 at 2:06 am #822056I voted for B. I don’t love them, but I like them, and would like to see them available for hatcher fans, and those who want one of every sculpt in a color. My thought would be to make small batches for the online shop and charge however much extra is a fair P.I.T.A. fee.
I wouldn’t mind A. and it’s Melody’s call as painting itty-bitty hatchlings that don’t behave for an airbrush for 25 years has got to be tiresome. But the ideal scenario IMO would be to have a little paint-friendly baby dragon with wide distribution,( squeek* for dark peacock) and small numbers of pricey hatchers for the hatcher fans and hardcore collectors.
July 31, 2010 at 4:11 pm #822057I’ll have to say that I’m rather undecided on this one. I don’t particularly like the sculpt in itself, but since it’s relatively inexpensive I’ve picked them up in different colors to see if I like that color or not. I do like their faces better than the faces on the fledgies which always strike me as being kind of too cutesy. Call me crazy….
July 31, 2010 at 9:26 pm #822058I voted for B. I collect a lot of father, mother, hatching sets, so I feel my sets would be incomplete without them. However, I wouldn’t mind them being replaced as long as the new one would be in the old crocodilian-like style that the original family is sculpted in.
