St. Patty’s is the 17th. A lot of celebrations were held on the 15th so as not to conflict with Holy Week, but that does not change the date of the holiday.
Happy St. Patrick’s! The date is occasionally moved by church authorities when March 17 falls during Holy Week; this happened in 1940 when Saint Patrick’s Day was observed on 3 April in order to avoid it coinciding with Palm Sunday, and is happening again in 2008, being observed on 15 March. March 17 will not fall during Holy Week again until 2160.
This year, St. Pattys was held on the 15th. I personally dont care and only pointed it out because DM seemed to think it was today. Its not. The church changed it. But as I stated above… Happy St. Paddys. Late or not. 🙂
Church smurch. My calendar says today is St. Patrick’s Day.
March 17, 2008 at 6:24 pm #679955I had NEVER heard of them changing St. Pat’s day at least for all the 41 years I have been here in the world it has ALWAYS been on the 17th with no exceptions at least in the states. Maybe they cange it else where just like I heard many years ago that in Ireland they do not pinch you if you don’t wear green that was the American side of things.
The Irish for the most part are VERY religious so it would not surprise me at allThanks Emerald
March 17, 2008 at 6:25 pm #679956The bars will be happy…they’ll have people celebrating both days. 😆

Church smurch. My calendar says today is St. Patrick’s Day. 😆 Mine too, but they pinched people here on Saturday. Maybe cuz im in Germany. Any idea why Easter is not in April this year? Someone mentioned everything is messed up because of leap year, but I dont think that is so.
March 17, 2008 at 6:30 pm #679958I don’t know. Everything is just really early this year. It has to do with the full moon. Easter is the first Sunday after the third full moon of the year or something like that. Anyone know for sure?

I googled it:
By Tribune Reporter
Here’s some information on why Easter is so early this year.
Easter is always the first Sunday after the first full moon after the spring equinox (which is March 20). This dating of Easter is based on the lunar calendar that Hebrew people used to identify Passover, which is why it moves around on the Roman calendar.
Based on the above, Easter can actually be one day earlier (March 22) than it will be this year, but that is rare.
This year is the earliest Easter any of us will see for the rest of our lives. And only the most elderly (95 years and above) have ever seen it this early.
March 17, 2008 at 6:35 pm #679960Thanks, Ski. I knew it was something like that. That’s kind of cool, really. When we are old we can say, “When I was young, Easter used to come right after St. Patty’s Day.” 😆

😆 Yup! I wish I was still in Savannah. They have the best St. Paddys partys ever….that I have been to anyway… They even serve green beer. *Sigh* I miss the big celebrations. Its like a mini mardi gras.

March 17, 2008 at 8:05 pm #679966LOL, at the pinching!! I pinched my hubby and brother for not wearing green!! Zack changed though. I of course am wearing green, even green amber earring! Corned beef and cabbage is my favorite, and if I had it my way, I woulda eaten it on saturday too! But we celebrate on the 17th, no matter what the church says.

We’re having corned beef and cabbage for supper (it’s cooking now. It’s one of those all day things to cook) and then we’ll have green birthday cake because it’s my brother Edwards’ birthday (he the youngest of the six of us and all us kids wanted to name him ‘Patrick O’ Seanacy Marshall’ and our parents said NO!!!!!!!)
twindragonsmum 😀
