I’m not going to speculate. I’ll just wait and see.
May 1, 2013 at 12:04 am #896633I’d just like to point out that arguing about the price increase (as inevitable as it is) was not the point of this thread. I was simply asking for a heads up, and I believe I got a “no” as an answer.

We are just beginning to cast their little bodies! They are not going to be ready any time soon, and a “ball park” figure on price cannot be offered at this point.
May 1, 2013 at 12:26 am #896635I was planning to make this batch a Safari Supernatural candy corn magic mushroom batch , and that usually takes more time than a “Normal” colored batch.
Should I paint them like that? or:
Choices:
Normal : realistic horse colors
normal safari: normal wild animal colors
supernatural; hybrid wild animal colors
soft fantasy; normal animal markings with bright colors
candy corn
Poad bit; Supernatural + safari + magic mushroom + candy corn. With sparklesI would prefer natural horse colors or soft fantasy – normal horse markings (not other animal markings) with fantasy colors. Not a fan of the safari, supernatural or candy corn.
May 1, 2013 at 12:34 am #896636Myself I like more normal type colors. I really like the natural ones, and I liked the safari ones. I like the lichen/leaf ones too, but not the really funky ones. (I have the black with rainbow lichen one, and love it! But I was more ‘meh’ about the rest, and didnt’ like the really clashing ones, like orange and green leaf.)
That said, I also wouldn’t mind a candy-corn or extra-crazy batch, mixed up with a super natural or fantasy batch. I can see alot of trading going on if this was the case. It is less likely that I would get one I like, but I love trading too!

May 1, 2013 at 12:47 am #896638Youngs are about twice the cost of a baby uni in the same color, if you look at grulla and white. So I am going to guess (GUESS) that the new GB youngs will be no less than $260 each.
May 1, 2013 at 1:15 am #896640Just curious … in your calculations, what is your base price for the little pieces (baby unicorn, baby kirin, baby Poad, and so forth)? It must be very low if you have $200 for a lap and $300 for an emperor as part of a linear increase in price.
I would go by store price which are all under $100 and I’m going by store price for the larger pieces….I just can’t see paying $300+ for something much smaller than than the large pieces regardless of if they are handpainted or not…..
Hand painted by a certain artist does make a significant difference in the price of a piece. For example regular production make griffin $144. Astral Male griffin by Jennifer Miller $3500. Regular production Secret Keeper $1000, Ebay SK-most sold for over $2000, some sold for over $3000. Regular lap dragon is about $260(?) Labradorite Lap dragon by Jennifer Miller sold for over $5000 (If I remember correctly, Cinnamon Pearl Lap Dragon by Olimpia $600
People will pay more for an individually painted and signed piece, size doesn’t really matter. There are some baby orientals that sold for over $700, and they are not really bigger than the young unicorn. Resale value would play a part in competitive pricing for Windstone because the true value of something is what a buyer will pay for it.
I’d really love a candycorn type young, but I don’t know if my budget will allow me to have one. A lot of personal tragedy in my life over the past month has left me pretty tapped out, but I would not begrudge Windstone or the people who can afford one anything. Bringing more money into Windstone keeps them in business, so maybe I can get one from a potential later batch. I don’t think the current price point is fair to Windstone, and I would support a price increase…even one as high as $300.

Sun Dragon Koi #3May 1, 2013 at 1:22 am #896642To answer the original question on this thread – it seems safe to assume pricing between $260-$300 (final price likely to be determined by the batch type).
As these are not started, you probably have at least a month to save up.
This is based on the info from Pam/Susie above. 🙂

Is is bad I am almost excited my guess was close? LOL!
*pictures self on the Price is Right* What do you bid for this Young Unicorn?
Well, anyway, I remember when grab bag babies were $60 and are now $120 due to the market, the extra work, demand, etc. The Youngs were what? $130 so it’s easy to think they will be at least $260. I think $290-$300 is a good price to assume they will be around.
The positives are that hopefully they won’t sell out as fast, but I have no doubt, they WILL sell out.
Regardless tot he size of the sculpt I think $300 would be a reasonable to ask since they are technically OOAK pieces from Melody. *nods*

Let’s face it: artists need to eat and pay bills too. Artistic ability like Melody’s is not common (though the internet would certainly have us believe that fantastic artists are numerous, this is not true) and that should be reflected in the price of her work. I think $300 is a perfectly reasonable price! I can’t afford it, but I think it’s a pretty fair bet that these Youngs are probably going to sell out just as fast as any other grab bag run and I am looking forwards to the great time I’m going to have looking at the photos that people will post of their grabs. 🙂

May 1, 2013 at 7:36 am #896670Since yesterday I was surprised to see 50 new responses on here. When I suggested the idea of making more young unicorns (and Melody said she would) I was very excited but I only brought it up because:
A) I never had a chance to get one in the past and a lot of other newer people on here never had the chance either and could not afford to pay the secondary prices these were selling for online.
B) I thought the last batch of young unicorns was only around $150 or so for each one which is what I could afford. Anything over $200 would be too pricey for me. Does anyone recall how much they were in the last batch of young unicorns?
C) Natural coloured and slight fantasy young unicorns were painted in previous batches and I was really hoping to see more wild colours and patterns and candycorns to go with the colourful babies that came out before.
So I vote for: Safari Supernatural candy corn magic mushroom batch unicorns but I would hope they are under $200 so I along with others could actually afford them. For those who like the natural colours or can afford higher priced ones, why not just buy the ones from previous batches and give the rest of us who never got one a chance at the new batch? I am almost already disappointed I thought I would get a chance at finally getting one of these to now thinking I won’t be able to afford one.
Looking for rainbow or pink & teal grab bags!
May 1, 2013 at 3:16 pm #896680I thought I had all my opinions out, but I guess not! LOL
Several people mention that if the price goes over a certain point, they can’t afford to buy them. That’s fair – I’m in the same boat. 🙂
However, the counter argument, ultimately, is there is a point where Windstone cannot afford to _MAKE_ them.
If Melody could paint more production pieces that sold for the same price as the young unicorns OR could paint just as many ebay/special store items that would sell for MORE during the same time as she would be painting youngs – it doesn’t make sense for Windstone to paint a grab bag instead.
So, a grab bag baby unicorn sells for $130. A regular production baby sells for $40 I think. That’s 3.25x the price of a production unicorn.
A production young sells for $80. So, by the same math, a grab bag young would be around $260. This is also double the price of a grab bag baby which aligns with Pam’s guess as well.
SO – We’re still in the $260-$300 price range which is inline for prices charged for other products, fair to Windstone, and less than what a unicorn averages on ebay.
May 1, 2013 at 4:27 pm #896682Here’s some more math for you. 🙂
The total number of Forum members is now over 10,000. If 90 percent of these accounts are inactive, or people who hate unicorns, or not willing/able to pay the price charged … we still will have disappointed buyers for a batch of 90 Grab Bag young unicorns.
May 1, 2013 at 5:53 pm #896689My vote is for the Poad bit; Supernatural + safari + magic mushroom + candy corn. With sparkles. As for the price I know I have the time to start saving and/or selling some other stuff to save towards the GB batch. It would be my first young so I really hope you still do these. 🙂
